So Hoopla tells me I’m 50% of the way through oathbringer and also I know some spoilers (many spoilers) so aside from the best character in the entire series (Shallan) and the main character for this book (Dalinar), it is pretty fun for me that my two favorite characters so far are Moash and Elhokar. One is the moral North Star of this book so far (Moash) and the other is like a pitiful wet golden retriever who desperately wants to learn to roll over but is just flopping around on his back, which also makes me suspect of his actual desire to roll over because that isn’t a difficult thing to do (Elhokar). Incredible stuff. Very excited to see when I’m supposed to start hating Moash. Kinda doubting that will happen.

I can't get over Part 4 of Light Bringer being titled Brothers, and how it ultimately boils down to Cassius connecting and contrasting his two brothers on a deeply personal level.

Lysander, a brother lost, Darrow, a brother regained. one kills him for what he perceives to be the greater good, the other wishes nothing more than to have fought and died by his side when they still had that option. they're faced with the same loss, and Lysander moves past it to secure the solution to his problem (Eidmi), while Darrow would trade the solution to his problem (the ships and Moon Lords) for Cassius.

Lysander gave up his brother for the war. Darrow would give up the war for his brother.

if that doesn't declare loud and clear what they each stand for and who they've become, I don't know what does.

One thing I love about Red Rising is how often characters, but especially Darrow, just go “I do not want to be here, I do not want to fight, I do not want to break bones and feel blood on my hands. I want to be in peace with the people who love me. But to honor those people/keep them safe I’ll fight.”

Darrow as a protagonist is brutally honest about being scared and lost and sad. He’s a myth, he’s cultivated a reputation of a killer. But all he ever wanted was to be a father and a husband.
