Sirius glanced up when he realised Zara was speaking to him. “Oh, sure,” he said, standing up and walking towards here He took the books from her, leaving her arms free to grab her wand. “What are all these for?” he asked.

The stack of books in her arms was unnecessary but sometimes Zara loved doing things with her hands and not her wand. Admittedly it was a mistake and now the she had two arms holding the books she couldn’t reach into her pocket to grab her wand. “C-can you give me a hand? Er-wand more specifically?” she chuckled. Attempting to peer at the person sitting in the lounge chair.

dorcas was actually very eager. she had always enjoyed her times with sirius, and now that they were out of school it seemed like anything could happen. it’s a date, she thought. “seems we’re on the same page.” she giggled, having also loved chocolate. “well, i’ll be going then. i’ll see you later tonight.” she gave a smile, a little wave and turned her back to him as she went to walk back to mary’s house.

“Well if you weren’t on the same page about chocolate I couldn’t go,” he said seriously before smiling at her. “I’ll be there with way too much food for two people to eat,” he confirmed with a grin. Whatever tonight was, he was just glad to be spending some time with Dorcas.

“it’d be such a waste to keep you all to yourself.” she commented, moving to stand up. “it’s a date, and i say we shall do it tonight if you aren’t too busy.” dorcas declared, crossing her arms as she looked down at him. “i shall bake throughout the afternoon until you arrive! i’ll get everything all comfy.” 

“That’s true,” he agreed with a small nod. “Someone’s eager,” he teased, watching as she stood up. “But I can do tonight,” he added with a nod. Sirius shook his head, laughing lightly, “I don’t know if that’s really necessary, anything with chocolate will keep me happy.”

“A kid already?” She couldn’t help to blurt out, because even if she did like kids she didn’t know if she would have wanted them soon after getting married, though she also knew deep down her doubts came from thinking it may not be the best time to have kids. She cleared her throat  “Is being a target helping anyone?”

Of all the parts Sirius might have expected Amara to fix on it wasn’t that. “If my Mother had any say,” he replied with a shrug, glancing away. He didn’t think his mother should have any say, but in the scenario she probably would have some influence. “I don’t know but fighting against people who want to marginalize people because of their blood status is at least trying to help.”

dorcas couldn’t help the way her face heated up at his comment. sirius had always been dear to her heart. a laugh bubbled out of her and she said, “why, of course, sirius. i’m sure you have a wonderful time with you and your reflection. you and james could go on double dates if you brought mirrors!” listening to his request, she nodded. she would make sure to make him whatever it is he would like for the movie night. “then it’s a date.” she murmured, her smile soft.

“My reflection is an absolute dreamboat,” he joked before rolling his eyes. “But even I prefer hanging out with other people than my own reflection.” Most of the time anyway. In his lower moments he barely wanted to say hello to anyone else, but that was not what he was focusing on right now. “It’s a date,” he repeated, using the words without even thinking about the meaning behind them.

“One person does not. I only use one, which is why I’m offering another to you.” Her eyes narrowed slightly, then, after shrugging, she shook her head slowly. “Epsom salt is in the cabinets, then. Directions are on the back and don’t drip on the hardwood. I’m told they’re valuable or something.”

“That’s still an insane amount of baths to have,” he said teasingly with a shake of his head. “Duly noted,” he said with a grin. “Do you have fancy conditioner and stuff I can use too? Girls always have better stuff.”

Remus laughed loudly, the idea of being wholly nice to Sirius an endlessly humorous idea. The very basis of their friendship was in sarcasm and harmless taunting. Be nice? He must’ve lost his mind. “You are terrible with nice people. It’s like James around babies. You don’t know what to do so you just act like a massive dick until they’re not nice anymore.”

“Alright, hold up just a minute,” Sirius said, as though he was very put out by what Remus had said. But then he continued, “If they’re hot I sometimes flirt with them.” That said, sometimes being a dick worked as flirting.

Sirius Black was pretty well known for finding ways to blow off steam. These days he had a lot of problems to forget and plenty of ways to do so. One of the ways he occasionally liked to blow off steam was smoking, thought it was more just when the opportunity arose. Which it had today. It hadn’t really taken much for Daisy to convince him to smoke with her, and now they were sitting together passing a blunt between them. “Almost,” he agreed as he took the joint from her. He took a drag from it with his eyes closed, holding it for a moment before he exhaled slowly. “It definitely feels like there’s less problems,” he said, passing it back to her.

Daisy hated smoking alone. It made it harder to feel like she was connecting with the heartbeats of the universe when she was by herself. And if she did it alone too often, it made her feel like she had a problem, Tilden’s criticisms echoing in the back of her mind. But today was a good day, a universe day, because she had convinced Sirius Black to join her for the afternoon. And maybe the evening. It depended on how lost they got. She exhaled slowly and passed the gillyweed blunt over to him. “Doesn’t this make you feel like the world can be simple again, almost?” Maybe with enough wishes, it would be.

dorcas smile fell onto her lips so easy around sirius, and she couldn’t help the way she was charmed by him. “that sounds like a wonderful time.” she felt excited, which is something she hadn’t really felt in a while. a movie night was so simple, yet it would be such a good time. “i’ll make sure to bake you something special. do tell me what your favorite sugary snack is.” she held her hands under her chin as she looked at him all doe-eyed. “i’m sure with all you marauders around, mary picked up some thrilling. barely anything keeps you and your friend’s attentions!” she joked back, grinning ear to ear.

“Any time with you is wonderful,” Sirius said dramatically, his voice joking though he meant his words. These days it was getting harder and harder to find people to just be normal around, and finding that was wonderful in itself. “And of course any time with me is even more wonderful,” he added, with a firm nod before he grinned. “Mm.. I don’t know, maybe those fizzy jelly worm things. Y’know the muggle one?” he asked. He rolled his eyes when she looked at him with a doe-eyed gaze, but a smile played on his lips. “If a movie can’t keep our attention I think you should be blaming it and not us.”

“I mean some of that could have been avoided.” She said as usual avoiding acknowledge how bad things were for some, though she supposed if they just…didn’t stir anything no one should mess with them. But yes, she decided to focus on the fact that if he hadn’t left, his life would be much easier and his family wouldn’t hate him. “We all made choices..”

Sirius gave a humorless chuckle, shaking his head. “Yeah, I could have been fine. Probably working in The Ministry... married,” he gave her a pointed look, “maybe a kid.” It was a whole other life, one he so easily could have had.  “But I’d be watching the people I had spent my school years with being hunted down because of the families they were born into. I’m not okay with watching my classmates be targeted.” He refused to think that she thought that was okay.

“oh, sirius, i could never.” she says softly, sweetly. with him agreeing to her request, she felt a happiness spread throughout her chest. dorcas had missed her friends, and spending time with them. being around sirius had always been fun, and made her feel lighter in a way. “you could come over and we could go through the movies together.” she suggested, a smile on her face. “i’m sure mary has a some action packed films mixed in with the others.”

“As long as we get chinese to eat while we watch,” he urged with a grin. “I’ll bring chinese and you can get sweets to keep us going after we finish the food.” They were practically movie night essentials. “If she doesn’t I’ll have to reevaluate our friendship,” he joked.

Yes you are, I hope your staying out of trouble too.” Her eyes lit up as she smiled at times she once wished she could be as honest as he was with herself, it was a quality she admired in her cousin.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get sick of me soon enough,” he teased. He was much better at ignoring emotions and feelings, or making a joke out of them, then he was at actually acknowledging them. “Me? I’m never in trouble,” he said with a grin because they both knew it was far from the truth.

The corners of her mouth twitched up, but she didn’t respond to his correction. He was diligent, if nothing else, and arguing wouldn’t do anything but waste both of their time. “I have three you can soak in any time you want,” she informed him, but before he could reply, she shook her head. “I mean, not any time. Don’t wake me up at three in the morning to borrow my robe or something.”

“You have three baths?” he asked, turning towards her, his tone incredulous. “What on earth does one person need three baths for?” Sure, his family home had countless bathrooms and baths but he had never thought it was particularly necessary. “Too late,” he said, shaking his head, “You said anytime. Expect me at three tonight. I’ll try not to wake you up.”

“Are you kidding?” Remus gave Sirius an incredulous look, pursing his lips indignantly. “I’m lost without you.” Taking the bait, Remus nodded his head solemnly. “Yeah, my mates are concerned. They think I’m getting to into that degenerative lifestyle.”

“You better start being nicer to me then,” Sirius sighed, though he gave a cheeky grin to Remus afterwards. “You should listen to them. I imagine you have very sensible, careful friends.” He was pretty sure that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“Yeah I guess.” She said not really wanting to go there at least not deeply so she shrugged “So, how has been life lately?” She asked trying to change the subject to anything really, it had been a while since she saw him properly after all.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at her, unable to help the sarcasm in his next words. “Oh yeah, life’s been great. All of my friends and myself are being targeted so badly that some of them refuse to leave their houses. Most of my family wants me dead and the few members that don’t are also being targeted. Things are great.”
