ooooh i kinda wanna hear what you think lol! there's enough to work with from canon that I'm happy to say I don't write him ooc. it's possible for him to have a female love interest and retain his big boss obsession if that's what you mean! i can't really think of anything else that might change? the core of him remains perfectly intact when I write. I know him well!
Oh man, what's OOC or not (and how much it should matter) is a whole other very complicated question I've been wanting to tackle forever but I don't think I'd be able to lol
It's not even about Big Boss. Maybe Ocelot would go have a one-night stand once in a while to blow off steam. I feel like he probs wouldn't though, his job takes way too much place in his life, I think he'd want to avoid distractions as much as possible.
What I find OOC, is Ocelot as anything else than very gay. I've seen some arguments against that, but I didn't find the evidence compelling enough to change my mind, and frankly, I really don't care to. The only exceptions I could agree to for narrative purposes would be say a first time with a woman that would make him realize that nah, not for him, or him and EVA being very drunk, very sad and missing Snake enough to attempt (and fail) to do it and that's it.

I write x reader because it's easier for me to identify with since my oc is basically me. you'd be surprised how many ocelot x fem!readers there are. I share drafts from when the fic is still in second person because it's rare to see. We're out here making our own food because we're starving! xD
See other ask, but yeah, I understand it in that way. The problem after that is that I also don't get why people read xreader since it's clearly written with the writer's OC in mind, and from what I've seen, they're very often female, which will automatically exclude a lot of readers. And not only that, but since the reader is meant to identify with the OC, how annoying is it when the character behaves in ways that the reader wouldn't? Doesn't that ruin immersion? I'm guessing people who read xreader either a) don't care b) see the OC as an actual character and not a blank space in which to insert themselves.
But yeah. I'm pro making your own fun in fandom. It just feels extremely counterintuitive for me lol

x reader can be a really good exercise in character writing like writing fic in general is. as someone who funnily enough actually does write ocelot x reader for me it's a way to practice writing my oc by using her as a self insert then tweaking her interactions to develop her as a character. I don't have to change anything about ocelot, I can write him easily but with my oc I need to understand how she fits into the mgs universe and think about how they would interact and her role in his life
Of course, all writing is good writing. And on an intellectual level I get why people have OCs and self insert but it feels so alien to me. The only OCs I've had were for D&D games and random NPCs in writing. They never feel as cool to me as the characters that already exist.
If you write xreader as romantic (and xreader is automatically romantic, right?) I have to disagree about not having to change anything about Ocelot if your OC is female, but I'm not gonna go back to that debate XD

I for one reallyyyy hope they fix Ocelot's face in delta. I know you were joking but I have seen some people legitimately thinking he wears make up because of the PS2 graphics. Hopefully with modern graphics he'll look the way he's supposed to. I can't wait to see my kitty!!!
lol yeah the characters' eyes have that dark line around their eyes and it DOES look like they're wearing make up, it really makes their eyes pop. Ocelot has dem long eyelashes on top of that too. He'd look amazing with legit eyeliner though, if anyone could pull it off it'd be him :P
But yeah I wasn't a fan of the Boss' new model, so I'm kinda afraid for Ocelot. Not sure if they'll go for a younger MGSV adaptation, reuse the Pachinko model or go for something else entirely. If they choose to reuse a model, I think I'd rather they go with the Pachinko one and make him look a widdle bit younger.
They absolutely need to nail the fox eyes at the very least or else he'll look wrong.

I do understand x reader, some of those protagonists let a good catch get away, or at least a funky little dude
What still alludes me even as a queer man, is revolver ocelot x reader
Like the people he seems legitimately attracted to besides big boss could be counted on one hand (and I'm being really generous)
From what I've seen of the xreader genre, for the most part it seems to be a mostly straight thing? Is there even Ocelotxreader out there? Don't think I came across it, or if I did I probably blocked the tag (and from my memory). But yeah, xreader seems very... overindulgent to me? To the point where it renders the character (or person, I know there's a lot of real people xreader out there) so OOC they might as well be another person entirely, so what's the point in the end?
(I say I don't understand the genre, I do, I just really don't relate to it. I don't interact with fiction like that at all, I don't want to be a part of it in any way. I also don't understand people who recreate themselves in RPG games. Fiction for me is a way to forget reality and a chance to be someone else. More power to y'all who can and want to do that, but I just don't get it lol)
