the reason i will be obsessed with hotd 1.01-1.05 and continue rewriting it endlessly forever is the exact tension between how refreshingly it resists certain personally alienating pieties and how hard the fandom seeks to overwrite what is on screen with exactly those pieties. to wit the reason rhaenyra is so recognizable and heartbreaking to me is because the harm she is subject to is someone taking advantage of her genuine sexual desire for him, which counters the dominant narrative that teenage girls are basically sexless, or are only ever desiring subjects toward age appropriate objects, and any adult who seeks to prey on them must bamboozle them and convince them (falsely) that they want it. which is just counter to much actual experience, where teenagers can absolutely want to have sex with adults and like adults still shouldn’t oblige them. teenagers can consent and consent can be meaningless when determining the morality or ethics of a situation. which is harder for people in many ways. but fandom is like no, miss dragon incest was never horny for her uncle, he just brainwashed her into thinking that. which like. no. you just WANT that to be it because the alternative makes you uncomfortable. the show itself is very clear.
