Thank you to the people who put up with me and all of my craziness. Thank you for the laughter, for wiping my tears, all the hugs, and for memories. The ones we’ve made, the ones we plan on making, and the ones we won’t plan on. I couldn’t do this without you. You each hold a special place in my heart.

The friend I was born with; Tyresse.
Some people say we look alike, some people say we don’t. All I know is we shared a home for nine months. My twin brother Tyresse and I were born on July 9th, 1999. This is one of the many Aaron carter songs he and I used to jam out to during the long car rides going to who knows where. We would always ask, “Where are we going?” The answer always came out to be, “Just follow!” So, we did.

My first friend; Claudia.
Bright and early every morning until 8:30 am when the morning bell rang. This is the song that would play as I walked in to Mrs. Bubb’s second grade class. The same class where I met my very first best friend. Claudia.
I didn’t know it at the time, but we came from two different worlds. Nonetheless, I will always remember our secret meetings under the yellow slide, her long black pig tales, and pink overalls.

My forever friend; Crystal.
The song for which we left it all on the stage. It was our senior year in the talent show. Our very last performance. We had been Stingettes for 3 years now. Just as long as we had been friends. Only difference was while we weren’t going to be on this high school dance team forever. We were going to be in this friendship forever. Crystal and I met through the team. But it was like we had known each other since the sandbox. Anytime we hear this song, its like we’re back on the stage, we go full Beyonce mode.

A pause/play friend; Cheyenne.
We both go to GSU, but I go to the real one. A joke that I will always make when I see her. Cheyenne and I became friends in high school. Like most people, college separated us. The good news is that whenever I see her it’s like nothing has changed. We can always pick back up right where we left off. I’ll never forget hearing this song in drama class and always knowing that Cheyenne was about to turn up.

So this is exactly how Cheyenne would look. I get all my moves from her now.

For a performance in our drama class, we played twins from our parallel universes. I say we pulled it off well.

The unexpected friend; Nadia.
A friend of a friend. I always knew of Nadia, but I didn’t know Nadia. Next thing I know I found myself being comforted by her during tough times.
Nadia is a friend that has always been there for me. She’s the friend that allowed me to be myself from the jump and I am a handful, but I know she loves me for it. No matter what I know I can count on her. And when the time comes she knows she can count on me. Nadia loves R&B and this song she most recently introduced me to and it sounds just like her, if that makes sense.

The friend I fell in love with; Avondre.
I had no idea that, when I walked in to Coach Hardages class sophomore year. That the boy in the matching tank top and shorts outfit, would turn out to be the friend that would become my all in one. The one that, as this crazy thing called life continues, I’d want by my side for the whole ride. Neither of us realized it till senior year, but only because of what I describe as a “right person, wrong time” kind of situation. Avondre is not only my boyfriend, he’s my best friend. Hearing this song reminds me of the car ride home on one of our first dates. He took my hand and sung to me like he wrote it. That was the moment this became our song.

My Forced friend; Penny
We hate each other. I take her stuff. She tells on me. We argue, then give the silent treatment but, she’s my sister, Penny.
I confide in her, vent to her. We gossip. She does my hair and we talk about boys. We go shopping and eat, a lot. As we grow older we experience more and understand each other better. I am no longer the brat sister and she is no longer the meany head. She’s the friend I can’t get rid of, nor do I want to. Penny and I learned a dance routine to Plain Jane. Anytime we go out and hear the song she always pulls on me and says, “Omg, we gotta do the dance!”
