SPECTROMETER- DESCRIPTION & TYPES
A Spectrometer is an instrument which studies the light spectrum. All substances have atoms and molecules which are known to man, offering a different spectrum. Examining the spectrum given off by various items and substances through which the item is developed can be easily determined. 
There consist three main types of spectrometers
Infrared Spectrometers,
Visible Spectrometers,
Ultraviolet Spectrometers,
Laser Spectrometers,
These spectrometers are used for measuring their respective spectras. 
FUNCTIONS OF A SPECTROMETER
The basic function of any Spectrometer instrument is to consume light and then further break it into its spectral components, digitizing the signal as a wavelength function and finally displaying it on the computer. 
The initial step involves light which is directed with a fiber optic cable in this instrument through an entrance slit being a narrow aperture.
The slit portrays the light as soon as it enters the spectrometer instrument. Furthermore, the light which is divergent is collimated through a concave mirror being directed onto a grating. Following this, the grating diffuses the light’s spectral components at slightly varying angles.
At the end, the light focuses its attention through another concave mirror, which is further imaged onto the detector.
Therefore, all these key functions can be performed simultaneously through a concave holographic grating.

Examining dissolved oxygen content in marine ecosystems and fresh waters
Acknowledging knowledge on the spectral emission lines belonging to distant galaxies
Simplification of proteins
