"Essential to every aspect of a church building is beauty…Because the church building is a reflection of God, Himself, Who is utterly beautiful… The experience of truly sacred architecture in this world should be a foretaste of the beauty we hope to experience in the life to come.” - Fr. David Friel
"The compelling effect of a traditional church is to say to the believer, you are in Heaven now." - Msgr. Charles Pope

Hi there, Father. I have a question about the Rosary. Praying the Rosary is usually a struggle for me because most of the time I find myself saying the words without really praying the meaning behind them, finding my mind wandering when I should be focusing on the prayers themselves or even that the words keep falling out of my head and I keep losing my place even though I've known the prayers for years. Should I keep trying, or should I stick to other forms of prayer?
Hello,
There is nothing wrong with “messing up” the Rosary. Losing your place, not paying attention to the meaning of words, getting distracted, and a wandering mind are all part of prayer life in general.
The only way you could commit a sin while praying the Rosary is to be mad at God or the Virgin Mary and say the words with a mean or sarcastic attitude. Otherwise, the Blessed Virgin has herself revealed on many occasions how pleased and happy she is with the Rosary.
So, please, keep saying it. And don’t worry. Don’t start doing parts of the Rosary over as if you have to “make it up” to Mary for dropping the ball. Seriously, don’t get caught up in your “Rosary mistakes” because they don’t matter to Mary. She is just happy that you are trying to meditate on the life of her Son and on her life as well.
The Rosary is an instrument of calm, meditation, contemplation, and peace. That is what Our Lady wants. Peace for our hearts. The peace of Jesus. But too often, we get scrupulous with how we are supposed to do the Rosary correctly and then it becomes the opposite of what Mary wants—the Rosary becomes a cause for anxiety, worry, and frustration.
God bless and take care, Fr. Angel
