Mid Year Book Freakout Book Tag
I can’t believe that we are halfway through 2020 already. Here is a look back on the first half of 2020. My reading for the first half of the year was amazing. I read 86 books. That is the most that i have ever read in that period of time. it was because of the lockdown that I read so much. My goal for 2020 is to read 100 books. I think that it is definitely possible to read 14 more books.
I did not come up with this book tag and  I’m not sure who created this book tag. Credit to whoever come up this book tag. If you know who did can you leave a comment so i can give them credit
1. Best book of 2020 so far
The best book that i have read so far this year is Chain of Gold by Cassandra Claire. I wish that Chain of Iron was out now. It was so hard to choose just one book. I’ve read a lot of good books in the first half of 2020.
2. Best sequel of 2020 so far
For this challenge I was going to choose Lord of Shadows but that book made me cry so much, so i’m going to use Lord of Shadows for a book that made you cry. I was thinking about what other sequel that I have read and loved. And that was Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Claire. I loved that book so much. I’m so mad at myself for DNFing it, why did I do that?! It was so good. I actually really need to finish Clockwork Princess but i’m scared to.
3.  A new release that you haven’t read yet, but want to
A new release that i really want to read is you should see me in a crown by Leah Johnson. I’ve wanted to read it since I heard that it had a f/f romance in it.
I’ve actually started the audiobook the other day. The physical book is really expensive, it’s $21 for the paperback. I’m not paying that much for a paperback. That’s why I haven't read it.
4. Most anticipated book for the second half of the year
my most anticipated book is Cinderella is Dead. i know that it is out around the world but for some reason it doesn't come out until 1st September in Australia. So i’m going to count it. I wish that we got the same release date as America.
5. Most disappointed
The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper was such a disappointment. I was really excited to love this but I didn't. I gave it ☆☆☆/5 stars. I really didn't like the main character. I wasn’t really into the romance. I love this cover so much.
6.  Biggest surprise
To all the boys I’ve loved before by Janny Han really surprised me. When i first read this in 2018 I didn’t love it. I was in a rush to read it because i wanted to finish the book before i watched the movie and it came out that day. That definitely took away from my enjoyment of it.
I listened to the audio book and I loved it so much. I also finished the series as well.
7. New favourite author
Why did I wait until now to read Rick Riordan?! I love his books so much. Percy Jackson was so good. I love all of the mythology. I’m definitely going to be reading the rest of his books.
8. New favourite fictional crush
I think that my new fictional crushes are Mathew Fairchild and Cordelia Carstairs from Chain of Gold. I love them both so much.
9. New favourite character
My new favourite characters are the main cast from chain of gold. I can’t choose just one. I love them all so much.
10. Book that made you cry
A book that made me cry was Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Claire . The ending of that book. I’m so happy that i could read Queen of Air and Darkness straight away, idk if i could have waited any longer.
11. Book that made you happy
Heartstopper Volume 3 by Alice Olsman made me very happy. I love the heartstopper graphic novels so much. Volume 3 was so good, there were so many cute moments between Nick and Charle.
12. Most beautiful book that you have brought this year
In my opinion Chasing the Shadows by Maria V. Snyder is the most beautiful book that i have brought this year. I love the galaxy on the cover. I love books with stars and galaxies on them.
Tumblr media
13. What books you need to read by the end of the year
There are a lot of books that I would love to read by the end of the year. Some of these are:
Heroes of Olympus Rick Riordan
finish the mortal instruments  by Cassandra Claire
Finish clockwork princess by Cassandra Claire
Clap when you land by Elizabeth Acevedo
The falling in love montage by Ciara Smyth
These are just a few books that I would love to finish by the end of 2020.
I hope that you enjoyed this book tag and come back for more.

Recent reads #1
Here are all the books that I have read in 2020, I'm going to be writing mini reviews on them. There will be 10 books in this recent reads blog post. The books that I'm going to be talking about in the post are some of the books that I read all the way back in January. I'm sorry if I don’t say a lot about them since it has been awhile since I read these books.
The Haunting of hill house by Shirley Jackson
Synopsis
A professor sends out invitations out to several people to ask them if they would stay at “Hill House” the most “haunted house” in America for the summer. Theoadora and Eleanor both get inventions  from Dr Mongague. Luke also goes because he is the heir to Hill House.
They all end up staying at Hill house for most of the summer.
My thoughts
☆☆/5 stars
This is one of the times where I liked the tv show more than the book. I read the book because I love the tv show a lot. The tv show is one of my all-time favourite shows. It’s so complex. It deals with a lot of important themes, such as grief. It has a dual timeline which is so good, it adds a lot to the story. Where the book is only one time. The tv show took the book and made it so much better.
I was very disappointed by the book. I thought that it was going to be similar to the book. I was very wrong. I was bored throughout most of the book. I was told that this is a horror book and that it was very scary. It was not, the scariest this in the book was the doors closing. Not much happened either.
All I can say is to just watch the Netflix show. It is actually scary. It gave me nightmares.
Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian
Synopsis
Kat and Lillia were best friends but they drifted away until Mary came back to Jar Island. They all want revenge, so they all come back together.
My Thoughts
☆☆☆/5 stars
Burn for Burn was a very entainating read, I finished the audio book in a day.
It was a very stereotypical high school story. I felt kinda immature, the way the characters acted at times. I did get all of the POV confusing sometimes. I didn’t know who’s POV I was reading sometimes. The girls sound very similar to each other, I wish that their voices were different. Maybe only 2 would have been better.
I definitely prefer To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han to this.
With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo
Synopsis
Emoni is a single teenage mother who has a passion for cooking. Her life’s dream is to be a professional chef, but it’s hard when she has a child.
Her school is offering a culinary class this school year. Through this class Emoni gets to take a once in a lifetime trip to Spain to learn alongside some of the world’s most amazing chefs.
My Thoughts
☆☆☆☆/5 stars
After two kinda disappointing books i finally read a book that i fell in love with. This book was amazing. I love Emoni, she is such a good character. I also love her child, who I have forgotten her name.
I love Elizabeth Acevedo’s writing style a lot, it’s so good. I also love her other book The Poet x also (i will talk about it in a later recent reads). She is one of my new favorite authors now. I can’t wait to read Clap When You Land. Her books are so amazing.
The Selection by Kiera Cass
Synopsis
The bachelor meets the royal family.
America is ready to marry Aspen but the selection might have other plans for her. She only participates because her family needs her to but this is an opportunity of a lifetime. To live like royalty even if it's only for a little bit.
My Thoughts
☆☆☆☆/5 stars
This was a reread for me. I first read it at the end of 2015. From what I remember, I really liked it. Though I did dnf The Elite.
This reread I loved a lot more. It was such an entanting and light read.
I ship Maxson and America so much, they are so cute together. I love the first time that they interact with each other. It’s one of my favorite moments in the book. I really liked that they started off as friends and then slowly started to have feelings for each other. I think that their friendship is really underrated, everyone focuses on their romance.
I hate Aspen so much. I really don’t like the way that he treats America.
The Near Witch by V.E Schwab
Synopsis
The near witch is just a legend, or is it?
One day everything changes when a stranger comes to town when there hasn't been a stranger in town in years.
The near witch might not be a legend after all.
My Thoughts
☆☆/5 stars
Last year I read City of Ghosts and Tunnel of Bones by V.E Schwab, I loved these middle grades so much. So I wanted to read some more V.E Schwab books. I thought about reading Shades of Magic but i don’t really like high fantasy and this was available to borrow from my library, so i did it.
I was very disappointed. I do understand that this was her first published book but still.
Not a lot happened, I was very bored while reading it. I thought that it was going to be this really spooky fantasy book but it just wasn’t that.
In the future I would definitely want to read more books by her. I would love to read her book about villains, that seems really interesting.
I hope that you enjoyed this blog post and that you come back for more.
