Thesis Concept Idea
For my senior thesis, I am planning on hand-drawing or painting a series of posters for original hypothetical movies. This is still an early/rough idea however I am excited to work with this concept because I want to combine my love of creating physical pieces through drawing and painting with the technical skills and knowledge I have gained about advertising design and how to captivate viewers attention with your advertisemnets. I plan on crafting these posters by hand to look as authentic as possible. I would like to also explore different genres for each poster, including a horror movie, a children's movie, and a science fiction movie, however I might decide on different genres when I bein crafting the posters.

Here are some examples of some movie posters I love and I hope to create my posters to look as professional and authentic as these.

Senior Thesis
For my senior thesis, I am thinking of either creating a series of hand drawn portraits with charcoal and pastels or branding for a company. I am not completely sure yet of which direction I want to go. This is just a very vague idea. I'm not sure where to start.

What role does fashion play in Hip Hop visual culture?
Fashion plays a significant role in Hip Hop visual culture, acting as a form of self-expression and identity. Artists like Run-D.M.C. wearing Adidas, the popularity of streetwear brands such as Supreme, and the influence of figures like Virgil Abloh have made fashion an integral part of Hip Hop’s visual identity. The style reflects the rebellious, bold, and unique ethos of the culture, often using logos, colors, and trends to communicate social status or affiliations.

Music videos have been a major platform for showcasing Hip Hop's visual culture. In the 1980s and 1990s, artists like Run-D.M.C. and Tupac Shakur used music videos to establish an iconic image and convey messages about life in urban environments, politics, and personal identity. My Favorite Dance
One of my favorite hip-hop/Black dances is The Cupid Shuffle. I love line dances because they unify everyone in the room to start doing the same moves and having a good time together. This song has a special place in my heart as well because this was the theme song at my elementary school and we used to all do the dance together. This song and dance brings back memories and it withstands time as it's a song still played at cookouts and events today!

Favorite MC
One of my favorite MCs of all time is Lauryn Hill. I love her flow and how she brought a different vibe to The Fugees by the way she raps on the beat. My favorite work of hers however is her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. This album speaks to me and really has carried me through hard times. I love how some of her songs are slower and more melodic while others are quicker paced.

What is the difference between an MC and a rapper?
I believe the difference between an MC and a rapper is that it takes much more knowledge lyrically, musically, and culturally to consider yourself an MC, whereas anyone who is able to speak on top of a beat may consider themself a rapper. An MC is a performer who can control the audience and tell complex stories in rhythm and rhyme. MCs are known for their wordplay, lyricism, and use of different rhythms and concepts.Rappers write and polish their lyrics before delivering them in raps. Rappers are more likely to focus on getting the crowd going and making them bounce.

Hip Hop and Health?
Many have speculated that hip-hop music nowadays has perpetuated negative stereotypes about the Black community and has influenced it negatively in regards to the drug crisis, gang and gun violence rates, and the misogynistic rhetoric which is spewed through lyrics. Personally, I do feel that hip hop music has a huge influence on the Black community as hip hop is representative of the black community and vice versa. I feel that more positivity and encouragement should be expressed through our mainstream music in order to foster better communities and environments as opposed to influencing dangerous lifestyles.

Hip-Hop and Comics
Reading this article, I learned a lot about the ties between hip-hop and comic books/superheroes. I was first introduced to this concept through the artist MF DOOM who famously alludes to himself as a hero in his music through his intros, outros and lyrics of his songs, but reading this article made me realize how much more common this concept is in hip hop. I feel that the concept of an artist portraying themself as larger than life as a hero ties into the concept of signifying as the artists are in a way bragging about themselves and talking themselves up by comparing themselves to fictional heroes who save the day or save society. Creating this type of persona for yourself as an artist is also a way to make yourself stand out from other artists in a way that may connect you to fans who have somilar interests as you or simply just showcase your own personality visually or by alluding to visual concepts.

What is Signifyin(g)?
In hip-hop, artists will use a strategy deeply embedded in African American culture known as signifyin(g) to create wordplay by utilizing metaphors, innuendos, and allusion. This tactic is commonly used by artists to add depth to hip-hop music by creating lyrics that have multilayered meanings. Signifyin(g) in Black Culture and hip-hop is manifested in many ways, including basting about one's own wealth or success and insulting or mocking other in the form of roasts. One signifiyin artist that is known for his lyricism is Kendrick Lamar. Many regard Kendrick as a lyrical genius as his lyrics often have many double or triple entendres and can be viewed from many different perspectives. Kendrick is able to create intertextuality by referencing other artists, songs, or pop culture references in sly ways to add depth to his music.

HH2M: 1B
I feel that this song, "Luchini AKA This is It" by Camp Lo, truly gives the vibe of old school hip-hop with a hint of a new school vibe as well due to the music sample in the background alongside the lyricism. The lyrics of this song speak to Black culture and the style of rapping give the song an older feeling.
