Some aspects to Paranormal movies:
Paranormal horror is closely related to the demonic subgenre in that it focuses on characters who aren’t living beings. Spirits and ghosts spook viewers and create fear without a physical presence on screen. Often, furniture moves without anyone touching it or a chill passes through the air suddenly. Those are elements of paranormal activity that can be from a demon spirit, supernatural power or ghost. Additional movies from the paranormal genre are: Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring, The Amityville Horror, The Omen, Carrie, and Poltergeist.
Demonic Possession is often called Supernatural horror since it plays into the unknown. Demons represent evil in many forms, including mythical, religious, and supernatural. One of the most demonic movies of all time is the 1973 movie, The Exorcist. Pazuzu, the main demon, is never actually mentioned in the movie, but is arguably the best-known demon of today’s horror movies.
Supernatural horror combines jump-scares, dread-induced tension, and sorrowful drama. Also, the imagery is potent in these movies, and the sound design is ear-piercing.
An example of a psychological supernatural horror movie is What Lies Beneath from the year 2000. This movie stars Michelle Pfeiffer and involves a lot of unexplainable, supernatural incidents taking place in their home. Sometimes supernatural entities take control of people, as happened in the movie, Smile, starring Sosie Bacon, from 2022, in which Rose, the main character who works in a hospital and witnessed one of her patients commit suicide, then finds herself cursed by a supernatural entity. This entity, once it takes over the person, forces them to complete horrific acts, all while smiling. Supernatural horror lies at the heart of horror itself. The idea that there might be other realities out there is a terrifying idea for many people. It has been part of human culture for thousands of years. Many religions involve the existence of a monstrous entity such as Satan. Vampires are another supernatural creature that are popular in horror movies. Ghost stories, stories about witches, and stories about demons all involve supernatural elements. Brad Anderson's Session 9 from 2001 was a small scale supernatural ghost story. that had psychological thriller elements. The setting was a huge abandoned mental asylum founded in the 1870s. The plot involves some sort of creepy spirit who haunts the asylum. Many supernatural films involve different types of hauntings. A good example of this is in The Awakening. Another ghost story is The Woman in black from 2012 and this involves a lot of superstition. Crimson Peak is yet another very popular supernatural ghost story which has some of the most visually gruesome ghosts ever put on the screen that will put chills down your spine. A particularly scary ghost story is lights out from 2016 which has a deadly ghost who hates light and attacks her victims in the dark. In conclusion, supernatural horror has produced a wide variety of compelling movies, even for those who have serious doubts about the supernatural. Some of the most important movies in horror history involve paranormal or supernatural aspects.
