Going through the bmp files and fiddling around with them even though I'm obviously,,, not very good at it. But it's fun!

Okay, so I got the end result based on this tutorial, but I don't,, fully understand where I went wrong when trying yesterday, which is a little bothersome (or maybe I was just too tired). And also I somehow fudged the flipflops... which I think is me forgetting how to edit images correctly (currently using FireAlpaca because I completely forgot everything I learned on GIMP). Anyway, flipflop bottoms I'm sure are because I messed up the alpha and the weird neckline/straps/robin egg blue in image 2 is I was too lazy to clean things up with the texture. Obvious clipping because tutorial suggested a flare skirt, but the fiddling around I did in milkshape turned out pretty okay! I thought it would make the back of the knee distorted.

Because it's called texture, silly.
Highly likely that I got lost in the sauce somewhere and skipped a step, but why didn't my recolour show up,,,,

Followed the part 3 tutorial. I knew there was no way to salvage since I exported to the bmp itself instead of,,, creating sequential gimp save, so I had fiddled a bit with the neckline before fully giving up.
I think I understand a bit now, but I also didn't get the pattern by the dress hem. CC less sims scare me so I didn't check regular gameplay (I should have,,, but twas lazy).
Saving a new pattern for 2024 GIMP is,,, unnecessarily hard,,,, I dont think I did it right because it doesn't really show up as a pattern,,, Tutorial: https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=1361183

FINALLY.
For future reference, the only thing I did differently this time was to ensure that I extracted from the gmdc, gmnd, cres and shpe from double clicking the resourcename from the finder results, selecting the resource tree first and doubleclicking the resourcename again and then extracting then whereas all previous attempts I was going directly to the resource list for extracting when it was still set to all compressed (or something like that, idk). https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=142305
Once again baffled where I went wrong in the last part of the beginning body mesh tutorial (and here I thought the milkshape part was easy,,,,)

Finally bit the bullet and started playing Sims 2
(after years of holding on to Sims 3) and it's quite interesting. Trying to make a 20 year old game function smoothly in the current year is an absolute ride (shoutout to r/sims2help for documenting and compiling all that) because I'm fully convinced that any minor irritant presented by the game has a fix out there already and I just have to dig deeper into the internet and follow rabbithole links until I find what I'm looking for.
But now I want to play around with making CC because I can't find one specific thing I'd like to have in my CAS and the amount of tabs I've opened just to get simPE to work as mentioned in a tutorial from 2006 and to look for a package file is hilarious (twenty, for one problem).
I'm starting to believe that the setting up the game to be optimized with the PC, digging for CC and mods, going through x-amount of pages of lovingly made documentation from such a passionate community is part of the Sims franchise. Would the amount of googling and double checking forums and updating graphical details (I spent the other day combing through the internet for default replacements I liked until my eyes hurt - and even then I wasn't really happy with all that I got and I only finished toddler and children clothing) have been better spent actually just playing the game itself? Probably. Am I enjoying the digging and fiddling and internet swimming until I find what I need? Well, absolutely yes sksksdjskfj. Plus it's just a reminder of how much bloody love and work people have poured into these games as a community.
Like I could open up a different game from my Steam Library, spend four hours playing it, and go about my day but I dont find that fun. /genuine
#maybe one day I'll be interested in playing Sims 4#but i have the base game and some expansions and I think I'm not the target audience for it.#ts2#it's in the details#for the record I also love setting up mods for Stardew and troubleshooting when I get an error#but that's bafflingly easy compared to this
