Any plans to reboot the start of the rp yet as it is now the new year?

Hello! :)

YES. So, long story very short, life got in the way between losing family members and new job at my work. 

However, now that it is the new year, we plan to REVAMP this rp, with a new title, as next!gen with beloved characters such as Albus Severus Potter and more. This should be sometime late March. Hopefully earlier! Keep on the look out. It will be very different, but ultimately, the same purpose of a next!gen #harypotterrp with older characters and the #triwizardtournament - but with a twist. It will be called Altera Maximum. 

Bonus points if you know the origin of the title!

Growing up was something of a difficulty for Benjamin. His father was a Pureblood – descendent from the Nott family – and emphasized the need for the young boy to learn magic when Benjamin first started showing his abilities at a young age. His mother was a Half-Blood, raised by a Muggle-born mother herself. Thus, she pleaded with her husband frequently that Benjamin needed the chance at a normal life without magic or the wizarding world. Especially since her own mother died in a tragic accident due to the aftermath of a battle from the first wizarding war. She wanted to give her son another option – knowing that a storm was coming. She saw how dangerous it was and didn’t want her only child growing up in such a dangerous place – and had another life to escape to if need be. Often, their screams from their fights shook the house, sending Benjamin into tears as he tried to cover his ears to block out the world. Drown it with his own thoughts and dreams. All while hiding in the back of the broom closet. Later, Benjamin learned that his father manipulated him many times. The Nott family was keen on memory charms and influence – making impressions and dictating many decisions often by corrupt ways. Out of guilt from thinking he was causing his parents fight, Benjamin often hid away or sometimes even ran. But one day, he didn’t have to. His father, suitcases in hand, left with another woman while his mother was left crying. Out of spite, Benjamin took his mother’s last name, protecting her as the new war began.

Raising him as a single parent, Benjamin’s mother moved them to a two-bedroom house right on the shore-line of Weymouth, Dorset in England. It was away from the center of the war, but another waged at home. His mother was in a drunken state most of the time, leaving the boy to write to himself, feeling lost in the world. She even took him out of Hogwarts during his fourth year – fearing the war would take her precious boy away. He went to a Muggle boarding school but missed the halls and corridors of Hogwarts. His home. Afterall, there, he thrived academically, particularly in potions. He liked to tinker with them, making them better. And in charms, he did the same. His journal was filled with ideas and potential inventions. Even so, Benjamin still practiced magic, eager to return once the war was over.

Now that the school is reopened, Benjamin has refused to finish Muggle school and told his mother that he is returning to Hogwarts. No matter what. Of course, she was distraught, and still has not come around. The fear of the Triwizard Tournament clouds her mind, wanting to keep Benjamin as far away as possible. However, he doesn’t need her protection. He’s fine on his own – witty, intelligent, cunning…qualities he knows are passed down from his father. All Benjamin wants is to be his own self, independent, and make his name known to the world. Not a Nott – nor a Half-Blood. Simply Benjamin Cooper. And he will stop at nothing to get his way.

What will your character bring to the RP? A male character split between the traits of his parents and the ambition to be his own person. He’s got the wit and tendencies of a villain, but longs to be good. I want to toy with the light and dark of a soul theme – and let Benjamin find his own way.

Head Canons:

·        During his first school-years at Hogwarts, in the summertime, his mother (a professor at the University) would be sure that Benjamin had full knowledge of the history of the Muggle World as well. Many times, she gave him books to read and take at least one Muggle-schooling course. Although, the war had caused her paranoia and thus led her to be more distant. Benjamin would then browse the library in their home on his free will whenever he decided to visit. After years of studying, he finds that he likes literature from the Muggle world and learning its history; because of this, Benjamin has a burning desire to travel, but also incorporate magic.

·        Benjamin is pansexual; however; aromantic. While he enjoys sexual encounters, he does not actively seek love or feel it often. In fact, he is often even more satisfied with friendships and other non-romantic relationships. He thinks this may change because he’s never been in love and goes in with an open mind. Benjamin’s severely insecure and does not believe in love due to his parents.

·        To keep a savings in mind, Benjamin worked a part-time job during the summer holidays. Oddly enough, at a bakery that is owned by his elderly neighbors. After his father left, his mother wanted to move out of London completely and migrated them towards the sea-side in Weymouth, Dorset England. The ocean did wonders for Benjamin, allowing him to gain a sense of wonder and appreciation for Muggle life even more. The summer meant he could swim, relax, and study. His neighbor, Lyle, was elderly and allows Benjamin to take his sailboat out if he cleans it up and also gave him his part-time job at his wife’s bakery. Discipline and responsibilities come with a job, which is what Benjamin believes he needs to become a man; to have courage and never let himself standby and watch any other horrible event pass before his very eyes.

“Look at him, Camilla! He’ll never amount to anything.” Nathaniel Nott shouted to his wife as she held a younger, four-year-old version of Benjamin.

“He’s just a boy! Of course he won’t with you talking like this!” Camilla bent down, wiping the tears from Benjamin’s reddened cheeks, “Sweetheart, go to your room…please…”

All the young boy could do was look at his mother, saddened by how she seemed so broken. Every night was the same. His mother, fearing magic, did not want the boy to learn it when it became time that he would get the letter from Hogwarts. She feared it because it had killed her own mother - but Nathaniel, his father, tried to reason that it was dark magic that had done that. And with the tantrums Benjamin sometimes had, he was proven to show signs of magic with lights faintly flickering from time to time when he cried. Nathaniel, from pleading with his mother, led to arguments and fights - leaving all parties saddened greatly. Seeing the look in his father’s eyes, Benjamin quickly ran up the stairs, hiding in the broom closet with his knees hugged to his chest.

Some years later, even after Nathaniel left, the pain of being different; a freak; grew worse…

While growing up, Benjamin was faced with many issues. First his abuse, his mother becoming an alcoholic, and his father leaving. It made him feel unwanted and uncared for….as if he was the cause for all the issues. As if he were to blame. If that was what love was, he wanted none of it. Unfortunately, at home was not the only place where his insecurities thrived.

At age twelve, despite having gotten the letter from Hogwarts, Camilla refused to let her son learn magic at first. In the end, he started a year later than most Hogwarts students, making him feel behind and stupid. However, it was not his fault. As his mother tried to raise him as “normal”, Benjamin knew in his heart that he didn’t belong. It became evident as he was starting to be brought up in Muggle schooling, unable to control his magic when his emotions were heightened.

Being an awkward, shy boy, Benjamin was always bullied. Whenever the kids would push him or tease him, the bullies would suddenly trip on thin air. And one day, the boys were going too far. They began calling the young boy names saying that he was talking to the ‘Devil’ when he would whisper in his sleep at nap time (from nightmares) or utter words that he remembered his father saying when practicing and showing him simple spells.

They kicked the back of his desk, threw papers at him, pushed his arms, and even put gum in his hair. And while trying to control his anger, the young Benjamin’s temper slipped, making the teacher’s desk move forward and even start to lift before Benjamin fell to the ground, scared and shaking.

“You freak!” he heard a young girl scream and all he could do was crawl up from the ground and run. He ran until he reached his house where Benjamin hugged his knees to his chest and cried back to his broom closet, where the lights flickered from his hurricane of emotions. The young boy was confused, scared, and angry. He had no idea what to do. But the gentle touch of his mother’s hand on his shoulder was the only comfort he felt at the time. He always thought he was a freak.

Even now, Benjamin still feels out of place. Having finally been social at new Muggle schools when he was pulled from Hogwarts, it had done him a lot of good, but a lot of harm as well. He craved to be “normal” or at least fit in. He didn’t want to cause any pain that he felt when he was younger. To him, he was scared to death of being his father, but he was also terrified of being that boy once more.  Benjamin has many fears; thus, those fears are his insecurities. Although he must be careful to not let them get in the way as he returns to Hogwarts – a new, improved, young man.

Biography: Izzie grew up travelling the world with her parents. Her father was an engineer who took jobs wherever he was needed so the family would spend anywhere from months to a few years in one place. It was a nomadic life but Izzie loved every moment of it. Because of this nomadic life, Izzie was homeschooled by her mother. The decision turned out to be a blessing they didn’t need to know they needed. At the time other kids her age were heading to kindergarten, Izzie began to exhibit her magical abilities. It started off small- floating pencils when she was thinking too hard on a problem in front of her -so small that Izzie rarely noticed when she would. As she got older and as her powers became more pronounced she found she could do more things- lighting a candle just by focusing on it, slowing her fall off the swingset she’d jump off -which both awed and terrified her parents.

It wasn’t until Izzie’s twelfth birthday that she and her parents could finally put a name to all the strange things she could do. Izzie was a witch. Her letter from Ilvermorny gave her parents all the information they two No-Majs needed to know about their daughters magical abilities. On August 27th, she and her parents made a trip to New York where Izzie boarded a train to her new life. She was terrified but excited all at the same time. While she loved her parents and being taught by them, she was finally going to be around kids her own age. At the sorting ceremony, the crystal set in the Horned Serpent glowed and the Wampus roared. The choice had been up to her- was she a scholar, or a warrior? A moment of silence and Izzie turned to the Wampus making her decision. While she enjoyed learning and making up her own make believe adventures, Izzie was a warrior at heart. The few No-Maj friends she’d made over the years had always been kids weaker than her. Kids who felt out of place at their public schools. Kids who needed defending. On more than one occasion, Izzie had come home from playing in the neighbourhood park bleeding lightly or with a black eye telling her parents “You should see the other kid.” a proud smile on her face.

After dropping Izzie off for her first year at Ilvermorny, her parents continued to live their nomadic lifestyle only ever staying in one city or one country, for a few months before packing up and leaving again. It made holidays difficult- she would get off the train at Grand Central to hop on a plane or catch a bus to whatever place her parents were currently residing in. Unable to bear her dual life, just one year later, Izzie got herself emancipated from her parents and moved to New York. She got a job in a hotel downtown as a waitress in exchange for half rent on a room. Now seventeen, Izzie is excited to go to Hogwarts for the TriWizard tournament. She isn’t sure if she’ll put her name in the Goblet but that’s a decision for another time.

What will your character bring to the RP? Izzie will bring independence and her own type of family drama to the roleplay. We don’t currently have any other characters who have a family life like Izzie or the type of relationship that she does. Plus with her fierce devotion to her friends, no matter who the Ilvermorny champion is, Izzie will be there to help them succeed.

Patronus: A Wolf. Wolf patronuses represent a darker soul with the strength of a fighter. Someone who is able to mask their emotions while still having a heart that is full of passion and fire. This describes Izzie very much as she has had a lot of things happen in here life that have made her guarded but it hasn’t closed her off. She is still willing to open her heart to her friends and isn’t closed to the possibility of making new friends and new connections.

Wand: Tamarack, 9 ¾”, Slightly Springy, with a Wampus hair core and a mother of pearl decoration on the handle in the shape of a heart. The wand wood and core are both native to America. The Mother of Pearl decoration is a clear indicator that her wand was made by famed American wandmaker Johannes Jonker.

Head Canons: ⧪ Izzie is an only child. With as much as the Sanchez family moved around having another child seemed like more of a hassle than a feasible thing to do. When she was younger Izzie always wished for a younger sibling but she knew better than to ask.

⧪ Izzie doesn’t believe she will ever find love. Her walls are built so high to keep herself safe that she hardly knows how to let anyone in. She has a few close friends but if anyone tries to push for more she just disappears until their attention wanes.

⧪ Izzie likes to be active. She starts every day with a light run to get her blood pumping and can normally be found bouncing on the balls of her feet if standing or drumming on the table if sitting. She also plays several muggle and wizarding sports- her favourites being soccer and Quodpot.

⧪ Izzie is a lot smarter than she lets on. Her father is an engineer and her mother was knowledgeable in several different subjects. Of course their daughter would be just as brilliant as they were. At school she was average at best, only letting herself half invest in her studies. She was afraid if she let herself invest fully in her magical classes then it would be like giving up completely on her childhood and her no-maj parents.

⧪ Izzie regrets getting emancipated from her parents. She loves her parents more than anything and if she had her way she’d live with them until the day she got married. She’s terrified of what would happen to her parents if she ever accidentally used magic in front of them. More than that though, she’s terrified of seeing her parents look at her as though she was some stranger. Like they didn’t know who their daughter was.

Izzie was used to waking up before the sun as well as any of her housemates. They’d been living and sleeping in the same dorm for years now and only once had any of the other girls in her year woken up before her. She’d become an expert at getting ready in the dark, putting on workout clothes and pulling her long hair up into a ponytail before silently crossing the room and walking out into the crisp autumn air. Drawing in a few long, deep breaths to get her lungs accustomed to the chilly air before starting her daily run around the campus.

The sun had started breaking through the trees as she slowed to stop. She closed her eyes and took a few deep and slow breaths as she tried to slow her racing heart. Turning her face to the sun, Izzie smiled feeling more free than she’d ever felt in her life. These few quiet moments that she got to herself were the happiest moments of her day. She sometimes felt as though she could turn into a bird and just fly away. Fly away from her school. Fly away from her life. Fly away from her problems. Just be free to sing and fly. Away from an responsibilities her human body was burdened with.

The twittering of birds overhead, pulled Izzie from her thoughts. She fixed her ponytail on her head before turning back towards the school. She needed to get into the shower and into her school robes. The last thing she needed was to wind up in detention again for being late to class. She spent too much time there for daydreaming rather than practicing whatever magic her teachers wanted her to focus on in the moment. There were so many interesting and different things to learn and yet every year they were taught roughly the same schedule. The only difference from year to year being the difficulty of the magic they were performing.

Panting as she rounded the corner back to the Wampus dorm, Izzie stopped just outside the door listening for her roommates. It was quiet so they either were still asleep or they’d already gone off to breakfast. Either way, it was a few more minutes of quiet that Izzie got to keep close to her chest. She carefully nudged the door open before sliding into the room to get ready for the day ahead. The air felt charged and it was only when she turned to go into the bathroom that Izzie remembered what today was. It was the day before the chosen few got to go to Hogwarts. Just one more day and Izzie would be in another country getting to see how magic and rules differed from country to country, school to school.

Emily always was a good person and wanted to do what’s right, but she wasn’t a fool and never let anyone take advantage of her kindness. The bite wasn’t just the poison to her body but also to her heart. Her current state changed her the way she didn’t want to accept. It seems like all the darkness came out of the surface. Emily tries to fight her dark side, but sometimes she’s losing control and acts completely out of character.

Before the attack, Emily was a strict vegetarian. She hates animal and other magical creatures abuse. Now she is forced to eat meat to prevent an uncontrollable hunger for blood, and it makes her sick of herself even more.

She is a daddy’s girl. Her Muggle father is a historian, and before Emily went to Ilvermorny, he took his daughter to Italy and Greece and taught her the European culture and mythology from the non-magical point of view.

Sometimes it gets worse.

Emily couldn’t sleep all night. Every inch of her body trembled with pain, throat sore and dry craving only one thing. She tried not to move scared she’ll start to scream. Thin silver chain she tied her hands with wounded her wrists. She did it just in case to make sure her instincts won’t lure her out of bed without her knowing. The only thing that matter was to keep her composure and don’t let anyone know her secret.

Nights like this made Emily doubt that she’ll be able to hold on any longer, but she fought for control over herself with every fiber of her being. Most of the time she was winning this battle, but the price was high.

Every morning she casts a hiding spell on her burned from silver hands. At least she didn’t have to worry about her appearance- her face never had any signs of tiredness. In fact, her face barely had any expression at all. It felt like the bite froze Emily’s body, maybe not entirely, but permanently.

She forced herself to get up and prepare for classes. Hot shower soothed her aching body a bit. Taking her last blood lollipop from a hidden drawer, she decided to join her friends and get some breakfast. It’s gonna be a rough day- they’re only two weeks away from their trip to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament, and all the candidates are practicing most of the time. All of them were doing their best, but only one can become a champion, and Emily wanted it to be her. She was now a predator after all, and she needed a good challenge. Thinking about the awaiting tasks excited her and scared at the same time. What if she loses control and kill someone? But what if she wins fairly despite what she become? Proving they can live normal among the others could do a lot of good for people like her.

Mindlessly chewing her sandwich, Emily was so deep in thoughts that an owl had to peck her a few times to get the attention. A bit surprised-she didn’t expect any letter- Emily took an envelope- it was big and had a weird yet familiar scent that made her shiver. There was only one piece of paper with one handwritten sentence inside, but it was enough to get Emily panicked.

Character you are applying for: Victor Silva

Gender/Pronouns (any characters can be changed to non/binary): he/him

Why this role?: I admit the initial attraction was the faceclaim but I also really like his bio - the opportunity to play a non-Hogwarts student and the character type, big-hearted and protective, a big brother and someone who is very loyal to their friends.

Describe the character in your own words: Victor Silva often feels like an outsider. Ilvermorny was supposed to be his opportunity to fit in after the town where he grew up in rejected him. But it’s also the place where he lost his connection to his only friend. He loves magic and feels a wider sense of belonging in this world than he did back home – but he still feels lonely. Independent and strong-willed, used to taking care of people like his siblings, Victor is very self-sufficient. But in spite of that, he longs to make connections to people. He’s not the type of person who needs lots of friends – perhaps because of the way he grew up, struggling to fit in, having one friend was enough for him. Jose was that friend. He is very dedicated to the people he loves, so worked hard to keep that friendship, despite being so far away – he wrote to him ever day. Having spent so much time writing to his no-Maj friend meant that Victor didn’t make as many close friends at his school. As a result, he now feels quite isolated.

How do they feel about their House placement?: Wampus House is known to favour warriors – Victor has always felt comfortable in this house. He often imagined himself as a warrior of a sort, fighting for his place and defending his siblings.

Head Canons: (Provide a minimum of three head canons) 1. Victor has 4 siblings: Daniela (15), Alexander (13), Samuel (10), Luca (8). As the oldest, he thinks of them as his responsibility. So far Daniela and Alexander have followed him to Ilvermorny. Luca, the youngest, has not yet shown signs of accidental magic and may be a Squib. Since their father is a no-Maj and they live in a muggle community, the family are unconcerned about this but Victor tries to give special attention to Quinn when he is home, knowing how horrible it is to feel left out. He doesn’t want his younger brother to experience this.   2. Victor’s ambition is to be a journalist. He particularly wants to be an international correspondent for the New York Ghost. This is part of his reason for wanting to come to Hogwarts and make international contacts. 3. His mother, Stella, is a witch and was initially a Healer. However, after marrying a non-Maj, she lost most contact with her family and moved to a non-magical community. She eventually started working within that community as a no-Maj nurse instead.  Victor doesn’t have any contact with his magical relatives, only his cousins through his father’s side. The family lives more in the non-magical world, except for when the children are at school.

Para Sample: (Write a minimum of 400 words in character, third person) Right now, Hogwarts was probably the most famous wizarding school in the world. Not for any academic excellence or magical brilliance – just because it had been the scene of the final battle in England’s most recent Dark Wizard war a few years ago. Many of the students had actually taken part in the battle.  And now it was opening its doors once more to international students for the Triwizard Tournament. And Victor Silva could be one of them, if he only put his name in this cup. Victor took a moment to think – again. He always thought too much. He couldn’t seem to stop himself from turning things over in his mind. Once he thought he had an answer, a million more doubts came back in. Did he want to leave his school for a whole year? His country? His family? The opportunity was once in a life-time. His marks were good, his spell-work impressive. Being a Triwizard champion gave a person ‘eternal glory’. Eternal glory didn’t appeal much to him, but a little present glory might not be so bad. Proving himself in magic, proving that the last six years of his life had been well-spent, even if they’d cost a lot more than he’d have liked to pay.   Was that really worth a whole year away? But then again, he’d spend most of the year at Ilvermorny anyway, so he wouldn’t be with his family, except for Lex and Dani, the only two old enough for school. And to be honest, except for a few of his housemates, his attachment to the school itself wasn’t too strong. Seeing another wizarding school was an exciting thought. If he was really serious about working as an international contact, this was the best choice he could make. Dani coughed theatrically behind him and Victor rolled his eyes. Now that she was getting older, he had to admit he was using Dani more and more as a confidante. His sister was much bolder than him, would leap at the chance to go to England and compete. It had probably been a mistake to bring her along. He thought she might be two seconds away from ripping the piece of paper from his hands and putting it in herself. “I’m doing it!” he told her, feeling his resolve harden. If there was one thing he hated, it was looking weak in front of his siblings. No matter how old Dani got, he didn’t think he’d be able to get past wanting to be invulnerable for her and their brothers. He reached up towards the goblet, dropping the piece of paper with his name on it into the flames. Sealing his fate. That was what it felt like. A choice written in stone. It was out of his control now. That was a feeling Victor hated most of all.

Connections: Tamara Warner – one of Victor’s few friends at Ilvermorny. Tamara is both a classmate and housemate and Victor admires her carefree nature. He gets the impression she struggled to fit in with her life before school as much as he did. Brandon Prince – Victor has never liked Brandon. From the outside looking in, Brandon seems to have everything and take it all for granted.  Victor sees the careless way Brandon treats his friends and family and disapproves, thinking him selfish.

Are professors playable? And if so, how many professors per school will be allowed?

Yes! Once the RP gets up-and-running, more applicants, and when the Triwizard Tournament starts, older characters will be playable.

Basically, after a month of characters / students getting to know each other, the Goblet of Fire ceremony will take place. There, new characters will arrive. This includes professors, older members of the wizarding community, and friends & family of characters to watch as the Tournament takes place. When we get closer to the Tournament, we might put a limit on how many per school, but I can’t imagine more than 8 (2 per house).

I would like to apologise for my lack of activity. Between getting sick, family obligations, and a weekend of shenanigans with my friends getting online was a bit difficult. I am feeling much better and will be online everyday until acceptance day which is this FRIDAY, November 16th!

Where do the visiting students live while at Hogwarts? And what do they do while the Hogwarts students are in classes?

Hello! :)

With the “revitalization” of Hogwarts, some changes to the castle have been made - and some additions. This includes two towers that will cater to the students of other schools when Hogwarts will host the Triwizard Tournament. Meaning it will remind them of home and work much like The Room of Requirements for the different schools. The Ilvermorny & Uagadou students will be in those new quarters, able to move about the castle much more easily.

Along with this, a handful of their professors teach the curriculum they are used to, open to Hogwarts students to learn something different. As such, they are able to take classes at the host’s school as well. This way, friends can be made and everyone can feel united - even with the competition.
