FINAL EVALUATION - After spending 5 hours writing my evaluation last night on the template, I really dont want to write a lot on here. Anyways, I am really pleased with my final outcome, it wasn't what I had originally thought i would be making for my final piece, i was meant to just be up cycling a garment i had bought however i am glad i decided to take a risk and try making my own concept garment by just pinning material onto the mannequin in a shape of an A line wrap skirt and a bandeau top. Throughout the project i experimented using a range of new techniques and created samples with these as you can see in the image I wanted to hang my samples on a rail so you could see the process and journey of making my outfit. I also up cycled a few tops and a skirt and decided to put one of the vests on top of my bandeau top as i felt it looked more effective with the straps as I didnt have enough time to create straps. I feel my creative skills have heightened during this project as I tried a bit of everything, i used the sewing machine although i dont particularly like to but i knew it would make my garment and samples look professional. And in the start i wanted the presentation of my final piece to be on a white plain background wall, however I was lucky enough to be positioned on a door which i was able to paint and do anything i wanted on it, i decided to use ink and bleach and create a decaying effect as this technique is one I used for nearly every single sample i created and it also i feel fits in really well with my colour palette and theme. If i was to change anything, i think i would actually try create a garment that you could actually wear and i could of gotten professional pictures of someone wearing it however due to the time limit i was unable to do that, as well as not being so comfortable on the sewing machine I think it would have taken much longer to create a wearable piece. I dont think i would of changed my theme as i have really enjoyed working and creating samples to due with this theme as i have such a variety to look at. Overall though i am very happy with my project and feel i have been successful in creating a concept piece and i think my creative skills have grown.

Thinking about presentation - i was lucky enough to get a space next to a door which i could paint onto, i decided to use ink&bleach as it would fit into my theme of decay, i think it makes my whole final piece look so much better other than being on a plain white wall. I have also added rusting powder but i will have to wait and see how it turns out as ive never used it on another surface other than fabric. I think it looks most successful with the mannequin facing forward and close to the samples of my work, however it also looks effective with the mannequin side on as it portrays the door as a large scale piece not just a background. But i think i'm going to put the mannequin facing front on as it looks more professional.

My final piece - i am really pleased with how this has turned out, it wasn't what i originally it to look like however i think it looks really effective. I would of liked to actually make the garments if i had enough time and get someone to model them however i didnt have enough time and i would of had to practice a lot on the sewing machine as although i did improve my skills on the machine throughout this project, i think i would still need to work and practice more. I think my colour palette for this project is really successful as the colours compliment each other so well, as they are contrasting.

Painting my space with ink&bleach, decided to film to show the process. However once the ink is on the door it turns a blue colour instead of the black i wanted, however it still does resemble the colour of mould.

Decided to change and use this fabric i have dyed using bleach and ink on white fabric with some greeny/blue acrylic paints on top. i love this effect, its my favourite type of pattern and design. I wanted to add more to it so decided to french knot little orange pieces of thread on the top, for the skirt i think i will use the sewing machine to free embroider a pattern influenced by decay natural surfaces.

WEEKLY EVALUATION - Feel like the past two weeks have been my most productive. Originally i wanted to upcycle a garment i already own. However decided very last minute that i wanted to try make a skirt and bandeau top out of the fabric i bought. For the top i have dyed, bleached and sewn onto a piece of fabric and cut into a bandeau shape then added black fabric around the back. For the skirt i have created a wrap style skirt, i think i want to add more detail onto it, considering bleaching it and sewing onto it. I am also considering hanging pieces of upcycled clothes around my final piece, with small samples of dyed fabrics that ive sewn onto. I think by adding the colour blue/green into my palette it has made my work look so much more interesting.

Collecting some of my samples and starting creating final piece. Originally thought of upcycling a black cotton dress, however have decided to try and make my own skirt, pinned how i would like the skirt to look like on mannequin and will start sewing tomorrow. Was considering making the blue sample with sewing on top into a bandeau top or bralette. I want to create something quite modern. Im not sure whether i want to try ink&bleaching on the skirt or rusting powder.

Art work by Robert Jackson - his work has really inspired my work. I love how he uses colours of blue, yellow and green. I also love the textures he has created I want to try re create this. His work also resembles natural decay. I think i will try working on metal as i love the effect it leaves.

Added the colour on top of the vest I had previously bleached, by adding this colour i think it makes the top look so much more interesting. I am thinking of embroidering on top of this.

Involving colour from decaying food (e.g mouldy bread) I love the greeny/blue colour i think it makes these samples look so much more effective and eye catching. I am looking at adding this specific colour onto my final piece. I really like how these samples have turned out this is just ink&bleach and acrylic paint on fabric.

Decaying surfaces. Really enjoying what I am doing for textiles for my final major project. I love experimenting with new techniques. And creating chemical reactions :-)

Embroidering wrinkles onto painted grandads face on fabric. I love the effect of the paint on the fabric i think it makes the wrinkles even more extreme. I think this piece is really successful
