Tessellation in SFM
A little problem with Valve that they didn't make normal documentary every element in SFM, for example, flexes and today we are going to talk about tessellation. You can't find any information about it (only on Valve Wiki) and you will hear my information about it.
What is tessellation?
Tessellation is used to manage datasets of polygons and divide them in real-time rendering using a subdivision method. Goal is make smoother model. Example on the picture from Wikipedia.

Current feature works on DirectX11 and OpenGL 4. If this option is available in any game, you can turn on and you won't see any vertices or low-poly models. Last time this feature available in games, but not always.
Work with tessellation
We all know that SFM works on old Source engine with DirectX9 + 32-bit, but you can find out that tessellation works here. If you tired to smooth edges in Photoshop, you can use tessellation, but it won't work on any model. Maybe will work on objects, but you need to test with character. What about plus and minus from feature? + Control level of tessellation with command mat_tessellationlevel <1-16> + Model will receive good lightning and will use a subdivision method - More level of tessellation, more load on GPU - Can crash your SFM because DirectX9 and 32-bit exe - Can be problems with compilling model with $subd - Studiomdl will crash if model will have any triangles. $subd work only with quads.

Adding tessellation to your model
If you have your own model, which you modeled, first make sure that there is no triangles on the model. If you have it, try to convert them to quads. You will need addon which you can import and export smd/dmx format. For example, I use Blender Source Tools for Blender. Be sure to export model in dmx format, because smd convert to triangles by default, but dmx can export in polygons and triangles. After that make QC file and write what you need. You can find information how to compile and decompile models. Just google it.
In QC you will need to put $subd before model name. $subd will turn on tessellation on the model.

If you receive errors or crash in compiler, that mean you have triangles on the model or something else.
Adding tessellation to the model from Internet
I was trying to put tessellation on some models, but problem was a lot of triangles on the polygon, which can't convert to quads. Only way is make retopoligy. I know - this will be long time to do that, but it's only way. After retopoligy you will receive model with quads, but you will need to add flexes, bones, etc. Most of problems on the characters, so less problems will be with props.
Conclusion
Few people know these features because of Valve's attitude and can't find good documentary. This element need to add everywhere and characters or objects will be more smoother and poster will be beautifull.

Survivors: Reboot (PreAlpha v0.1.2)

I said that next public version will be Alpha v0.2 with basic gameplay, but I didn’t upload new build for very long time and I think that you want to test or try new features. Here you go - Survivors: Reboot (PreAlpha v0.1.2)

New features: ● New UI ● Character with animations + footstep sounds ● Raw and worked multiplayer (go down for instruction) ● Simple AI for werewolf. He only walks and doing nothing
Changes: ● Remade stamina system ● Flashlight shine a little bit far in near mode ● Reduced walk and sprint for character ● Added LOD’s for models. Right now it doesn’t have very large optimization.

Bugs: ● Some problems with replications. For example, someone flashlight is off, but for other flashlight is on. ● Sound of footsteps plays to everyone. ● Werewolf walks only to server, who made host of game. ● Same problem with papers. Only server can collect. ● When you are holding Shift while standing, stamina reduced and activates shake camera

Instruction about hosting a server: 1) Open a port 7777 2) Launch the game and launch session (Play -> Host -> Launch) 3) As soon as you appear on the map, give your IP to clients. Join to the server throw Play -> Join. 4) Don’t join to server until he appears on the map.

You can see that multiplayer is working, but that’s not all. Have problems with pages, which can collect only server, not client. Also need to add button “Host” and “Connect” in “Play” button.

Trying to make mechanics as close to real and you can already test it: a dynamic change of the day with an impact on the character, the energy system (the food and consumption has real values of calories), thirst, sleep and bleeding.

Разработки игры “Survivors: Reboot”больше не продолжится.
Из-за того, что у меня нету желание и настроения делать игру и по этому новой версии не ждите. Тем более я понял, что делать игры - это не моё. Лучше буду что-то создавать в 3D, например, в Blender.

New and last test version 0.3 is here!

Next version will be on stage Alpha, but you need to wait for very long time because there will be gameplay, large map, multiplayer and werewolf.
New features: 1) Added background 3D world in the menu.
Changes: 1) Fixed bug where client hold Shift and after that WASD and character didn’t run. 2) Fixed bug where stamina was going down if push up very fast WASD and after that push down Shift and you didn’t more or run. 3) Little rework of running. Speed run is a little less and I made smooth transformation between walk and run, but I had some problems with BP, so camera shake is only working if you are going to run. Maybe this feature will be remade.

New features: 1) Full rework of graphics settings. I didn’t make all that graphics settings. I found source file from one guy on Youtube, who said that you can use it everywhere and you shouldn’t give credits, but I will put credits. There need to work with interface. 2) Added pages. You need to collect 8 pages on map and when you collect all of them, you will tp to main menu. Press “e” to collect them. 3) Added 2 sounds for atmosphere, a.k.a. bird sounds. 4) Added circle crosshair. 5) In-game works console, so if you don’t see FPS, just type stat FPS in console.
Changes: 1) Flashlight (near mode) - less brightness and (far mode) - little less brightness too. Flashlight became less yellow. 2) Updated HUD. Download test version 0.2 here (64-bit only): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1uftvD-242GQMqciBMFFVu6DePhmQMG1G

New test patch (v 0.1) released for Survivors: Reboot!

Finally I made first test patch for this game. Heh.
WARNING!
There are will be a lots of test patches, because we need to test new things, which I will made. There will be some bugs, which I will fix. Don’t tell me anything about optimization - I know, how and what and I am trying to make the best optimization for gameplay. There aren’t screamers, so test this patch normal.
Controls WASD - walk Shift - run Left Mouse Click - turn on/off flashlight Right Mouse Click - near/far mode of flashlight Esc - pause and menu
Known bugs 1) If you change graphics and go to graphics menu again, parameters will be default, but this won’t change your graphics, which you changed previous. Just change something and will update. Here system doesn’t update values for menu. 2) If you press Shift and after that WASD, character won’t run. 3) You can’t put custom resolution. Game will made that resolution, which you have on monitor. Window mode - Alt + Enter.
Things, which I want to make on next patch: 1) Add papers. You will need to collect them. 2) Make maximum graphics settings. 3) More work on character. 4) Slowly make default map for game 5) Add more textures, and make more optimization (textures, logics etc.)
