omg, after finally being able to watch the entirety of a season as it comes out, i want to dissect joel's whole character and look at it under a microscope soooo bad.
like some of the action he (the character) takes this season, while obviously controlled by cc!joel, are just so interesting that i feel the need to interpret them and flesh out his character.

sam and alex both growing up different from the people around them (sam from his family and alex from the vampires that stole her) and just wanting to live normal lives is like one of my fav parallel, mainly because we got to see alex actually got through with her plans of going to med school to become a nurse and help the wayward sisters in ways other than hunting.
alex, claire, and kaia are the perfect parallels to sam, dean, and cas and i dont ever see it talked about enough in conversation or in fanfiction.
#YES OMG#also sam and alex both have arcs to their stories that center around them being used and taken advantage of

I was looking at some of the promo for s4 and got so angry 😭
TUA had the opportunity to be one of the only recent shows on Netflix to not be cancelled before the ending but they literally took the expectations their fans had and shat all over them.
The posters that had all the siblings + Lila with their first appearance in the show and what they looked like in s4 were SO COOL. The ode to Klaus being able to levitate in s4 was amazing and I'm sad that all the promo we got led to s4. (even though some of the promo had like no thought behind it and made a bunch of plot holes and was kinda dumb I CAN LOOK PAST THAT and focus on the cool stuff)
#the umbrella academy#luther hargreeves#diego hargreeves#allison hargreeves#klaus hargreeves#five hargreeves#ben hargreeves#lila hargreeves#tua s4#looking at some of the promo made me miss s1 and its vibes so much#all the characters were so complex (even though that meant some of them were HATED by the fans)#i felt like some characters were dumbed down to be easier to love (diego and luther) and others were sooooo ooc

when Klaus gets shot in s4 and dies while surrounded by his family who are desperately trying to save him, it would've been the most angsty thing if Klaus's powers never included immortality but God and the Devil literally just hated him so they kept sending him back.
CAN YOU IMAGINE if he woke up in the void, expecting to stay there forever until the little girl found him and explained that him being sent back to life every time had nothing to do with his powers, but because no one wanted him in the afterlife. AND WHAT IF he got sent back right as the marigold was poured on his wound so the others thought they saved him but in reality, he was always going to come back, powers or not.
He would've come back knowing that he didn't need his powers to be immortal yet his siblings still went against his wishes so he would've had to live with the ghosts again. His siblings had such good intentions but they ended up just hurting their sibling more. :(
#i know this makes like 20 million plot holes but idc#klaus hargreeves#the umbrella academy#tua s4 spoilers#tua s4#maybe im just saying i'd want a scene like this cause I loooove every scene klaus has in the void

tw slight mention of sex trafficking
ok so I know this has probably been brought up a lot here but I just saw someone on twitter make an AMAZING point about Klaus's character growth from s1 to s4. The tweet boiled down to the fact that through the seasons, Klaus's character lost a significant amount of his queerness/ feminity. In season 1 we see him wear skirts, makeup and traditional feminine things much more freely than we ever do after s1. I understand why this was done for seasons like s2 where he was literally in 1960's Texas and at risk of being hurt for how he presented himself but strangely his self-expression becomes tied to his drug abuse pretty early on.
In s4 we see Klaus as a new sober hypochondriac version of himself that formed from the lack of his powers and newly acquired mortality. He loses a lot of his self-expression too in this season only ever wearing less traditional male clothes when he's literally being sex trafficked and high for the first time in about 3 years. His queerness becomes linked to his drug abuse and tendency to have unhealthy sexual relationships which I've always found odd.
I've kept this thought in my drafts for a while because I thought I was looking at his character the wrong way but now I'm reconsidering. St*ve Bl*ckman's newly found out transphobia and homophobia are definitely changing my previous opinion because now the way Klaus's character has progressed,,,,,, makes more sense.
#the umbrella academy#tua s4#klaus hargreeves#tua s4 spoilers#now allison sa'ing luther makes more sense#her character assassination isn't talked about enough I fear#its so odd how one of the only woc leads in the show becomes the big bad and does something so terrible to her brother when it was so#unnecessary#steve blackman i hate you

TUA wasn't "always meant to end like this" nor did it build up to a tragic everybody dies ending in any way
sorry this is long and rambly but im noticing a lot of people coming out of the woodworks saying that the ending wasnt even bad actually and i just.. its not a redeemable ending to me and yes it does ruin the rest of the show for me and i wish i had the strength to make it not so but im stuck rn.. anyway:
i don't think i can forgive the ending, more than anything that happened in the final season
they had interesting character points, in an interesting setting.
and yeah they didnt tie up anything, and several people were out of character this season but thats nothing new in this fandom
eudora was forgotten, diego and luthers personalities didnt develop they were altered to be more palatable for the audience, grace and pogo became cameo characters instead of finishing their arcs or development in a meaningful way, reginalds plan has made less and less sense as the seasons go on, the commission was entirely changed from its set up in s1 and then forgotten.
thats all forgivable as long as the season is self contained and satisfys the tone and story.
s4 did none of these things - its not self contained as it leaves jennifer and abigail severely underexplained, and then flips the tone and message of the entire series on its head.
people have already noted that the theme of the show is that recovery from abuse haunts you into adulthood but with love and hard work and perserverance you can overcome it. the apocalypse has always been a metaphor for the cycle of abuse and how it continues to harm people after its been done, and how allowing it to dictate your life will end up in it imploding in your face etc.
but theres also just the general tone of the show.
the final season tries to make out that the siblings are themselves responsible for the apocalypses and only their death can prevent more apocalypses (twisting the meaning to be that of "if you have trauma then you should kill yourself" which like.. clearly bad, no explanation needed)
but to pull through on this ending the previous seasons need to have ended in tragedy too, or hinted towards it tonally. they never do.
the obvious way to do this would be to write each season ending/apocalypse to be sad/tragic. have the focus be on the people dying horribly in pain, show the remorse of the siblings, punish them by making it personal, show that they killed everyone and they know it.
the only season that even slightly does this is s1 as patch is killed because of diego, pogo and grace are killed because of luther and viktor, and the rest of the supporting cast is killed due to viktor.
but even season 1 isnt framed as a tragedy or a story leading up tot a tragedy.
its a story of hope. the siblings arent upset by the apocalypse because they can survive and prevent it and theres hope for the future and more specifically for THEIR future. nothing else remains from this timeline other than them because the whole show is centred as their recovery story. their hope.
if this was ever going to be presented as a hopeless tragedy then we needed to see characters like claire killed brutally. we needed to actually see Grace's lifeless body. we needed to see the consequences and see that nothing they did was fixing anything by having these consequences follow them and not just in a "this happened and im sad" but in everyone around them and them becoming worse as time goes by.
if they wanted the whole "we cant exist" ending to work then we needed to frame s1 and all subsequent seasons to actually show that it was their actions that caused the apocalypses.
viktor causes the first apocalypse because of reginald's abuse.
the US government causes the second apocalypse because they tortured an innocent to the brink of death and then got upset and aggressive when that had consequences (viktors powers overspilling and destroying the fbi building). like sorry that apocalypse was never viktors fault - its like false confession under torture, it doesnt count as real because he only did it to make torture stop.
the 3rd apocalypse is caused by Harlan accidentally killing their mothers, which again is not even his fault. he didnt want to kill them he just lost control and he had no idea that it would end the world (logically it shouldnt because this apocalypse defies the laws of time that they themselves established for the show).
the final apocalypse isnt even caused by them its caused by abigail and reginald. as are, technically, all of the apocalypses as abigail created the marigold and reginald released it and created the broken timeline by allowing it to travel with him to the umbrellas world.
in s2 the apocalypse has no consequences because they prevent it. ray and sissy and harlan get to live. klaus' cult memeber get to live. they even punctuate this ending by showing that theyre moving on and progressing in their healing because ben is finally allowed to move on with his afterlife, and he is no longer kept there, stalling their recovery from his death. even five's integration into the family again in s1 showed growth and recovery and HOPE.
in s3 the world is saved, and luther is brought back to life and five and diegos limbs are returned. everyone who was erased/died like lilas family and reginald are brought back to life because there is HOPE.
if they wanted to sell a tragedy and sell it well then we needed to see consequences. allison should have died in s1. five should have given up and returned to the commission in s2. luther should have stayed dead in s3. their families should have died and caused them pain.
nothing about this ending followed through on the theme of hope.
there are ways to do it. and its been done well.
romeo and juliet works because they are remembered. star wars prequels are loved because its a doomed from the beginning story that ends with hope in the form of luke saving his fathers soul and returning the jedi to their true state - protectors and peace keepers. frodo and bilbo return from their journeys ill and grieving and forever changed, and they and the magic beings of middle earth have to pass on before their time because of the harm of their stories. macbeth dies in the end because his story was one of a hero becoming a villain.
theres so many good examples of tragic endings but s4 wasnt one of them.

I think the fans deserve better than whatever s4 was :)
Hello Umbrella Academy Fandom
In the wake of the recent tragic events (season 4), we're all feeling "what in the everloving fuck was that"
Many are writing fix-it-fics or even rewriting the entirety of season 4. By doing that by ourselves won't work, so here's what I propose: We start a massive rewrite project, when enough people join I'll start a tumblr community where we can share our ideas. When we have enough, we'll streamline them into six fully written scripts, which will be the end goal of the project.
I really believe that we care about this show enough to provide ourselves with a satisfactory ending and final season. Truly, I do, and I hope you do, too.
If you're interested, message me. And please, not to sound like a loser or anything, reblog this post and spread it around as much as possible so that as many people who need to see it can.

I am mohammed Ayyad, I am 17 years old, high school student, I have 7 brothers, including 4 girls and 3 boys and my mother.
Since the beginning of the war, my family and I have been displaced 4 times, each time more severe than the other.
The first is from Gaza City to Khan Yunis, and the second is from Khan Yunis to the shores of Bahr Khan Yunis, then to the city of Rafah, and then to an area called Al Qarara .
My house was completely destroyed , everything is under the rubble my childhood, my memories, my books, and my ambition and Many relatives and friends were killed and life was completely destroyed.
so l please you to help me and help my family collect donations to evacuation the war zone, get out of Gaza safely, and complete my school studies, via my donation link.
I know the news is covering the genocie of Palestinians less and less and because of that people are overlooking the ethnic cleansing in Palestine but that doesn't mean anything is getting better. They still need help and one way is through gfm (go fund me's).
These people don't deserve the horrors that they're living thorugh so simply sharing and speaking up can do a lot.
#free palestine#free gaza#palestine gfm#the umbrella academy#< tagging this because I can see a lot of people talking about s4 right now so more people can see this gfm

I love seeing people's 'fix-its' of how s4 should've gone. Every single one is better than what happened throughout the actual season and I think that says a lot seeing as most people a) aren't getting paid for their ideas and b) created good storylines within like 3 days tops.
ANYWAYS DROP ANY ALTERNATE STORYLINES YOU HAVE IN THE COMMENTS OR WHATNOT
I LOVE THEM ALL

[Part 2]
Ben’s death in the original timeline has more to it than it seems… Turns out its a key event meant to always happen in every timeline… The siblings realize that Ben’s body serve as a portal to another realm of dangerous entities that are bent on coming to this side… it doesn’t help that their Ben is escalating…

this whole plot had such good opportunities to show Klaus's trauma but it ended up literally useless because all it did was add more trauma to his character,,,
when the lady and the guy who held him hostage (i forgot both their names that's how irrelevant they were) had that shoot out, I genuinely thought we would see some flashbacks to Vietnam because he was literally in a dirt pit with gunfire above him. It was the perfect opportunity and it so badly wasted. It could've also tied into Dave's dog tags that Klaus takes from Sy's box of stuff because they weren't mentioned again but no.
You went there again, didn't you?

for all that s4 got wrong, I'm glad they looked more into the relationship between Allison and Klaus. She says that (paraphrasing) she was always the one Klaus called when he was in trouble (which goes with my hc that Allison was the one who paid for Klaus's rehab bills every time ) and that was the reason she wanted to help him now but then to have Claire and Klaus both be able to see through her was so needed. Klaus's outburst about how she was only helping him to make herself feel better and not like the monster her family makes her out to be is special to me.
Klaus is always shown to be a little slow or dumb compared to characters like Five and Allison is shown to be an amazing actress who puts up a facade that no one can see through so to have Klaus have such a good read on her is so 💥💥💥
I loved the little screentime these two had in s1 and the heartwarming scenes in s2 so this felt like a good way to see the progression of their relationship

Ben has been one of my favorite characters in the show since the first season and it pisses me off to no end how he’s treated in s4.
I really respected the show’s decision to have Umbrella!Ben sacrifice himself for Viktor because it made sense for his character to be ready to move on in that moment and to do that for his brother and his family. It was an end that did justice to his character.
But if Viktor dies at the end, and so does the whole family, then his sacrifice is for nothing. Ben saved his family at the expense of his own existence for what reason? So that they could live a couple more years and die anyway in the series finale?
I enjoyed the new take they did with Sparrow!Ben as a version of Ben who grew up without the mess and love of the Umbrellas and how much that changed things because it was a compelling concept—which had no pay off in s4.
Why did the show bother establishing Sparrow!Ben as an asshole that was also desperate to belong and be liked, as the guy who whined about not being invited to Luther’s bachelor party and asked Klaus why the other Ben was so much better?
Why did we go through all this story arc if he ends up exactly the same in s4? Ben is still pushing everyone away, still considering himself to have no family and no friends, still thinking of himself as a bad person.
I thought we’d get to see Sparrow!Ben clash with the others in order to show them he’s not their Ben. And it would have been so freaking satisfying to watch the siblings accept and understand he’s his own person and decide they want Sparrow!Ben in the family anyway. That would be an emotional conflict I’d care about, not the bullshit insta-love the writers pulled with Jennifer.
What was the point of Sparrow!Ben this season? He was used to being a soldier, but seemed desperate for a family last season—a family he immediately rejected when it was offered to him in s4.
He died a horrible death and had no control over his own body at the end. He didn’t even become a stupid flower in the new timeline. He just ceased to exist—all alone.
With no family or ties. No hero death. Why did the audience spend 2 seasons getting to know this new version of a well liked character if the show did absolutely nothing to take the story to any decent conclusion?
Both Umbrella and Sparrow Ben are just erased from the narrative because the show didn’t even bother including them in their stupid collective death ending. 4 seasons of Ben’s death haunting the narrative and the Hargreeves for this?
I’m ranting like a deranged madman but that’s my main takeaway. What a waste :/

I have a hc that when Klaus is sober, he's got really shitty hearing because of the constant noise the ghosts make around him. Like he always can hear little whispers or sometimes screams when he's sober so he has trouble hearing things in the real world.
I feel that would make so much sense because the whole reason he falls to substance abuse is because it gives him peace and quiet in a way he just can't have with all the dead folk following him.
I also think that the writers just forgot that Klaus has to live with dead people trying to get his attention ALL THE TIME because after the scene where he gets his Marigold back, shouldn't he be bombarded with all the townspeople that his siblings just murdered?
I would've loved to see more of his character growth because he went from being the loser lookout to being able to make his dead brother corporeal to being able to let his body be possessed by said brother to being able to come back from the dead and travel through dimensions to losing everything he worked so hard to achieve and having to live in fear to whatever the fuck happened in s4 😭
I mean don't even get me started on how unless they made him after he got his powers back, he literally did nothing in the final fight scene and his whole plot with the void was completely forgotten?
#the umbrella academy#tua s4#klaus hargreeves#tua s4 spoilers#I'm upset that Klaus's plot this season did literally nothing?#Like in every other season he has his side quests but they always have some kinda of value#s1 hes the one who throws Reginalds book away which leads to Viktor finding out he has powers AND saves everyone in the last episode by#making Ben corporeal#s2 hes the one that lets Ben into Viktors head#s3 he finds that kugel-whatever and helps Reg with his plans and figures out he cant stay dead#AND he somehow creates a new body for himself in a completely new dimension with no help?
