💥 Small Writing Habits That Genuinely Changed How I Write 💥

listen. i’m not here to sell you a productivity system or convince you that waking up at 5am will make you a novelist. i am deeply Not That Girl. HOWEVER, here are 5 chaotic little writing habits that quietly rearranged my brain chemistry:

✏️ typing BEFORE i know what happens i used to think i had to outline everything before writing. wrong. i get more done when i let the scene surprise me. just start with vibes and a line of dialogue. the rest shows up once you start moving.

🗣️ saying the scene out loud like a play no joke. talking my scenes out like a script?? life-changing. the pacing, the emotion, the rhythm of it all makes more sense when i act like i’m gossiping about my blorbos in a voice memo.

⌛ 20-minute timers (not for productivity, just to start) i tell myself “just 20 minutes.” sometimes i stop. sometimes i blink and it’s 2 hours later and someone’s been emotionally eviscerated in chapter 12. this one’s black magic. use wisely.

🕯️ re-reading my WIP like a book no editing, no judging, just reading through with snacks like it’s already published. changes how i see the pacing and emotional arcs. also reminds me it doesn’t completely suck.

🧂 leaving in the messy parts i used to delete scenes that felt “off.” now i just write a little comment like “THIS IS BAD BUT KEEP GOING.” turns out momentum matters more than vibes. shocking, i know.

anyway. tiny habits. huge mental rewiring. 10/10. highly recommend.

hot late night take: people are pissed about authors on ao3 who use the “chose not to warn” tag/warning on fics because they feel entitled to all fics and are frustrated when those fics are not explicitly written, tagged, and catered toward them specifically.

telling them “just filter those fics out” doesn’t work because deep down these bean soup fanatics think that they are entitled to every fic.

it's for the best I don't have it in me to hyperfixate on law because what the BatFam really needs is an outsider-to-insider POV of the friggin champ of a lawyer who has to deal with the entire Wayne family mess. maybe they're around when the Wayne parents get murdered and have to help Alfred navigate the battle for the estate and custody for Bruce against the various rapacious relations that come out of the woodwork. or maybe they appear, righteously suspicious, when almost-old-enough-to-inherit-his-trust-fund college student Bruce Wayne disappears mysteriously only to reappear years later and seem like a totally different person?? or maybe they're around for none of that but join the firm just in time to get pulled into this wildly wealthy and single young man adopting a strange circus child without warning??? and then he keeps picking up these kids from the weirdest places without explanation and it's messing with estate planning but ALSO he keeps making uhhhh interesting fiscal choices regarding his financial holdings and business dealings and lawyers and accountants are two different jobs thank GOD but also part of being a lawyer is a nose for trouble and whyyyy does no one else clock some of these decisions as HIGHLY suspect? at least there's enrichment in the form of some of the most vicious and satisfying cease-and-desists ever crafted to keep the paps out of those poor kids' faces and wow wasn't it the worst day, even for you, heartless, professional lawyer, when you have to change Bruce Wayne's will not to add another kid but to remove a dead one EXCEPT NOW THIS MAN. THIS INFURIATING MAN. HAS JUST APPEARED IN YOUR OFFICE AND SAID TO ADD THE POOR DEAD KID BACK INTO HIS WILL????? THERE WAS A FUNERAL SIR. YOU ATTENDED. YOU SENT FLOWERS.

at a certain point we have to figure out where the hell all of the spam/AI requests for commision work starting coming out of the woodwork from.

If anybody's still on FF dot net I have been getting absolutely spammed with those requests in my PM inbox, and then crazy enough one that was an "offer" to join a site where I *wont* get spam messages to post stories, for a fee.
