(For reference: this was at the Tom of Finland exhibition, containing actual, queer, kinky af pornography. There were definitely some young people there, perhaps in their late teens. There was even a parent with their baby who was probably too young to understand anything at all. And guess what, all those people are probably going to be fine.)

Based on the Dungeon Meshi Shapeshifter segment-! Heres Panthera Noire AU kids! I had a lot of fun drawing this, making tweaks to their designs, and exploring their relationships just by drawing each of the characters!

If you're interested in my deep analysis and explanations- or hey! Just some close ups, read below for some brief notes I had! vvv

Ladybug

PN: Darker hair and prominent freckles- reminiscent of Marinette. Her hair is a lot messier, because of that correlation too- but her eyes are piercing and inhuman. Panthera is split between humanizing her with Marinette traits and dehumanizing her by making her a god. She also has a more pink outfit and her antenna curl is closer to Rose's design than Marinette/Ladybug's. Personality is still the same though, has her eyebags.

RR: Much more cartoonish and cute! Hair is much more perfect and idealistic. Scary silvery eyes are now more glittery and magical looking. Her suit is a bit overly detailed due to Alya's overthinking and accidentally meshing of her fandom ideas vs reality. Eyebags are gone but freckles remain!

C: Freckles are DEAD!! Incorrect patterning on the shoulders- and vividly off colors. A bit too saturated due to the Ladybug media he consumes. No eyebags, she's upbeat, and completely confident.

QB: Suit colors, hair colors, and general details are nearly perfect due to Chloe's deep admiration- however everything has become edged with her recent experiences with Ladybug. Her eyes are piercing, her doubt in Chloe feels 'clear'.

Panthera

LB: She's a lot softer looking. Scars acknowledged but mostly ignored or at least, fully healed. Still scuffed though, and generally very close to reality. Personality is different though. A lot more dependent, awkward. Hair is de-saturated. Ears and eye markings are more reminiscent of early Panthera designs! Grey hair is not included. Claws are more 'nail' like.

RR: Again! Overly detailed. Alya sees the other heroes with deeply admiring eyes so this will be a trend. Her brows are bit more furrowed with suspicion and doubt. Ears are much more tattered and outfit is a mixture of all Panthera designs. Grey hair is.. suggested. Personality wise is very clever and trickster-y.

C: The "cool" Panthera. Claws are wrong, a lot more piercings are added. She's got an exaggeratedly cool personality that comes straight from Carapace's "SHE'S SO COOL" thoughts. Eyes are bit more intimidating and cold due to her intensity.

QB: Extremely soft faced and warm looking. Shoulder spikes are slightly forgotten, hair is extremely soft, and eyes are dilated to be as gentle looking as possible. Scars are not forgotten. Her personality is extremely kind and warm.

Rena Rouge

LB: VERY Alya looking. Hazel eye color almost takes over the vibrant violet. Costume is almost perfectly the same, beauty mark is more prominent. Colors are slightly warmer/redder. I sampled it from Alya's civillian flannel. Her personality is near perfectly replicated.

PN: A bit sharper features, she admires both Rena's powers and is also equally wary of her mystery. She views Rena from a fae lens- and so those features are brought out. Besides the eyes being so freaky, personality wise she's quite on point- even mentioning details Rena doesn't remember giving Panthera (but were in an interview with Juleka).

C: It's kinda Rena Rouge but if Carapace didn't have his glasses on! All the main details are there, but it's just slightly off and simplified! She's got a close personality though! Just slightly more... perfect? Like a cartoon character.

QB: Very Cool tm. There's slight envy in how perfect and cool and amazing she is- she is brimming with confidence and a natural leader and is terrifyingly skilled. Her hair is very vivid and is missing the orange gradient.

Carapace

LB: He's upbeat! He's Nino! He's a lot more laidback than actual Carapace and his surfer bro voice is a bit less exaggerated than reality?? Like Marinette tuned it out so hard over the years it's resulted in this. Suit is slightly more detailed and lighter.

PN: He's a bit more stressed! Suit's darker and there's some details muddled. He's far more skilled than the real Carapace is at fighting and is a bit more worn out.

RR: He's a much more confident and smart Carapace! A natural leader, and a deep strength. Some details are wrong, but many are right enough it might take a second glance.

QB: She forgot his dimples and his suit details are pretty inaccurate. Eyes are closed cause she's unsure of what his actual eye color is underneath the orange visor. He's very kind though...

Queen Bee

LB: Sharper, the jaw line/chin is inaccurate as is many suit details. She's meant to look like what Marinette has always remembered Chloe as, and it's fighting with the current image of her. Hair is Chloe's color, and expression is much more sour. Personality syncs with this conflict.

PN: Softer, there's a softness and awkwardness to this Bee. Panthera's seen Chloe at her most troubled and earnest and so- while she looks very Chloe like- it's from a positive view. Details are very close, just slightly off.

RR: A confident, almost glamourous take. Her colors are vivid and regal. Hair is VERY anime esc and her personality isn't bossy at all- but leading and her spice is charming.

C: It's simplified and there's a few details like her fur cape's chain being forgotten. But her personality is quite similar! She's like a snarky sister.

Hi!

So...

I am Korean American. I'm from an all Korean household, and I love my mom a lot. I also acknowledge that I've been terribly hurt by her at many instances and that has viscerally changed how I treat myself in the world. But, that doesn't mean I don't love her. Or appreciate her efforts to do the best for me. A lot of this was written on my gripes with the KPDH fandom and their demonization of Celine, and my own conversations of self reflection with my own mother.

The contrast of; What they thought was best vs The outcome. The frustrations on both sides and how the other feels- The guilt and shame that neither side knows how to handle- But a hope at the end for progress and helping the other out as a peer.
