I knew this day would come but I still wasn’t prepared

Season 5 Adrienette has turned in to a subtle version of Ladynoir where it’s Marinette dodging Adrien’s gestures of affection

And Ladynoir has turned in to Adrienette where Chat Noir has absolutely no idea what his Lady is saying and has a big question mark over his head 90% of the time but he’s still full of affection for her and smiles fondly whenever she’s being nonsensical

That’s the real love square “reversal.” Their love is requited on all sides and has been for a long time but now the clown behavior has flipped and we have Adrienette with openly affectionate Adrien and Marinette in heavy denial + Ladynoir with Ladybug acting nonsensically and Clown Noir going “we’re very good friends! this is very platonic superhero partner behavior!” about his literal lawful wedded wife whom he went on an astral projection tropical island honeymoon with

I'm so grateful for @buggachat 's Bakery Enemies AU and I am so obsessed with the way they've been having this heartfelt rollercoaster conversation and the whole time adrien is not wearing any pants

Wait, that’s actually so cool to think about though. Alya and Nino mesh incredibly well together, but neither are good fits for their partner’s particular kwami, even though Alya and Trixx / Nino and Wayzz are similar personality-wise to each other too.

Okay here's the thing: Marinette and Adrien are both more similar to the other's kwami. Marinette is the impulsive plan maker, while Adrien is the one trying to be perfect because if he's not perfect then what is he? Likewise, Plagg is clearly demonstrated in Kuro Neko to be the one who makes plans between him and Tikki, while Tikki is demonstrated in Dearest Family to struggle with putting herself in a position where her flaws make her vulnerable.

And this works, because those dynamics are inherently about balance; they need one for the other.

But Alya and Nino are both far more similar to their kwamis than they are to the other's kwami; in fact, like I said in the post and in the tags of the post, I don't think they'd be a good pair for the other's kwami, not in the way that you need to be a good pair in order to be a good superhero.

Trixx is manipulative and a liar, and that's not a stretch or fanon; he's heavily manipulative of Alya in Sapotis, as much as a character can be on a kid's show. (Which is to say: Trixx is genuinely presented as being manipulative to the scale of Lila.) He needs to be with someone who will interrogate that because otherwise, he's got a lot of power over his holder, and who better than Alya who always seeks the truth, even if it kills her?

Wayzz, on the other hand, is transparent and protective. He's used to a lack of activity, having been the only one outside of the Miracle Box for however long Master Fu wore his Miraculous. While he's gotten significantly less interaction with Nino than Alya got with Trixx, especially in S4, I don't think there's any evidence to support that Wayzz needs someone to challenge him, while there's a lot of evidence that he did well with someone who he did not argue with often. Someone who was more chill, go with the flow, generally speaking.

(And now I'm thinking about Nino as a foil for Master Fu, but that's another post.)

I think it ultimately comes down to the nature of their relationship -- kwamis are exclusive to their holder, in a way. In S1, Tikki didn't have anyone to talk to except Marinette, and Plagg didn't have anyone to talk to except Adrien. And while if a superhero is more open about their identity the kwami may be able to talk to more people (Tikki can talk to Alya in S4, for example), ultimately there's always going to be a limited pool, while the human can have any relationships outside of that.

If Alya and Nino could had to be exclusive in that way, where they're the person's only friendship, relationship, and family? That may cause a strain. That would cause a strain for anyone.

So Alya and Nino are similar, and in that way, Nino is similar to Trixx and Alya is similar to Wayzz. I can imagine Nino and Trixx bonding over special FX in movies, and Wayzz sitting with Alya quietly as she works for hours. But if Nino couldn't be friends with Adrien, Alya's constant journalism and her general tendency to get caught up in situations that are anxiety producing to him (ex. Anansi) might not be great for him because he maybe wouldn't have time to chill. And if Alya couldn't be friends with Marinette, if she didn't have someone to go places with her and scheme (like we see in Feast or Gigantitan), she might be bored.

Not to mention that when both people in the relationship have their needs fulfilled, they're able to devote more time to fulfilling the other's needs -- Alya may make more time to relax with Nino if she's already had her journalism fun, and Nino may find it easier to be on the go with Alya if he's already chilled.

So like!! It makes sense! It makes sense that Alya needs to be like Trixx and Nino needs to be like Wayzz, while Marinette doesn't need to be like Tikki and Adrien doesn't need to be like Plagg, because the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous need balance, while the Fox and Turtle aren't constructed that way. And it makes sense that someone well suited to be with Wayzz would also be well suited to be in a relationship with the Fox Miraculous holder, because the nature of a romantic relationship is completely different from a kwami & Miraculous holder relationship.
