NOT excited for the homestuck animated pilot because this means i have to actually finish homestuck to be in the gate- keeping side of the fandom and also im scared of homestuck fans who will have my spleen removed for seeming like a 'fake' new fan.

A rewrite of phase 7
(this is just me tossing around ideas, not me saying that the static channel was awful or anything)
Firstly, I CANNOT see Russel or Noodle willingly joining a cult, especially if Murdoc's the head, so most the cult lore will be scrapped.
instead, the original message of blindly stanning celebrities, much like a cult, will be used, this will probably disappoint the LORE bros because this means no more of moonflower, or the whole saving 2d sequence, or the whole forever cult... if the lore has sucked for Gorillaz for the song machine + cracker island i say scrap it
please... no more of weird advertising meta influencer thing they went for, the robot voices, the genericness, them never mentioning the MUSIC OR THE ALBUM??
so instead, the interviews will talk about the music, Russell can talk about the multiple collaborations, Noodle can discuss the meanings behind the songs and the message of the cult-like followings of celebrities and the white-roots of Hollywood, Murdoc and 2D can cover them living in LA and all the behind the scenes inspirations of the music videos, which ARE ALL STAGED NOW, no more mysterious camera and characters not being aware their a band
The music videos for cracker island in my opinion weren't to bad, i liked cracker island with Thundercat, it felt surreal, but still, MUSIC video, yet no instruments being played or clear signs of it being staged. Silent running was my least favorite for sure
a good reference for a better music video is @glowrillaz storyboard of oil; surreal, has a message not related to lore, gives all band members some good screentime
youtube
(GO WATCH!!)
that's all I have to say for now, I liked the look of the cult at first, but the execution dropped the ball so bad, here's to hoping they make a great "phase" this year
yet i am not a full hater, here's some stuff i liked
the idea of the short 2d podcast was pretty good, if it didn't talk about the cult stuff and focused more the music or little tid -bits i think it could be great
I liked the "live" performance they did in times square, bit jarring to see them PLAY instruments, I wish Murdoc played bass tho, but still one of my favorite things to come out this phase
youtube
(banger song too)
the music in this album was GREAT. Loved oil, skinny apes and most of the album, a decent amount went into my playlists, shame it was paired with the lore.

this art post is gonna need a bit of explanation first.
in trying to make transmasc naoto work logistically+fit the narrative's format (in my heavily self-indulgent mind palace p4 rewrite), i'm thinking like. he built his whole detective deal through helping his grandfather+indirect correspondence, and inaba is his first time appearing in-person for it.
but due to his appearance+masc nickname+etc, the cops assume he's a boy. and even deep in denial, naoto just cannot resist the opportunity to get to be seen as a boy for a bit.
there ends up being a bit of a dual identity thing going on, where naoto primarily appears around town doing detective work and hanging out as such as a boy, while a weird new "girl" who doesn't talk to anyone transfers in at school (as he is legally registered as a girl, and is still of the belief that he can't escape his fate of being a girl forever).

i imagine naoto's girl costume with classic disguise opaque glasses and a shitty wig. and he wears his gym clothes instead of the uniform cause even when he's trying to make sure people don't connect his two identities he does nottttt wanna wear a sailor seifuku

naoto: i am actually fine being a girl. i just didn't bother to correct anyone because it doesn't matter. in fact everyone believing im a boy works in my favor because of... workplace misogyny. yes. that's the reason i spend all my free time as a boy. and why i don't look in the mirror or talk to anyone when i look like a girl and run home to change the second i get the opportunity. it's fine.
the investigation team get to interact with naoto in both scenarios (likely the most of "girl" naoto you see is during the school trip. like this)

(when the comedic relief character gets serious and you can suddenly see their eyes lol)
and through those interactions and his dungeon+shadows encounter, he's able to accept that he can be a boy and any difficulties that result from that are worth it (in addition to his whole wanting to grow up thing, but that's not the topic of the post so i haven't bothered detailing it here). and so he comes out and goes full boy mode 24/7 from then on👍

actually putting this in a post to go in the tags instead of rbing... i will never stop believing saki actually liked yosuke. sorry
yosuke didn't just go to the tv world because he was bored and hated inaba. chie wasn't just friends with yukiko because she got a kick out of her needing her. yukiko wanted a place to belong more than anything else. i could go on. shadows are only part of what you feel, not the whole truth.
saki clearly thought yosuke was a pain in the ass. she thought he was annoying and didn't like the way he was lowkey clinging to her as one of his few friends in inaba. we really don't know a lot about their relationship, so it's possible that this is ACTUALLY all it was...
but saki also got a print club sticker with him when he first came to inaba. she told him "parents are parents; you're you." when yu first transfers, she goes over to him and tells him she hopes he and yosuke get along well. yosuke mentions she treats him a lot like her younger brother.
you can think someone is lowkey annoying and still like them. i mean if you couldn't i don't think the investigation team would last...
we'll never know. saki's shadow is the only truth we know about her. it's entirely possible she actually did all of this for yosuke just to be nice... but i don't know. i think it's discrediting to say she just hated him. that's all
