I am hung up on writing the next chapter of my Kriselle fic because of trying to put a timeline down for how much the main kids have aged, how old Noelle and Berdly were in the spelling bee where she fails to spell "December" (thus implying Dess had disappeared by then), etc. Knowing the canon ages of the current characters would help... ah well. There's just a lot of circumstantial events I'm trying to use as evidence to get a feel on how old everyone was when the disappearance went down.
Also, I assume Asriel is a freshman in college? I bring him up because I'm using him as a point of comparison for Dess as a similarly aged peer. Toriel's dialogue of not being sure if Asriel would want to return to their quiet little town implies he hasn't visited home after attending, yet, so I imagine it'd be weird for multiple years to have passed and not even have had him visit for the holidays yet. Generally, with how people speak of him, it sounds like him leaving has been a more recent change.
Anyway, rambling aside, I seek the opinion of the masses:
#december holiday#dess holiday#deltarune#I'm tempted to go omori route and say dess was 15 when she disappeared and there was like a 3 year age gap between asriel/dess and kriselle#but like. the sprites in berdly's flashback and the actual words being used for the spelling bee seem too juvenile for them to have been 12#I think#I struggle to see them as more than like 10 years old when Dess disappeared#which would then make like a 5+ age difference between kris and noelle and their siblings#this is driving me nuts. I wish I didn't get hung up on small details so much and just wrote instead but lol

I think with the success of Kpop Demon Hunters, every culture should make their own unique magical girls. Make them crazy. Make them unique. Drench them in your culture. I want a buffet.
Make them popstars, make them fashion designers, make them computer coders, museum curators, farmers, gymnasts, florists, boxers, whatever you want.
All girls teams. Solo fighters. Co-ed groups. Frenemies. play around
But definitely let me see your culture. put in stuff americans won't understand. incorporate cultural dress. Make me research your country in a fandom fueled deep dive until 2am.
I want it so bad
#agreed!! please put in stuff americans wouldn't understand!#I hope to be delightfully confused and have several research rabbit holes to go down as a result!!#my other stuff

I don’t think Ralsei’s gonna turn out secretly evil, but it’s offputting to be recruiting everybody you can befriend to fill his empty town when Undertale’s true pacifist route hinged on his counterpart stealing the souls of the entire underground you went out of your way to spare and becoming a way stronger enemy. Like my knee jerk reaction is absolutely that those guys are gonna get absorbed somehow
#same. I've felt similarly about Castle Town#my most good faith reaction is that perhaps Ralsei is attempting to Noah's Ark the dark worlds somehow#in line with however he has been trying to subvert the prophecy through kindness#either way I don't feel good about it- particularly with it being *our* town#deltarune

When mokumokuren said The summer Hikaru died isn't necessarily a bl but a queer story they really meant: it's a story about identity, about feeling an outcast or that you don't belong. It's story about heteronormativity but also standards and hegemony in different senses. We've seen this being acknowledged by Yoshiki in the past:
And now with Asako empathizing with Yoshiki through her own experience (feeling like no one will come understand her for her ability of hearing).
Both Yoshiki and Asako understand more than anyone.
Queerness is not just referring to LGBTQIA+ in the story. It's using the word in it's historical primary use: "being strange" "odd" ...out of an imposed "normality".
'Hikaru', Yoshiki and Asako understand more than anyone what this feels. That's why the author has been emphasizing that they do not only want to portray queerness in its contemporary meaning but the feeling of not belonging.

it is very funny to me that what prompted yoshiki to finally come out was asako saying this
asako: she’s an ally no matter what!

Yoshiki: When I'm with him, being "normal" stops mattering. It saves me, somehow
Yoshiki: To him, no category holds any meaning
Yoshiki: It's enough to just be each other's place to belong
im gonna be sick.

on a real note i genuinely cannot stress enough how important qrp yoshikaru is. their relationship is so so special and i am so glad that this kind of queer story is getting representation when it is often overlooked. you’re allowed to be upset that “your ship isn’t canon” or have your own interpretations (because at the end of the day everyone has their own views/experiences and were going to see art differently) but ignoring the aroace aspect of the story just because it doesn’t fit your narrative is just erasure. i also think people get too caught up with the platonic part in queerplatonic and not the queer part. their relationship isnt more than friendship but less than romance, its something that is not easily defined by either label. they are both queer and share something special that is intense and meaningful but it just… doesn’t fit neatly into a certain category. and i also love the separation of yoshiki’s feelings for the human hikaru and “hikaru” because i feel like it just further highlights the complexity of the feelings they have for each other. it’s belonging as salvation. they have this like radical acceptance because for “hikaru” human labels and concepts don’t matter therefore theres no need to be “normal” with him while yoshiki knows what’s its like to feel like “the other” alongside his never ending capacity for compassion. they both found their “home” within each other in an environment that didn’t accept them. and that is so incredibly special.
#THEY UNDERSTAND ME THEY UNDERSTAAAND MEEEEE#I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE WOULD FEEL LET DOWN#WHO CARES IF HE DOESNT SEE HIM ROMANTICALLY#HE SAID THEIR RELATIONSHIP WAS INTEGRAL TO HIS SELF ACCEPTANCE AND HE FEELS LIKE HOME TO HIM#HE MAKES IT SO ALL OTHER LABELS OF NORMALITY DONT APPLY ANYMORE#HOW CAN SOMEONE HEAR HIM SAY ALL THOSE THINGS AND FEEL DISAPPOINTED#AND BE DISAPPOINTED THAT HE SAID HE DOESNT THINK HIS FEELINGS ARE ROMANTIC IN NATURE#THEY WANT TO BE TOGETHER NO MATTER WHAT LABEL IS ON IT#END POST#the summer hikaru died#tshd spoilers
