To anyone who is new to the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise or curious about Yugi/Atem's fashion, here's some things to note. The Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga began publication in 1996 and would continue until 2004, spanning almost 40 volumes. It was inspired by earlier manga like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Mitsume ga Tōru (or The Three-Eyed One).

These characters are a bunch of late 90s kids with their Tamagotchi and payphones. Punk and punk alternatives were very popular during the 90s and would continue to grow over the early 2000s with subcultures like Scene, who listened to hardcore music like pop-punk. Their hair style is called teased hair. There's a wide variety of styles that fall under this.

But the name of their shape is Liberty Spikes.

Yami's iconic buckle vest is inspired by Edward Scissorhands.

Metal punk and alt is known for its DIY, buckle shoes, chains, and studded bracelets.

And one of the signature motifs of Scenecore is layered studded belts.

Some people have referred to them as goth, but personally I've never associated them with gothic elements in their textures and clothing outside of the morbid attributes of the story. So, have some punk guinea pigs as a mediator.
