aneverlostword‌:
she was a bit startled, but only a bit, black eyes flicking over to the source of the sound. tsubomi glanced at the other, up and down, before turning to her fully. the cherry blossoms? well, there were all sorts of people here, she wouldn’t have been surprised if there were a few who didn’t know what cherry blossoms were. it was still rather jarring, though.
Tumblr media
“they’re cherry blossoms. most of these trees don’t actually produce cherries, but they’re related to those that do.” she offered a small smile, if only to dispel any assumptions about her gaze (   “death glare,” she could hear kano say   ). “this is a lot more than i’d normally see back in japan, though.”
yes, that was good. even so, she did glance around before adding, “what sort of flowers do you have where you live?” yes, that was a lot less nosy than “where do you come from”. even tsubomi would prefer having such a vague question directed at her than a demand about her birthplace.
That answers part of her question, though more questions naturally come about as a result— mostly to the effect of why they’re called cherry blossoms if they don’t produce cherries, or what a “juh-pan” is. Curiosity presses her to ask, but she swallows it down for the time being; it’s not polite to leave this girl’s question unanswered, all things considered.
Tumblr media
“Oh... There aren’t a lot of flowers where I come from.” The only flowers she’d ever gotten to see in person were the golden roses growing around her mirror, and they weren’t real flowers -- not like the ones that grew in Fleta’s area. Enjel’s fingers curl gingerly around the petals in her palm. “The ones I saw were called.... Daisies, I think? They grew from the ground, though— I didn’t know flowers could grow from trees. What else can trees grow?”

If nothing else, Enjel can say with relative certainty that the food being made as part of this holiday’s “tradition”... is very, very good. She’s on her fifth candy apple since yesterday and doesn’t really have any plans to stop, because it’s so sweet that it makes her teeth hurt and she loves every bit of it— but before she has a chance to enjoy her first treat of the day, it’s gone.
It takes a moment for her mind to catch up. The round golden mirrors of her eyes stare up at him, watching him tear into the stolen candy apple without any hesitation or reservations whatsoever, but she can’t actually believe it’s happening. She waits for it to be some sort of daydream, or a crass joke, but -- though he certainly cackles about it as if it were a crass joke, there’s a smear of caramel at the corner of his mouth and the stem is still in his hand, clear evidence of the cruel reality she’s been thrust into so early in the morning.
Her temper ignites.
It’s not just that he doesn’t even have the decency to pretend to be sorry; that laughter, it’s...
“Hey! That was MINE!” The shouting is bound to cause a scene. It’s definitely going to draw attention to them. Enjel doesn’t care about any of that; she jabs her right-hand pointer finger right at his chest, so puffed up with indignation that she’s almost standing on tiptoes.
Tumblr media
“Why on earth would you do that?! That didn’t belong to you!”
Tumblr media
“O~oh? Now, doesn’t that look good––” Hyde’s whims lead him saunter over to a girl whose eyes are as big as apples, in her hands is a candy apple shining with gold. Before she’s able to take a bite of it, his gloved hand swipes the stem and takes a loud crunch. There’s a few chews, then he swallows –– with a satisfied smirk.
“Were you gonna eat that, lass? Guess you’ll just gotta get another one! Hyahaha!”

...No matter how many times it gets explained to her, the appeal of this ‘Halloween’ thing is lost on Enjel. She doesn’t hate or even dislike it, no matter how little she might understand the purpose of it, or how much it reminds her of her past; even so, despite being immersed in the mood of the island as it prepares for the arrival of Halloween night, she feels...
Lost, somehow. The people around her seem to be having so much fun.
(She’s supposed to be human, isn’t she? Shouldn’t she be having fun, too? If she’s not having fun, then... What does that mean? What does it mean to be human in the first place?)
Tumblr media
“I don’t get it.” The person beside her is someone she doesn’t know, but she voices her complaints nonetheless; human or not, kind or not, she only wants someone to talk to. Any sort of conversation is preferable to being alone with her own confusing feelings. “What’s so fun about pretending to be a monster? Or about bullying others over something as silly as candy? Why would you celebrate making other people unhappy?”

Though Enjel isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to get used to this place, she can’t say she completely hates how much there is to see and do here. Should this be the real world she’d so desperately wanted to see, then all of this chaos is supposed to be part of the human experience... And even if it isn’t, it’s something new. No black void, no red carpets, no mirrors, and no pumpkins. She should be grateful just for the change of scenery, shouldn’t she?
For example: in the Cotes ward, there are trees that near-constantly shed pink flower petals. Inexhaustibly, as if the flowers somehow have an infinitely replenishing supply of petals to shed. On a sunny day like this, Enjel can’t help but stop to watch, and she eventually finds herself holding out her cupped hands to catch a few as they come her way.
“What is this?” The question is posed aloud to the stranger standing near her: an individual that doesn’t seem much older than herself, head tucked away in a purple hood. It’s hard to tear her eyes from the petals, but she gives the other a furtive sidelong glance. “Um... I mean, what kind of flower is this? I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

Savior’s Respite. It’s an awfully lofty name for a place that’s all but hidden away, located so off the beaten path that one might think it a well-kept secret of the island. The particulars of its name aren’t anything Enjel really cares about, though— whether or not she’s worthy of treading the same ground as saviors, she gravitates toward it nonetheless, drawn to the peace and quiet it fosters in the face of the island’s overwhelming bustle.
Tonight, though, Enjel realizes too late that she isn’t alone atop the cliff. She’s sure the other must be there for the same reason as her; they’re staring out over the horizon, back turned to her. They cut an awfully lonely figure among the flowers, and her first instinct is quietly leave the way she came, lest she disturb them...
Tumblr media
...but when she takes a step back, the pebbles she was careful to avoid on her way forward crunch underfoot, and the stranger perks up at the noise. Enjel is all but frozen in place when their eyes meet— like a thief caught red-handed, her expression is awash with nervous guilt.
“...! I’m sorry-- I was just about to leave, I swear.”

With the rumors and rumblings of monsters lurking in the waters of the Koi Lake, and with the dense fog hanging over it, it’s not as popular with the locals as some of the other spots in the ward. Even Enjel – for all of her curiosity – tends to stay a respectable distance from the lake’s edge on most days, wary of both the water and the creatures that could be in it.
Nonetheless, that same persistent curiosity compels her to draw closer when she spots a figure standing daringly close to the water, throwing handfuls of something in. Something like… cake crumbs? Whatever it is, it’s too small to make out— and as she nears, she can see that it’s attracting a small crowd of fish in the water.
Are they the koi? But they don’t look so monstrous… In fact, they’re kind of pretty.
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?” Enjel asks without the least bit of guile. She almost sounds a little amazed. “They’re all coming to you…”

Enjel doesn’t get what this Halloween business is all about, but the manner in which the island is decorated nearly sickens her to her stomach; it’s all too reminiscent of his aesthetic sense. She’s managed to glean that it’s temporary, a sort of month-long party known as a “holiday”— but she can’t fathom how anyone can celebrate with such gaudy decorations everywhere.
...At least pumpkin pie is in abundance at the moment, though. Small victories.

ENJEL — from the RPGMaker game Pocket Mirror.
Tumblr media
☆ technically a fabricated being, wants to become a real girl in canon
☆ the one who created her is a manipulative abusive little creep demon and promised her that if she stole a special pocket mirror she could become real
☆ that was a lie
☆ she doesn’t realize he’s lying in most endings, always dies when she’s || close to achieving her goal, thanks dad
☆ aside from a different color palette, she looks almost identical to the main character of the game she’s in! mc-chan alter. acts like she’s the mc’s only ally throughout the game but at the very end, gasp, she betrays the mc. everyone who plays the game kind of expects it, so it’s not that much of a shock.
☆ feels guilty enough about it to sacrifice herself in the game’s true ending though (said ending is this blog’s canon point!) so she’s not entirely bad, just really desperate
☆ doesn’t know SHIT about the outside world bc her dad only gave her as much knowledge as she needed to pursue her goal. her dream is to ride a carousel (the kind with horses)
☆ got trust issues out the wazoo and a half-missing finger. both of these are related
☆ please be her friend and teach her about Things™
☆ alternatively: be her enemy and have her antagonize you occasionally like some sort of bratty gremlin bc she doesn’t know what manners are.
☆ do not interact if you are the strange boy thx
