i love experiencing how my classmates work to avoid misgendering me. for instance, today one classmate greeted the rest of our small group: “All right ladies and gentlemen — and Avery”
another time a classmate went: “Pardon me, ma’am — uh, sir, uh….esteemed one”
and, my absolute fave: “Hey ladies! — and gentleThem”
i love these moments both because they’re humorous and because they show how hard these folks are trying! it’s not about getting it right every time at first, but consistently correcting yourself!

We were raised in, and exist in, a racist society.
Under these conditions: racism isn’t something you simply abstain from. Racism is something you must actively unlearn.

And this sums up a lot of my thoughts and processing. I'm off to bed now, and will hopefully be able to sleep.
MTVS Epic Rewatch #173
BTVS 6x19 Seeing Red
Joss Whedon, you sneaky, twisted, evil bastard…

Trigger warning for everything that’s wrong and awful in this world, btw.
DISCLAIMER: Rewatching this episode felt a whole lot like self-inflicted torture. Two of the most horrible events in the show’s run happen in the space of twenty minutes. Two of the most questionable writing choices in the show. I had been putting off my review for this episode precisely because of it. And I could only stomach dissecting one of the aforementioned events. I was kind of drained by the time I got to the second. This recap is not an invitation to spark off a debate. We all know what happened in this episode. I think it’s safe to say we all hate it. I know I won’t write anything here that hasn’t been written or said before. I know no one will be enlightened by what I had to say on the bathroom scene. I definitely don’t want to stir up a debate and I don’t want to answer any questions about this episode. This is my polite way of asking you not to send me any asks. Read on at your own risk.

Decisions
Ok, so been binge watching Buffy and Angel. Just finished Buffy s6e19: Seeing Red, and that was a rough episode to watch, but then ending on such a tragic cliffhanger.... according to the watch list, I'm supposed to watch Angel s3e21 next, which means if I decide to keep watching so I can see what happens next, I'll be staying up till 1am at the very least, and I know I really shouldn't. But how am I supposed to sleep after that?! How did people watch these shows one episode at a time and wait till next week to see what happens??

Bingeing
You know, it's funny how I seem to trade one addiction for another. I tend to spend way too much time scrolling through Facebook, but you know getting sucked into binge watching a show really cuts down on that.

must have been easier to be alive before news traveled so fast and you were only ever aware of a handful of tragedies instead of thousands and thousands of them being delivered to you on a daily basis. why is there even a question of why our generation is so depressed and anxious like I’ll tell you why?? everything i read breaks my heart and my capacity to empathize and be outraged is absolutely maxed out. yeah i’m sad bitch! we’re all sad! there’s no relief!
