But that was easier said than done. Telling someone not to worry usually ends up having them worry more. For now though… rest. Vaeda let her eyes drift closed, breathing a tired sigh. 

Hopefully the nightmares won’t bother her tonight… would be awful if she woke up screaming or choking… or heaven forbid ‘those’ dreams taunt her.

Just don’t think about it– just don’t think about it–

     “Mhm...’S the best you can do...” he was a lot more tired than he thought he’d be, surprisingly. Closing his eyes, he could already feel himself drifting to sleep, even as Yukine came back upstairs. He paused in the doorway, taking the sight in for a moment, then walked over to Yato’s futon.

     He’d have to use this one tonight...ew. Instead of resigning immediately to that idea, he went and grabbed an extra blanket to lay down on it, then set up the table he always saw Yato using, hoping it would block out the light from the lamp for both of them, and turned on the light. Then he grabbed the blanket he was going to sleep under and finally laid down.

     ...He’d probably have trouble sleeping tonight. Eugh.

“I know, I just didn’t think she’d charge me for things…”

New game plan then. Don’t stay here longer than necessary. If this is the God of Poverty’s place, she needs to leave as soon as physically possible. “It’ll… it’ll be okay… I’ll make due.” A soft sigh. The Maiden is glancing back towards Yato. “Thank you again… for all your help. I really appreciate it.”

     “Honestly...as long as she doesn’t do much for favors, you’re fine.” Helping Vaeda probably gave him some debt to pull himself from, but she should still be free of it. Hiyori was still working off her own, too. “Don’t worry about it too uch, okay? You’ll just stress yourself out.”

Charging her!? Putting her into debt? Why would she do that?? Was this a ploy or something, bringing her here then? No– Yato doesn’t seem like that kind of person… that much she’s certain of. 

“I won’t borrow any then!” The Maiden will deal with her own dirty clothes. Then again, she could call someone to come help her out… bring her a set of clothes. “I can’t go into debt– they’ll be so mad if all of the money disappears…”

     “I did warn you she’s Binbougami--the god of poverty.” Was she listening when he first said that? He stretched slightly and shifted before he laid down on the futon. He looked tired. “It’s just a possibility she might go that route. It’s in her nature and she doesn’t seem to want to try to change that.”

“I can help wash…” Vaeda offered, managing to shift ever so slightly on the futon. Not like she could scoot over too far, with the stiffness and weight working against her. There’s another faint growl of her stomach, causing the Maiden to wince a bit before glancing away and facing the other side of the room.

“You… also wouldn’t happen to have clothes I can borrow tomorrow, do you?”

     “...Actually, yeah, that might help. Kofuku might charge you and put you in debt. Borrowing clothes might end up doing that, too, actually...” He settled himself beside her and yawned. “I don’t really have any extra clothes...Yukine does, but I don’t know if they’d fit you.”

“I… would rather share with you… age and all, I don’t think it would be… appropriate for me to bed with a kid. I would hate for you to go elsewhere.”

Yato can be trusted not to– do anything. And he also needs darkness to sleep too! So, it would be ideal for the two of them to share a futon, and Yukine can have his own with the light!

Though now she’s realizing that it’s Yukine’s futon she’s in right now, and that Yukine will end up using Yato’s. 

“Is that okay…?”

     He was like...a thousand-something. Hell, he didn’t even know anymore. He lost count years ago...even early on. Birthdays didn’t exactly mean too much to a god when aging happened differently than a human’s.

     “I guess. Daikoku can wash them tomorrow.”

“Yukine sleeps with a light on?” Vaeda asked quietly. The poor kid must still be afraid of the dark. Sometimes fears just don’t go away. “I don’t… mind… but that might make sleeping difficult.”

The Maiden had always preferred a room that was pitch black, as dark as she could make it. Faint white noise in the background, so that any tiny noise isn’t waking her up. 

“Whatever makes him comfortable… I’ll manage. But where are you going to sleep?”

     “Mm...I usually use that little table to set up a barrier to block the light. It works decent enough...” he scratched the back of his head. “Would you be okay sharing with him? Otherwise, I’ll have him share my futon. Or I’ll just find somewhere else.”

     Yato shrugged. He’d taken refuge at Tenjin’s shrines before, what was one night?

“I… I could… but… I don’t think I’d eat all of it…” Vaeda was very much accustomed to not eating large portions of food in one sitting. “I don’t know if I can right now though… my body is too stiff to move. I can’t sit up, much less attempt to eat.”

And Yato can’t help her sit up either. She’s just too heavy… unless he got that Daikoku fellow to help? He did say he was like a Yakuza guy, which means he should be big and strong…

“Really… I should just rest… I’ll eat tomorrow…”

     “...Alright, but at least try stretching occasionally. It’ll help ease the stiffness. At least, I hope. It usually helps. You don’t even have to sit up for that.” He got to his feet, patting himself down, like he was looking for something. “Oh, when Yukine comes back, he might be going to bed soon. I hope you don’t mind if he uses a bedside lamp while he sleeps...”
