From a former bug kid, I am obsessed with your insect au! Quick question: what's your reasoning for choosing a peacock butterfly and blue damselfly for Miles and Phoenix?
Anon, thanks for the question! Here is my slow answer: From the beginning, I had a clear idea of what kind of insects Phoenix and Miles would be, so I didn't consider other options, but here are a few reasons that shaped this image for me: Miles Edgeworth 1. Herbivore (logic and analysis) We can say that in this AU the difference between herbivores and predators is more akin to those who follow reason and those who trust their feelings and emotions. Considering that Miles makes decisions based on logic and analysis (and not under the influence of emotions or intuition) the role of a herbivore suits him better. 2. Butterfly (”Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death”) The transformation from one form to another serves as a metaphor for profound changes in personality. It may appear that the caterpillar dies during the metamorphosis but it actually undergoes a radical transformation, becoming the butterfly. Miles experiences profound changes in personality that affect his outlook on life and his career as a prosecutor. Ultimately, the metamorphosis Miles goes through helps him become a better person. 3. Peacock Butterfly (does this guy have a sense of style?) This character wants to wear frills, gold and fur, and I will let him. Is there a more suitable insect for this purpose than one with the word "peacock" in its name? 4. Owl Butterfly Since Miles is a peacock butterfly, I decided to make Manfred an owl butterfly, thus drawing parallels between them and highlighting their contrasting natures. Phoenix Wright 1. Predator (emotions and intuition) I decided to make Phoenix a predatory insect for two reasons. First, his keen intuition fits the image of a predator. Secondly, by taking opposite positions, the characters allow the conflict between herbivores and carnivores to be shown from each side's perspective. This also references canon, where Miles and Phoenix confront each other in the courtroom as prosecutor and defense attorney. 2. Dragonfly (he's not that simple) Dragonflies, although they seem fragile and harmless, are active predators. Phoenix's awkward and seemingly simple nature can leave a deceptive impression hiding his true nature. However, in critical moments, Phoenix demonstrates the strength of his moral principles as never before, remaining true to them even under pressure of circumstances. 3. Common Blue Damselfly (conciseness) Since appearance reflects the character's personality, Phoenix's costume should be comfortable and practical. I thought the modest appearance of a common Blue Damselfly was perfect for simple but iconic image.

just wanted to say all of your art is so fun, love seeing the characters in a variety of styles! & your nrmt insects AU is adorable, it gives such Don Bluth’s Thumbelina vibes 🥰
Thank you!! It means so much to hear that you like my art and this AU. Honestly, I didn't even think about Thumbelina since I was planning on it being a detective story.
