Tech Culture Post 2: Option C-Phoneless
My experience going phoneless for 24 hours was refreshing. Every time I have had to go without my phone due to bad service, breaking it, or if its battery was low I did not mind. There are always a few moments where you may actually need it because someone needs to get a hold of you, but going phoneless on days where you have nothing important going on is a good way to completely take a break from life. I’m not big into social media which made it easier for me to give it up. I think the only thing I missed was easy accessibility I had to connect with my friends and family through facetime, txt, and calling. I definitely gained from the experience because I think it is always a good thing for us to unplug from our electronics and to really pay attention to the people and the world around us. I think because my day was busy I didn’t notice that the time was moving slower. I realized how much I check my phone for txts and the time throughout the day though. The first part of the day I realized it was a reflex for me to reach for my phone, but by the end of the day I got use to doing without it. I like to think I pick people over my phone. I definitely would not consider myself someone who is attached to their phone. I always put it away at parties or if I am with family and friends. I definitely noticed how attached our society is to their phone. It’s really sad actually because a lot of people use it as a security blanket. People would rather stare at their screen then say hello to a stranger sitting next to them on a bus or in class. I love going on vacation for this very reason. I typically tell my friends that I’ll be out of town, so they know to just contact me when I get back. Overall, I would say I would definitely do it again.

Jan. 25th First Draft Post:
My idea for this project is to discuss body image issues. I have the layout and the research completed. I just need to add the stats, quotes, and facts to enhance the point I am trying to make.

Assignment 9: Finalize Infographic Idea & Strategy
1. My project is titled “The Body of Christ”. My idea is based off of the various bible verses that state God wants us to be “One Body” and have “One place of worship”. I want to show how much division we have in the Christian religion in a way that will hopefully inspire people to work on building up the Body of Christ. I want to promote respect and love amongst all Christian denominations because it is something our generation deals greatly with.
2. My sources will come from a variety of places. Last semester I took an Intro To Christianity course where I learned about the many denominations, how they were started, and the differences in beliefs under the umbrella of Christianity. I will use the sources I studied in that class as well as online databases and church constitutions and doctrines.
3. I plan to gather my notes from the book I bought for my Christianity course and research reliable online sources. My plan is to create a pie chart by using the outline of the priest holding the Eucharist and to divide it into sections based on the percentage of people in each Christian denomination.
4. I’m hoping to gain a better perspective of what the Christian denomination looks like. I also want to display this in a way that shows each denominations strengths and weaknesses so everyone can see how we can learn from the other members of the Body of Christ.
5. Like I stated above, I want the Eucharist to be the center and the image I use to create the pie chart. I’m quite sure yet how to incorporate the idea of the denominations strengths and weakness, but I would like to use their logos to represent the denominations in their section of the pie chart.

Infographic Ideas- Assignment 7
1. Body Of Christ-
The idea for this info-graphic would be to show how many denominations make up the Christian religion. The idea is to show how divide the church has become since the beginning of the Church over 2000 years ago.
2. Alcohol Consumption Around The World-
This idea would depict how much alcohol is assumed around the world. I want to show the difference in how Americans verses other parts of the world view alcohol and how it effects our society and culture.
3. Facts About The State of Michigan-
This idea would use the image of the State of Michigan and to list facts about the states based on what city the facts related to. The state would be broken up into areas of significance.

Monster Project First Draft:
The concept I was going for was more of a “happy” monster. My monster also kind of took on the role of a superhero and could be considered a good monster. The idea behind this is that my monster has the ability to change the weather and seasons with her hair. I love nature and God’s creation so I wanted that to be the main idea behind my work. So far I have the 4 seasons represented and my head at the top represented the head of the monster. I still need to add things to my head and add on my hair which will weave around the pictures. My hair will be the source of where my power comes from, almost like in the Disney movie Tangled. I also have some images I want to add in order to give this project more of the collage and layered look.

TECH CULTURE POST- OPTION A: Sharing
I am doing my post on the Ted Talk by Steven Johnson called “Where Good Ideas Come From” and on Tumblr Content and Subscriber Content Terms of Service. The beauty of sharing you works-in-progress online has pros and cons. The benefits include input and ideas from outside sources that may help you further develop your idea, which Steven Johnson mentions in his talk when he says, “ideas are not a single thing...it is a network of ideas”. The down side to making your ideas public is that someone could steal your ideas or use them not for their intended purpose. You lose some control over where they go and how they are used once they are online, but sometimes the benefits outweigh the costs.
This has effected our culture in a negative and positive way. The liquid network we have created online has allowed our species to evolve at a faster pace than ever before. We have never had such a easy way of accessing such a numerous amount of ideas like we do today.
When we release unfinished ideas out to the public this opens doors for more minds to take part in the evolution of our ideas. The old adage that two heads are better than one stands true in this case. Sometimes others can see solutions and doors that we can’t because of life experiences or knowledge that we might not have. A downside to sharing the work is the possibility, as I stated earlier, of our work being taken over by someone else. Our ideas could also be used in ways that we disagree with.
There is no way to really prepare for the responses and feedback you will get online. You have to remember that you can’t control how other people respond but you can control how you respond. Everyone will have their opinions, but always remember to stay true to your morals and ethics, and your ideas will be ones that can be respected.

These flowers will also be apart of the spring representation. My superhero/ monster has the power to change the seasons on command. She is like mother nature in a way and in the final image the season are flowing from her hair.
