I dunno really, I just thought about how Sonic and Mabel are both blue hedgehogs, then I edited Sonic, then I just... Did the Underground siblings, and it continued from there. It’s also like... A fun exercise, I guess. Good for practice, and other people seem to really enjoy it. I’m glad. ^^

So, uhh… Let’s do Blaze. She’s somewhere in the ask box…

First I go to the Animal Crossing wiki and look for pictures of cat villagers.

Lots of kitties here.

So… Download a few of these images. I usually only download the ones that appeared in ACNL and Happy Home Designer since they are all physically similar and have the same style to them (I downloaded pictures of Monique, Kitty, and Merry). All of my images are small because they’re easier to work with, but feel free to use the higher quality larger images.

I’m doing this in Medibang Paint, but you could feasibly do this in any art program, probably. I don’t know, I haven’t tried, I only have this and an outdated version of Photoshop that I don’t like to use. Medibang Paint is a free download for all sorts of devices (PC, iPad, iPhone, Android) though, so knock yourselves out!

First, the head. I’ll only really do the head for this “tutorial” since the full body takes quite a lot of time, but just the head gets the point across.

Bam, head. Just… Delete her body. Her face isn’t right, clearly, but I used Monique for her pose, which is about it.

Gotta make the head more blank. Protect alpha is your friend, as well as the airbrush and blur tools. Clipping layers also help a lot.

I’ve turned her into Blanca.

Okay, so now there’s colors to worry about. For Blaze, we need to make this purple. Clipping layers are needed here.

Experiment with the layer settings. For this, multiply worked the best, but the insides of her ears still aren’t the right color. This may require some creativity.

So I erased the multiply layer bit on her ears, and now I’m gonna try to match Blaze’s peach color.

I ended up using two layers, one set to burn and one set to screen. Now I just merge all the clipping layers onto the head and continue on. It’s time for facial features.

Edited Kitty’s eyes with color and multiply layers, but w’re missing some things, like Blaze’s muzzle, mouth, and the little gem in her forehead, as well as her tuft of hair and fluffy bits on the sides of her head. These are unique things that aren’t present on any in-game villagers, so we have to draw them in ourselves. I’ll do them in order from least to most difficult, at least in my eyes.

The muzzle, with color and overlay layers. The nose is just a simple black dot, and the mouth is just a line. She looks very tired, honestly, but that’s a huge mood. The gem is reflective and requires you to think about where the light source is coming from, but it isn’t that hard. I also slightly blurred the edges of her eyes so they looked less sharp. Blur the edges of some things so they look more natural on the character.

Make the rough shape of what you’re going to draw in. 

Match the shading with the airbrush tool.

Optional: Use the stipple pen tool to give it a bit of texture, and her head hair tuft things are done.

The hair is a bit more of a complex shape, but the same concepts still apply. Now it’s blaze!

Add any extra details that you think would make it more authentic looking, and here we are! I hope this helped! Maybe y’all can try to make some of your own. Sorry I’ve been gone so long, school started and my motivation has been crap lately, so… Yeah. At least you have some lovely looking Blaze head now.

Sir Charles “Chuck” Hedgehog (チャールズ, Chāruzu?) is a character in the Animal Crossing series. He is Sonic, Manic, and Sonia’s uncle, and is almost like a second father to Sonic. He’s very friendly, treating nearly everyone like family, and loves to learn about the world around him. He’s an inventor, and specializes in robotics. He knows quite a lot about medicine and biology as well.

Chuck is a dull blue hedgehog with black eyes and a black nose. Like most other hedgehogs, he has no visible mouth, and so instead visibly talks by moving his nose. He has a large, white, bushy mustache and eyebrows as well, being somewhat elderly. He wears white gloves, red and gold striped sneakers similar to Sonic’s, and a red and gold striped scarf. He also has a head full of large, spiky bristles that will raise slightly when shocked. Despite it not matching his personality, he has the voice of a cranky villager.

When Chuck comes into town, he will be in the campground not only setting up his RV, but a small workstation near it. Inside the RV there are various shelves full of tools and strange devices, a modern couch, and a modern table with a laptop on it. If the player brings him certain things that could normally be donated to the Museum (fossils, bugs, and fish), he will gladly take them and reward them with bells. Occasionally, he can be seen speaking to Cyrus and Reese in Re-Tail, Blathers in the Museum, or Tortimer, whenever he’s in town. He will also sometimes watch Sonic, Manic, and Sonia preforming in the Plaza.

Sally Acorn (サリー・アコーン Sarī Akōn?), not to be confused with the two normal squirrel villagers who share the same name, is a character in the Animal Crossing series from some far away place. Her status as a princess isn’t very apparent, but she does have a strong sense of leadership. She’s an old friend of Sonic’s, and seems to view him almost like a younger sibling. Sonic, Tails, Bunnie, Antoine, Rotor, Nicole, Dulcy, and herself used to be part of a small Freedom Fighter group, but it’s unknown exactly when this was. Sonic and Tails left to explore, but the others are still together, and they meet up from time to time when trouble starts. Surprisingly, Tails will call her “Aunt Sally”, and he looks up to her in the same way he looks up to Sonic.

Sally is an orange-brown chipmunk, very similar in appearance to squirrels, with blue eyes and red hair that hangs down in front of her face. The fur around her eyes and muzzle is a golden yellow color, and she has three tufts of fur hanging from each cheek. The fur on her belly is the same color. She wears a blue sleeveless shirt that exposes part of her stomach, black and white shorts, white gloves with blue cuffs, and blue boots with white buckle designs on the top. She has the voice of an uchi villager.

Sally can be found outside, occasionally jogging alongside Sonic or on the beach. She can also be found in The Roost, Shampoodle, or the Museum. When spoken to while running around town, she’ll ask if the player wants to join her. If someone gets stung by bees, she’ll be very concerned and give them some medicine, then warn them to be careful when shaking the trees.

Antoine D’Coolette (アントワーヌ・ド・クーレッテ Antowānu do Kūrette?) is a character in the Animal Crossing series who’s happily married to Bunnie Rabbot. He tries to be brave and is very prideful, but the moment something goes wrong, he’s cowering behind the nearest person’s back, usually Bunnie or Sonic. Despite this, there are moments where he won’t hesitate to jump into action with his favorite sword. He likes to cook and is a very neat person; unnecessary clutter agitates him greatly. He’ll never admit it, but he enjoys being pet as well.

Antoine is a reddish-orange coyote with dark eyelids, black eyes, and a black nose. His muzzle, belly, and the insides of his ears are yellow. He has three tufts of fur hanging from each cheek, and neatly combed blond hair on his head. He wears two white sashes across his chest, a white belt with a red stripe and a metallic blue buckle, white gloves with red cuffs that have gold buttons on the sides, red boots with white buckle-shaped designs on the top, and occasionally carries a sword in its scabbard, hanging from his belt. He has the voice of a smug villager, and has a prominent French accent. He sometimes speaks in broken English or occasionally impossibly fast French when nervous or frightened, which is much more often than most villagers.

Antoine can be found outside, walking with Bunnie or gardening, planting and watering flowers with her. On his own, he may be seen inside The Roost, or simply walking by himself. Sometimes, he will shake trees, and if a beehive falls down, he will panic and try to hide behind nearby villagers. If no one is nearby, he ends up getting stung, and Bunnie will be taking care of his injuries later on in the Plaza. Rarely, he can be found running after Sonic, who will either be playfully teasing or encouraging him as they go along.

Just wanted to stop by and say that this is the cutest thing ever! I how all the characters were done so far, and Scourge, Sonia, and Manic were a pleasant surprise - though I'm wondering now whether Jules & Bernie or Aleena act as his parents. Now that Bunnie's done, will Antoine be next?

Most likely. He’s one of my favorite characters. I did Manic and Sonia because, well… Manic’s another favorite. I really like Scourge, too. Personally, I lump Bernie into Aleena’s personality, but I’m not sure about their dad. I’ll probably just make it Jules. I’m glad you’re enjoying this so far!

Bunnie Rabbot ( バニー ・ラボット Banī Rabotto?), not to be confused with the peppy rabbit villager of the same name, is a tomboyish cyborg rabbit. She’s married to Antoine D’Coolette and is quite tough. She also seems very fond of Sonic, Tails, and their other friends, acting as if she was their older sister. She’s very kind, but can pack a punch when she feels like it with her enhanced strength. It’s rumored that she once snapped a tree in two just by kicking it a bit too forcefully, but she won’t confirm nor deny it.

Bunnie is a tan rabbit with purple eyelids and a pale yellow patch of fur around her face. She has small tufts of fur hanging off her cheeks, and bangs hanging in front of her forehead. Unlike most rabbits, her left ear flops over instead of sticking straight up. Her left arm and the entire lower half of her body are bulky and robotic, being a metallic gray color. She wears a pink strapless top, a pale purple swimsuit bottom, and she will occasionally have pink bows tied around her ears. She has the voice of an uchi villager, and speaks with a southern drawl. She often addresses people as “sugah”, usually as some sort of prefix to their name or species; this is most apparent when she’s talking about Sonic or Antoine.

Bunnie can be found outside, walking with Antoine or gardening, planting and watering flowers. On her own, she may be seen inside Shampoodle, chatting with Harriet. She enjoys helping others, and will fix the player’s hair if it becomes messy after not playing for a while, or give them medicine if they get stung by bees.

Big ( ビッグ ー Biggu?) is a large cat, accompanied by a frog he affectionately named “Froggy” who seems to be his pet. Big is a bit of an enigma; it is unknown where he comes from, where he’ll go, or what he’s looking for. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is or what happens to be going on, Big is always fishing.

Big is a purple cat with yellow eyes, black pupils, long ears, and white fur on his cheeks and belly. The end of his tail splits into several tufts of fur at the tip. He wears dull yellow gloves, boots, and a belt with a gold ring for the buckle, and is always carrying a fishing rod. He’s very big compared to other villagers (hence his name), almost taller than bears. He has the voice of a lazy villager, and speaks very simply and slowly, almost like a child.

Big is always fishing, mostly in the river or holding ponds around town. He can even be seen at night, when most other villagers are asleep. He can also be seen in The Roost drinking coffee in the first hour it is open. Sometimes, he can be seen without Froggy on his head while fishing, and if the player interacts with him, he’ll pull Froggy out of the water and appear shocked before gleefully setting Froggy next to him.

Miles Prower (マイルス・パウアー Mairusu Pauā?), also known as Tails (テイルス Teirusu?), is a kitsune, or fox, in the Animal Crossing series. He’s the adopted little brother of Sonic, and he’s very intelligent for his age. He likes to build machines, program computers, and go on adventures with his friends. He tries his best to keep up with Sonic, and hopes he can be just like his heroic best friend someday.

Tails is a yellow kitsune/fox with black eyes and a black nose. There are three small tufts of hair coming off his forehead, and he possesses twin tails, which he can use to fly or propel himself forward by spinning them like helicopter blades. He wears red and white sneakers, white socks, and white gloves. He’s a bit small compared to other villagers, only a bit taller than a cub. Despite it being almost exclusively for girls, he has the same voice as a normal villager.

Tails is almost always seen following Sonic around town on weekdays from 7:00am to 5:00pm. He’ll ask to play hide and seek with the player when spoken to, with the reward for winning being a random piece of furniture from the Kiddie Series. If there’s a thunderstorm, he’ll be inside the train station, cowering behind Sonic in a corner. When the player tries to interact with him at this time, Sonic will shoo them away, then turn to comfort him, blocking any further attempts at talking to the fox. He can also be found talking to Cyrus in Re-Tail, happily watching him work and asking questions about his job.

Scourge (惨めな, Mijimena?) is a character in the Animal Crossing series, being almost the exact opposite of Sonic. He prefers to be alone, and it’s unknown if he has any living relatives. He calls himself a king, and is much more vulgar, rude, and narcissistic than nearly everyone else. He likes to cause fights for his own entertainment, usually with Sonic or his friends, and attempts to flirt with essentially any girl he sees. There’s a few exceptions to his bad behavior, but he’s rarely ever seen in those situations.

Scourge is a green hedgehog with black eyes and a black nose. Unlike most other hedgehogs, he has a wide mouth full of sharp, pointy teeth. He wears a black leather jacket with red and yellow flame patterns on the sleeves, green and black shoes with silver bands and buttons, and a pair of red sunglasses. He also has a head full of large, spiky bristles that will raise slightly when shocked, and two long scars on his chest, similar to the roman numeral II. He has the voice of a smug villager.

Scourge can be found basically anywhere, but is usually wandering around outside or on Main Street. He can sometimes be seen holding a bug net, but will randomly hit people from behind with it, then run away. He can also be found inside Re-Tail, the Town Hall, Able Sisters, Shampoodle, the Museum, or the Dream Suite, pestering the girls and yelling at anyone who tries to intervene. If the player manages to befriend him, though, he will begrudgingly listen to them, but not without grumbling angrily before leaving. Late at night, he may be found having coffee at The Roost, or even asleep at the table, talking to himself tiredly about how much he dislikes his father, or, surprisingly, flowers.

Sonia (ソニア, Sonia?) is a character in the Animal Crossing series, playing the keyboard for the traveling band Sonic Underground. The band consists of herself and her two siblings, Sonic and Manic. She’s both the tallest and oldest triplet, and she will give a CD that plays the Sonic Underground Theme when first spoken to. She tends to speak more formally than her brothers do, often getting mildly annoyed at them and their individual quirks.

Sonia is a bright magenta hedgehog with pink bangs, black eyes, and a black nose. Like her siblings and most other hedgehogs, she has no visible mouth, and so instead visibly talks by moving her nose. She wears a red tank top, dark purple skirt, knee pads, boots, and gloves, a gold belt, and a silver arc-shaped pendant. She also has a head full of large, spiky bristles, as well as a tuft of soft, pink hair between her ears. She has the voice of a snooty villager.

When Sonia isn’t in the Event Plaza with her family, she can be found inside Shampoodle, chatting with Harriet, shopping at Able Sisters, or drinking coffee at The Roost. She gets annoyed somewhat easily, and it’s usually in response to what her brothers are doing. Even though Sonic calls himself the leader, Sonia is the one who organizes the group and keeps them on track. Despite her short temper, she’s very kind and can offer emotional support when needed. She also likes to give advice to people regarding clothes, music, and hair styles.
