invincible and avatar: the last airbender are two shows that i adore, so naturally i thought to myself "how can i fit an airbender into the invincible universe?" and now i have my very own invincible oc!!

just a heads up, but i wouldn't exactly say any of this information is set in stone since i might be obsessed with some other tropes down the line that i would want to stuff into this character. with that out of the way, here's what i was thinking!

the gist of genesis' story is "what if she went through the same things as atom eve, but this time neither her mother or any of the scientists cared enough to save her?"

i imagine that instead of genesis' mother wanting genesis to have a normal life, she is fully onboard with the idea of her child becoming a weapon. whether she truly believes that she's doing the right thing by creating a weapon to protect her country, or she's just after fame or wealth or whatever, she is completely fine with her child growing up in a lab.

so genesis grows up in a lab. she's given the name "genesis" because she's the very first run of this experiment. while she's a baby and tests are being run on her on a near daily basis, that's when eve's mom is found and she’s involved in the experiment as well. yeah, they may already have a kid, but they found there are still areas they could improve on that would require another kid. i imagine that while Dr. Brandyworth develops a bond with eve's mom, it's also the reality of what genesis' life is going to look like that helps motivate him to save eve and give her a normal childhood.

then eve is born. the entire story of eve’s birth that was shown in the atom eve special happens, and while the team of scientists thinks eve is dead and Dr. Brandyworth is taken off the team, genesis is still growing up inside of a lab. they probably realize it would be safer if they take genesis to a separate lab to be trained while they continue their experiments, since it would probably be dangerous to keep a successful, growing weapon with the other experimental weapons.

so she's in an isolated lab with just her and a team of people whose goal is 1. to make sure she can control her powers and 2. make sure that she will always be loyal to them. i imagine that genesis' upbringing isn't necessarily downright torture, but it is definitely void of any actual love. they monitor her until she's about four years old, which is when she starts showing signs of having powers (this is kind of way earlier than atom eve, but i think it would make sense since everyone around genesis has been pushing her to unlock her powers while eve has had a normal childhood her whole life). but to everyone's surprise, the kid actually can't see and rearrange all matter without limits!

she can only see and rearrange oxygen atoms!

so great. this experiment is chalked up as a failure since this kid is only showing less than a fraction of the powers that they were aiming for. but then what do they do with this oxygen-controlling kid?

a few scientists entertain the idea of "peacefully putting her down" since it would be a waste of their limited money and resources training this defective weapon, but the other scientists who have at least some semblance of a heart argue against that pretty quickly. on one side, they argue that the kid still has powers and can still be used for their benefit as a weapon. on the other hand, though, they argue that there's no way their boss is going to settle for a weapon that can only control oxygen of all things, and that the second that word of this failure reaches him, he's going to order for the kid and all evidence of its existence to be terminated in possibly a much more painful way since their existence could blow their cover.

but maybe while this is happening, genesis catches wind of this conversation (pun intended). and while she's been fantasizing about escaping for a little bit, this is when it solidified in her mind that i need to leave or these people will kill me. so she tries to make her escape, except OH NO. these scientists obviously made plans for if genesis ever tried to escape, so now she's got the entire lab's defenses activating and now this little airbending kid has to evade all these adults who are trying to pin her down. she's doing surprisingly well until eventually she gets cornered in a room. one of the soldiers raises their gun, about to make the killing shot but then BOOM. the building is swarmed with GDA agents! the scientists are apprehended and genesis is taken to some GDA facility, and even though the corrupt experimentation that made genesis is shut down, they covered their tracks well enough for continued experimentation to occur elsewhere (just wanted to add this in so it makes sense how eve's siblings were still made and the experiments were still running during the atom eve special).

so this takes me to the next idea i had for genesis! that even though she was given powers and grew up in a lab until she was four years old, she was actually raised by the department for superhero children that the GDA apparently has according to cecil. i thought it would be an interesting perspective to add where a superhero was actually raised by the GDA and actually has an overall positive view of them, especially in comparison to the OTHER lab that she grew up in. but then she has to face the fact that her perspective is a bit misguided, since her friends would probably point out that the GDA is essentially still making her into a weapon but instead of using the word "weapon" they just call her a "superhero." she was also probably manipulated into doing what the GDA wants since the GDA has provided her with the bare minimum amount of "love" that a growing kid requires, and since genesis hasn't experienced anything better, she thinks that the GDA really does care for and look out for her unlike the scientists at her previous lab.

and that brings me to another aspect i wanted to explore: genesis seeing cecil as a father figure/mentor! i see that people have explored this dynamic especially with rex, so i wanted to go a little further with my oc. she definitely gets that cecil is a hardened government guy with a job to do, but i think she genuinely looks up to and respects him to at least some degree because she sees how he always values human lives and is willing to make the tough decisions for the greater good, even if that means being hated by everyone around him. and even though some people might argue that genesis is just another tool to him, i think cecil would also respect genesis for overcoming her past and using her powers to save people, and also for being good at taking orders since she always trusts that the decisions he makes are for the greater good. i think it would be fun to see a superhero character treating cecil more like a dad than a government figure, and cecil treating a superhero like his kid and having a bit of a soft spot for her since he watched her grow up and gain control over her powers for the majority of her life.

so that's my oc :) like i said before practically all of this is subject to change, but as of now i'm pretty satisfied with how she's shaping up. i also haven't really thought of how she would interact with other characters like mark and the guardians and especially eve herself, since i have no clue if she would even know that eve is the superhero that she was always meant to be. who knows! all i know is i had so much fun designing her and thinking of her story and i'm really excited she exists now!
