Dean never really cared too much about love, he was always on the go anyways with all of the hunts that he and Sam did. And now with Sam going to take on Lucifer head on, he gave no shits about it. But, something in the back of his head was telling him differently, and it was about a certain half-ass angel; Castiel.

Castiel had been there for him, ever since he pulled him out of hell. His hand mark on his shoulder signified how strong their bond was, and in Cas’s words, it was a very “profound bond.” Dean just never thought it would become something more, at least to him. He wasn’t sure how the angel felt, however, because as far as he knew angels didn’t understand human emotions. Boy, was he wrong.

The night they brought Sam to meet with Lucifer, well, Dean was a complete nervous wreck. On the inside anyways. Of course he would be worried about his baby brother literally giving himself to the devil, The promise he made to Sam, he wasn’t sure he could keep it. Having an apple pie life with Lisa and Ben sounded amazing to Dean, sure, but in reality, hunting was his life. Both the boys grew up into hunting, so it would be obvious that he couldn’t keep the promise for too long. Plus, with his feelings about Cas, he didn’t know if he’d do it at all.

Though, as it turns out, Cas did like him back. The feeling Dean got when he heard that was an amazing feeling, the angel of his dreams liked him, and that’s all that mattered to him then. Well, that and getting his brother back from Hell somehow. 

The way Dean found out that Castiel had liked him, he thought it was pretty funny. He and Cas had gotten themselves into a conversation about Jessica, Sam’s old girlfriend, and about how much Sam loved her. Cas had asked about how to tell if you’re truly in love with someone, and Dean had gave him the good old “you feel it in your heart” saying. And, sure enough, Cas had confessed right then and there. Now Dean couldn’t be happier, well, besides trying to get his brother back.
