CarCar Fic Ideas
I need a fic (a drabble would do) wherein Carlos is mourning the loss of Oscar's long hair like the dramatic Spanish that he is. Someone, please write this. (Carlos is all sulky about it as Oscar rolls his eyes at him. Carlos then uno reverses it back to him when Oscar is the one sulking when Carlos tries to cut/wax/shave his hair).
In light of recent events, Oscar was seen wearing a polo during a cricket match. Carlos gifts Oscar a polo with his Oscar's initials embroidered (like Carlos!). If they are together - Oscar takes it as a sign that they are in for the long run (fluff ensues). If they are in a situationship - Oscar may find it weird or make him question what they really are.
Oscar in the EG video of them translating Spanish to English phrases. It reminds me of that certain Modern Family clip of Gloria trying to make Manny learn Spanish. Oscar is secretly learning Spanish for Carlos - taking notes of the accidental Spanish words/phrases that Carlos drops on him. On the other hand, Carlos tries to teach Oscar, but then Oscar teases him by being nonchalant about it. Taking it further by saying that he'd rather learn French. The EG video has been launched, and Carlos is surprised and sappy about it.

In the town of Fioriano, a buzz of activity begins anew. Races have been done, but there is still space for one more. One more run and one more goodbye. Mechanics and engineers in red dust off the red cars of 2022 as father and son take the track. The father goes first as if he has led the son to love the sport from birth. The son next driving in red in a car that gave him his first win. Then they drove together as they have done so for decades. The father witnessed his son drive in red four years ago, and now he is driving with him to close the chapter.

Carlos now goes on to ride the classic Ferrari and drive the Italian track that made his childhood dream come true for one last time. He waves at the fans who have traveled far and wide to witness this bittersweet goodbye. It's a momentous occasion to see him ride a classic, but it's also a sad moment because it might take a while for him to return and bleed again for Rosa Corsa. No tears were shed, only smiles and contentment as the day ended. Slowly, people from the factory, whom he called his family, came trickling on the track. He bids his thanks and goodbyes. And for one last time, he, beside his father, takes a photo of the red car, his family, and the track that has witnessed his growth for the past years.

One more thing before he goes, he stops by all the Tifosi who have waited for him. What's a few more minutes when they have been with him for years and years through the highs and the lows? He thanks them.
"Sempre"
If that doesn't count then he hopes that his dedication to the team - to them, is enough to convey his thanks for being with him. He bids goodbye and maybe see you later.

carlos on the anger of being replaced at ferrari, forgiving, forgetting and understanding
You talk about the shock of that news; was there ever anger?
For sure, I could sit here and say, 'No I wasn't angry with anyone,' but at the time when they give you this news, you're angry, you don't understand it, you curse, you don't understand anything that has happened to you, and obviously you think everything in your life is terrible. But then time cures everything, and you start to accept certain things, and you try to see everything with more of a relative mind, and you start to comprehend and to just adapt and forgive and forget and get on with life - just get on with it. I remember I kept telling myself, 'Just get on with it' and 'Just do your thing.' It's something you need to see more relative as time goes by.
Forgive, forget, do you now understand?
A hundred percent, I think I understood it almost right from the beginning. I think if it had been someone else, I would've taken a lot longer to understand. But when you understand Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion, one of the best, if not the best, in history, is gonna replace you at Ferrari, and Lewis has decided to do the last part of his career at Ferrari and you need to be one of the two drivers sacrificed for that to happen, I understand.
I also understand it was never gonna be Charles. Charles has been the project of Ferrari ever since he's been a junior driver. He's been the centre of the project for many years. I arrived to Ferrari more as a substitute of Vettel ... obviously earning my place, but circumstantial rather than Charles, who has been there forever. So I understood; I had to be the one being replaced. I understood it from the beginning, I just obviously didn't agree so much at the time; but you end up agreeing, and you end up getting on with it.
Are you leaving on good terms?
Yes, a hundred percent. Even with Fred, with John Elkann, with everyone involved in that decision. They called me, and I expressed my feelings about it.
Did you tell them what you really thought?
Yeah, of course, with those things I've never backed off; you know, I've always said 'This is what I think.' The same way I told them I understood it, and I explained, obviously, my feelings ... I told them what I thought and moved on and promised them I was gonna give my absolute best for Ferrari even though all this has happened in the last year, and I was gonna keep proving to them that I'm still a big asset for Ferrari. That's what I've been focusing on doing ever since.

This article is posted two races before he departs from Ferrari. Carlos tells the story of his first time riding the infamous Rossa Corsa car, his camaraderie with Charles, his past teammates (I was slightly disappointed that Hulkenburg was not mentioned), and Hamilton.
-----
Reading the translation of the article got me all melancholic and teary-eyed.
As Carlos fans, we might hate that red team, but Carlos loved it so much that he bled for the team much more than necessary without asking for anything in return. It was and is still his childhood dream. We might be excited about his move to Williams, but you can't help but feel for him. He might leave, but he will forever be a Ferrarista.
We, though, will follow and support Carlos wherever he goes.

It’s probably because it was already past midnight and everyone was dead tired after this weekend, don’t forget the sessions this weekend were horribly late at night. Plus Carlos himself said no one’s happy with p3 and p4 bc they were expecting to challenge for the win, not be behind two mercs…
It may have been past midnight, but that didn't stop the celebrations in Max's garage and Mercedes's. A win is a win. I don't think being unhappy with their place warrants the cancellation of a group picture. Notice that even the traditional fire extinguisher pic of Team 55 is not even posted.

I know the team is unsatisfied with the results and how they handled the strategy yesterday. Carlos got P3 (he got P4), so genuine question - shouldn't there be a team picture of the team in front of the garage with the pit board or at least in front of their motorhome? They're usually quick to post those, but now it's utter silence.

Something to Prove and Nothing to Lose

Ricky: YES YES YES! This is a masterclass, Carlos, good job!
Carlos: Yes! Yes! Thank you! Ahh, this feels so good! Forza Ferrari!
It was the perfect weekend. It is the ideal weekend.
He had been feeling it since the end of the month-long break. This uphill climb in 2024 is the hardest thing he has fought in his racing career, losing a seat to a seven-time world champion, scrambling on his feet to get back up and find a team that will welcome him with open arms (a top team is a bonus), where he could find a new home. With the second break coming to an end. He started to feel it. He can feel it thrumming in his veins.
He felt it at COTA. He had it on hand. First, on FP1, Sprint Qualifying could have gone better, but he gritted his teeth, taking in on every opportunity. Ultimately, it was P2, which was good but not good enough. Qualifying felt good until a red flag aborted his run, which could have been pole. He had a good start, but the squabble between Max and Lando caught him in a bind, which was not the same with Charles, who got away smoothly and led laps to victory while he ended in P2. He always said he wanted another win before leaving Ferrari in his interviews. Time is running out with six races left, and he is P2. Frustrated, he could have done better but was a victim of circumstance. The racing gods whispering in his head - No, not yet.
The celebration of the team in their motorhome felt like the start of a goodbye. Maybe this is what it all could be - a podium but never a win. So he tried to soak it all up, disappointment emanating from every pore in his body but trying to be happy because he would not be a person to rob off a good celebration for a team, the team that he has bled red for ever since his childhood dream team opened its door to him, much less a teammate that he considers a good friend and a good motivator to be better.
We will go and start again is his mantra.
Mexico is always a lively affair with all the pomp and circumstance. He never finished on the podium in this circuit, but the free practices felt promising, placing him in the top 3 every time. Qualifying was nerve-wracking in Q1 and Q3, but something clicked in Q3, and he got two lap times that ensured him pole position on both occasions. He savors the high, the adrenaline rushing through him. He is giggly and all joyous, as if he is already on the podium. Everything felt right. A thought ran through his head - Is this my time? Asking the voice in his head, which denied him COTA. No one answered.
It’s lights out, and away we go.
He is off to a good start, but Max is even better. He tried his darndest to defend, but Max got the upper hand; he had nothing to lose now, but crashing was not an option, so he chose to run to the grass and give back the position. Is this your answer to my question? He asks again. A safety car allowed him to be closer to Max, but it was only until lap 9 that he decided to take charge. Damned be the racing gods, he will take charge. He overtakes Max, but Max isn’t going down without a fight. But by the skin of his teeth, he takes the lead and defends the overtake. He manages his tires, looking for every variable that could go wrong. He won’t be comfortable until he crosses the checkered flag. He has hunted, and the 19 drivers behind him will hunt him down to take his place if a sliver of opportunity arises. As lap 71 nears, he grows more and more confident. He knows Lando is catching up with the gap closing into 4 seconds, but he knows that the laps will not be enough to catch him. It's the last lap; he aims to go to their side once he sees the pit wall. He spots a pit board and the people in red climbing the fence, raising their fists and yelling, never mind that the roar of the engines drowns out their voices. He crosses the checkered flag, and his mind blanks for a second. He did it. He did it.
HE FUCKING DID IT.
He hears Ricky's radio, and he answers on autopilot. Thanking Ferrari, thanking the team that let him bleed red even if it left him feeling nothing, for letting him walk through the doors of history, of legacy. He parks his car in front of the P1 sign board, and it takes him a second to process what happened. He gets out of the car, and there is something in the crowd's layout that feels like this win was just made for him. The mechanics pull him into a hug, and he hugs them just as fiercely, hoping his hold conveys his gratitude to them.
It was tradition for the winner to wear a sombrero while being lifted off the platform; he just wanted something simple for all the fanfare he had gone through this weekend. He opts out of the sombrero and just holds his helmet because it all boils down to this: he and his car. He raises his helmet to the crowd, pointing at his number, and takes in the crowd once more. Once the Spanish National Anthem plays out, everything comes to a head: the euphoria of the win in front of the Mexican crowd and his family on the audience, the tiredness from the season that has brought him, and the bittersweet feeling of what would have been. Before he knows it, he feels a prickle in his eyes and cheeks.
Oh.
He is crying.
The Italian anthem plays next when he hears a voice in his head. You did it. Your time has finally come once more.
He took charge and the racing gods granted his wish; he waited, and he finally had it.

Incheresting 🤔
Alex doesn't know much about his new neighbour and teammate yet, but he knows one thing almost certainly — Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri are not very good friends.
And yet, he opens his door in the morning just as the apartment across from him does the same, and before he can think of saying good morning to Carlos, it's Oscar who appears.

"They decided to sack him at the start of the year and no racing driver ever, and I've been racking my brain to think about it, has ever been put in that position of having to be the full team player. All the support, winning races, getting podium finishes, great seconds, whatever and knows that he's lost the drive at the end of the year, regardless of what he does..."
"In a sporting ethics way it's a really, really tough thing to do that. Absolute 100% respect to Carlos for the way he's handling it with the smile, they way he works with the team, just absolutely brilliant."
Now I'm just sad all over again.

At that moment, Carlos stayed still, his hands holding onto the signboard, which says his name with P2 beside it. Charles ran off the moment Fred appeared with the champagne. He avoided it by turning his cheek away from the sprays but stayed still. He looked at the team's delighted faces, which he called calls his family. It may be his expression (but how did they know he is still known as that guy who is lightly brushed by melancholy) because everyone was patting him and praising him for doing a stellar job throughout the weekend. He nodded and smiled in response, saying a small thanks to everyone who made eye contact with him, but as this happened, he still stayed. Soaking in the pats on the back, the greetings, the champagne settling, which started to stick to his skin. He looked around, memorizing every detail that his eyes could reach and see. He wanted this moment to last. It may be his last for a while, so he stayed still.
#carlos sainz#austin gp 2024#i'm so proud#he cooked the entire weekend#he said that this weekend maybe the best weekend to achieve a win before leaving ferrari but life happened#let me hug you carlos#carlos 'lightly brushed by melancholy' sainz#this is me projecting the bittersweet feeling that I felt while watching the video to Carlos
