my story here is besides the point of ads and leaning more into profits, but recently in brazil they are trying to pass a law about child protection and safety on the internet, where social media companies would have to monitor the kind of public that are receiving children's contents and immediately report to national authorities if they spot any pedos, block content that portrays children in any abusing way, especially sexually and/or provide functional ways for people to report content or people that are violating children's rights.

the biggest fight that the country is having about this? social media companies are trying to draw back because of profit, and the united states (where a lot of those social media companies originally come from) is calling brazil's ways "censoring and dictatorship like", as said by the orange fuckbrow man

companies do not care and will never care about children and we have to stop pretending they do

children means profit, and the exploration of children and defense of pedophiles means profit and they will hold onto that for as long as possible

protecting children will make them lose money, and they'd rather have the pedos in their platforms than protect the children

it was never and it will not be about being "kid-friendly", it is about being "ad-friendly"

corporations and governments are to blame

I really think we should stop saying "kid-friendly" and start saying "ad-friendly". We shouldn't indulge these companies and their excuses anymore. I also think that continuing to pretend that this is about "protecting the children" pushes a lot of the blame onto kids and teens, who don't have the political power to push through any of this censorship legislature. Corporations and governments are to blame.
