Monet Week Day 7: AU

The first (and almost definitely not last) drawing for my Lawyer AU.

Monet is a defence lawyer who exclusively represents the legal affairs of the Doflamingo Corporation, which regularly comes under fire for it’s various human right abuses.

Monet is known to be merciless, vicious and cruel in court, even using a few not so legal methods to intimidate the opposition, make witnesses testify in a way that is beneficial to her case, or persuade the jury to vote in a way they might not have under other circumstances, although she has never been caught doing this, and she assures you that these claims are just rumours. In fact she’s so ruthless that she has earned the nickname “The harpy”

I think my absolute favorite thing about Monet Week was all of the love I saw for a character that many people seem to vehemently hate

I frequently find myself getting depressed because of all of the negativity I see directed towards Monet on forums, so seeing all of these folks band together to create tribute for her is comforting, heartwarming, and inspiring

In the event she never comes back, this past week of amazing fan content will likely prove a great way of reconciling with that fact; even if she’s really gone, she is far from forgotten, and most certainly not unloved

I still want her back, but knowing I won’t be alone with my feelings in any scenario is extremely reassuring

Monet week: Day 4 -  Color!Monet Monet’s color palette is mostly green and orange, switch those colors! Or, if you like, you can revamp her color palette all together.

@monetweek Day 6, Favorite Attack

Law has trouble sleeping, so Monet provides an Icy Hug to help him out

Honestly I never thought Monet was trying to actually hurt Luffy with this attack, I just thought she was trying to keep him from being a nuisance anymore. Plus, according to her, drifting off to sleep in her wings feels good, so it seems like a pretty kind attack to me.

I guess this one works for yesterday’s prompt too, but I wanted to save it for today because of the hugging. I was originally going to have her hugging me, because I want to be embraced by the bird-woman, but that seemed self-indulgent and skeevy, so Law it is.

Again, hands and feet are difficult, but I’ve also learned that sleeping faces are hard to pull off effectively. Law barely looks like Law here.

Wait, I just realized that both feet are drawn the same way and it’s unclear which is which…Oops. It’s probably fine, neither necessarily looks like one side or the other.

AU where Monet joins the Straw Hats instead of making fans agonize about the possibility she’s never coming back, and also she got her human limbs back for some reason

I was going to go for something funny for this one, but I felt that the end of Monet Week had to be something grand that pushed my limits like nothing else I’ve worked on so far has. 

Symmetry is incredibly aggravating, and I’ve found a new dimension of having trouble drawing hair, not to mention trying to draw feet from behind.

Overall, though, I’m incredibly proud of this one, and the only thing I wish I’d done different is that I wanted to put Luffy on the Sunny’s nose, but I was afraid to experiment with drawing a person so small just yet. If I ever redo this one, I’m definitely adding that in.

Compared to how I started this week, I think this is an incredible improvement, not only in my artistic ability, but in my confidence as an artist and my willingness to experiment. I’m really glad that I chose to participate in this event. Thank you @liskosaurus for setting this up, and thank you to all of the artists who participated and inspired me to get better each day. But most of all, thank you to everyone who liked, reblogged, or commented on my art. Nothing was more motivating or inspirational than that, and I couldn’t have gotten this far without that. Thank you all.
