“Hold your horses, Gon. Angry at you? No way. Look, don't worry--Kurapika's fine, you know how that guy can be sometimes. And yeah, he's pretty busy as usual, with the new Zodiac job and everything. Was there something you wanted to tell him?”

“Gon...” Brows furrowing into an worried expression, Leorio turned to look at his friend. Gon was visibly upset again--and really, nobody could blame him for it. At the very least, Leorio would make sure of that in the end, no matter what. So he had to smile for now. “No. I've got the written document of everything. What they noticed, recorded--it's all in there. So we won't have to do that. Don't worry.” He ended, patting Gon's shoulder firmly. Leorio knew that he was trying hard, and was just as determined, if not more, than him. And as he listened to Gon's input...

Huh. Here we go.

“It's pretty far from here. And really? I see. Well, I was figuring that he mentioned it to you, one way or another...” Leorio followed suit, also crossing his arms in thought. Then he slowly nodded. “......Yeah. Nobody's gonna forget those cases, that's for sure. Talk about secretive, though. But it does make sense. It's nearly impossible for you to get pass the media these days, especially if you're that well known.”

And Kaito? He was probably more than just annoyed with everyone, Leorio figured. From the sounds of it, the famous spirit medium was a man of secrets. Or was it something simplier--maybe he just didn't like huge attention. Leorio almost sighed, thinking to himself. Geez, that'd be too damn relatable. Back to the article again, he started speculating, Gon doing the same. NGL. NGL and... spirit medium training? While he didn't know a whole lot about the second part, there did seem to be a connection. Gon would probably feel that way too--well, if he knew where NGL was and everything. Time to fill him in. And right, a bit of research wouldn't hurt, either.

“Sure, but it's not like anybody really knows much, aside from what we hear from the outside. NGL--short for Neo-Green Life--is a really closed off nation. It's definitely not the kind of place you'd be touring for fun, if you're the average person. They don't use modern technology, like we do--it's all natural there, more than Whale Island. And if you do visit, you're not allowed to bring modern stuff in. We'd be saying goodbye to our cellphones, for one. Speaking of that... here it is.” Taking his phone out, Leorio quickly pulled up a world map on the screen, pointing out where NGL was. “It's pretty different....”

The young attorney fell silent. What was this, his sudden investigation sixth sense at work or something? Did he really have any? It was nothing but a hunch, right? Regardless, Leorio just couldn't shake the feelings. To find such a weird article (one that neither him nor Gon could even remember seeing or placing in the office) in an even stranger, almost blatantly obvious place, but hidden enough at the same time... it didn't feel like a coincidence. The article itself was in fair condition too, compared to the rest of the papers in the room. Or, just about anything. “It's definitely weird... I say, we look into anything NGL spirit medium training related.” 

     Maybe someone had tampered with things after all.

A Stupidly Ghostly Drabble;

"Wha--" A flicker of surprise appeared on his face, gone in almost an instant. This was just great, more embarrassing attention. So with hands shoved in pockets, Leorio was, predictably, back to glaring again. Still... what happened is what happened, right?

Hmph.

"Look, old man. I just happened to pass by at the right time. The traffic's about damn crazy these days and, y'know--nobody bothers to keep an eye out. It's that simple."

Now waiting for a response wasn't exactly hard, but he got none at all.

"O-Oi, what the hell is this? Could've sworn somebody was talking to me..." or making fun of him. Whatever. In any case, that sudden shiver up his spine sure wasn't helping, nor was the intense chill in the air since it's late November.

Not that he'd ever understand. But apparently, Santa did. Since he was watching, he knew things he really shouldn't have, like all the stupid details about every single person on earth--to this day. Foreverrrrrr. And it will continue on, he will never stop knowing. That is... whoever he really is. If you really believe in Santa, then it's easy to explain. But what if you don't? Who can know. Perhaps Leorio was lucky to cross paths with--

It wasn't just Gon. Leorio too--even on their way to the office, the young attorney found himself wrecking his brain for answers. Any ideas would work, wouldn't they? He had to start somewhere. Yet, there were so many questions. The killer's motive, their identity... and why was Kaito even at his office that night? Rather, how? It wasn't the first time Leorio wondered these things--but no matter how long he pondered over them, there was nothing. No solutions since the first day. And now that they were standing right here, he suddenly wondered: without the window, would this have been some locked room murder? That would be tough for a first case, if anything. Actually, everything about this was abnormal...

No, wait. Forget it. He couldn't give up. It was time to start thinking from the beginning. Rushing wouldn't help anything, especially not now. At this point, they'd take theories step by step. Indeed--somehow, Gon's prompt had helped him concentrate his mind. All for the better.

“What I think? Well, there's the autopsy we should go over for details, first...” Inevitably, he'd start with the thing right in front of him. Leorio really wanted to have another look at the room and start theorizing already, but it had caught his eye--one piece of paper (which he was still thinking twice about moving around, crime scene and all). However...

“This.... It's a newspaper clipping...” and he was already feeling disbelief. Of course it wasn't hard evidence, nor was it a last note from Kaito (though, something crazy like that could easily blend in with these scattered papers). Instead, this was a recent article on Kaito, dated a little more than a year ago. There was even a picture of him. Was it uncanny that they found something else related to the victim so quickly? Maybe, but that didn't seem like the whole reason. Alright, this seems important. Gon's curious too. Furrowing his brows, Leorio decided to pick it up after all. Right--he couldn't remember reading, or even having this at all. Maybe he'd missed it? But on top of that, there was a peculiar part written in it. He read the following out loud:

'Spirit Medium's Training in NGL Ends Early'

 Date: August xx, 20xx

-- Due to ongoing circumstances, the country has not made any changes to their selective tourist policy. Kaito's trip had been confirmed as a one-time special case. The veteran has returned from NGL four months earlier than planned. As to his reasons, he has stated, "for the sake of a personal investigation." --

Didn't know he was that famous...

“Huh. Interesting... I guess this must've been scattered around like everything else here...” but it wasn't shedding any light on their case, not that Leorio expected it to. He just couldn't see a connection. Maybe it was time to go back and discuss the autopsy and theories. But, just to make sure, he'd ask. Hand on his chin in thought, Leorio turned to face Gon. “...Can't help but wonder what he was up to after that. You know anything about this, Gon?”
