The Future of the Blog?

I'm not really sure. I'm really upset with tumblr for its AI partnership, even if the opt out process completely works and all the user data hasn't already been gathered for sale, it's a shitty position for a blog platform to take.

I marked all my stuff as private, for the moment, and will think on what further to do, whether completely leaving, posting text updates, or fully returning. I have a general pillowfort, not tarot specific, that I use infrequently, but maybe more often now?? There IS a bunch of NSFW art to greet you there at the moment though. And I also have a bluesky that is pretty SFW, though has no tarot art on it. Username Japanne on both platforms.

I also have an etsy that has some tarot stickers at the moment, and might have some individual card test prints as bookmarks in the future. Username ninniku for that.

Tell me about my future

An incomplete deck's reading.

Tomorrow, if you are tempted with a decision that takes you off your normal path, you should take it. It might not be easy, but it could be rewarding.

Next week, you will be at conflict with someone who has lots of rules and permissions to follow and give, but you will not want to submit to that. It will be difficult to go against.

Next month, there will be a reaping for what has been sown. If you have been working toward good things, then you will have them. If you have been undermining others, you may find the ground beneath you is undermined in turn.

Hey, I just want you guys to know, there will be more cards.  COVID happened and sapped my card making energy, I guess.  And then last year I started making a year long xmas present, and that is ALMOST done.  But it has taken up almost every free moment of art time I’ve had.  When I am done with it, I am really looking forward to getting back into these, you don’t even know.

Rejected Card Designs

For fun!  Sometimes during card creation things come to my attention or I look something up and realized I’ve gotten it wrong and have to scrap what i was doing or heavily rework it.

Image 1 is an old Four of swords.  When the sun crosses the sky it might turn into a jaguar as it moves through the earth to come out the other side, but the one book I had with an explanation seemed untrustworthy or maybe just really outdated, and I couldn’t find anything with a little more meaning, or to back up what I was reading, so I moved away from it just in case it was wrong.

Image 2 was going to be 8 of swords featuring the Ahuizotl, but I just felt like it was too gruesome to show this poor dude being drowned, so I also moved away from that one.

Image 3 is the old Grootslang, and the most painful of my mess ups.  It is 100% completed, as you can see, but when I was double checking my info on where it came from, I noticed the legend SPECIFIES that its treasure is made of DIAMONDS.   DIAMONDS.  NOT GOLD.  So I spend many hours recoloring and redoing the lines of the treasure pile to make everything look like diamonds.

Image 4 was supposed to be this horse headed Indian creature, a Gandarva, but when I was almost finished, I double checked somewhere else and it said they were ONLY MEN.  I didn’t want two Indian guys in a row though, since it comes right after the 10 of cups, and I really wanted the page to be a lady, so I switched her out.

Two of Gems - Karasu Tengu

The tengu is a Japanese monster that haunts its mountains.  They are known for being skilled warriors and also as tricksters.  Skill and trickery take a lot of coordination, so he’s a good fit for the card of juggling tasks and adaptability

Oh maaaaan, you guys.  Prisma Visions is MY FAVORITE tarot deck right now, and the guy came out with a second one!!!  I’m definitely gonna get it.

Speaking of, how many decks do you own???  

I’m up to 20, with 2 on preorder and one I intend to pick up when it becomes available.

I’ve been following this tarot deck’s progress for awhile and am EXCITED for it!

Coming to Kickstarter August 15th. The Lubanko Tarot: A 78-card, fully-illustrated tarot deck of the surreal, the subconscious, and the intense. – It’s happening! The card art is done. It is time to launch. The machinations are underway for an August Kickstarter for my tarot deck.I am so thankful for the kindness and support I’ve received on this journey. It’s been many years of doing my best to make the most sincere and intense project of my life, and it’s finally coming to a head. I could not have done this to this degree without all of you being here with your encouragement and your kind words. I’ve been doing the logistics for this for a while, but now comes the marathon-to-sprint of getting everything together formally for the Kickstarter. In the next couple of months, I am going to be rolling out more details as I know them.This has been 6+ years in the making, and I cannot wait to share it with you all. I may ask you in the next coming months: if you are interested in seeing this made, tell your friends! Tell your networks. Tell someone who you think would be helped or warmed by this art. Ten of Gems - Dragon King

There are dragon kings in a lot of East Asian cultures.  They live in crystal palaces at the bottom of oceans. Sometimes one for each of the cardinal directions.  One story from Korea I read mentioned one that had children, and one of his daughters turned human and left with a hero to marry him as a reward.  So the dragon king here wears his jewels, sharing them with his children.
