DM has no habit of thinking about anything other than his missions lmao. Anyways, it's worth noting that due to the fact that DM has no self-reflection about him, Penfold, and their relationship, it turns out badly for both sides when they face the consequences of such an attitude.

But one detail, which is voiced by the Blood Cells Leader, reveals a little more about this connection. Penfold is a necessity for him, thanks to which DM can be himself without worrying about other things. That is, the hero, the essence of his personality(Although yes, there's also lying around ego, perfectionism and purple—)

They really complement each other with who they are. But at the same time, Penfold himself would have wanted to be more recognized, and he even had his potential, as shown in the episode about the time machine, if DM hadn't dragged him to his secret agency. Where he's not really taken seriously, however he stays and got what he needed sometimes, sooo I can see the vision why to ship them, just well! I agree with everything that was written by @lousirs I think the same 😤😤

i think i'll mainly be talking about the reboot, cause although i've watched the classic a while ago, the episodes sort of blend together so i can't pinpoint moments... also i think their dynamic is more widely explored in the reboot. in the classic it's quite simple: penfold is the cowardly assistant who doesn't want to be there, and dm does most of the work. and sometimes they say rude things to each other and penfold drops a car on dm. ya know, the usual.

also, this won't be a structured ramble, i'll just be bringing up things that irk me about the duo from memory.

license to care (season 2, episode 33)

i think this episode is the biggest example for me personally. the episode starts of with penfold being justifiably annoyed that dm forgot his birthday.

and he has been forgetting his birthday for years now. they are meant to be bffs in the show (heck, implied spouses!), and you'd think, even despite dm never catching a break, that he'd at least know it was penfold's (his bff and his assistant for YEARS) birthday?

(it's been a while since i've seen this episode so i'm slowly going through it and DM KNEW WHAT TO GET PENFOLD AND DIDN'T GET HIM IT???)

anyways. professor uses some experimental empathy spray on this god forsaken rodent and he finally celebrates penfold's birthday, and do what penfold enjoys doing. ...and this is the first time (and i think the only time) i've seen dm so exhausted in the reboot.

he is usually bouncing off the walls, but here he is exhausted to do the things penfold enjoys, even despite the empathy spray. he just does not enjoy it.

episode continues, blah blah blah spray wore off blah blah blah baron doing evil stuff. and as dm and penfold are heading on over, they start arguing again, and penfold sprays dm with the empathy spray.

involuntarily and suddenly. i don't even know how he got that can- if professor gave it to him or if he stole it. look at penfold's expression; he's very happy to be doing this, despite dm not wanting it at all, even putting his hand up to try and block it. he is involuntarily forcing dm to act in a way he just isn't, just because they had a little argument. kinda fucked ngl. and penfold doesn't even regret doing it. he just regrets over-spraying him. is dm a jackass? yeah, but that doesn't mean you can force him to act in a way that pleases you.

the hamster effect (season 1, episode 26)

soooo basically brunel changes history so that dm and penfold never met, and dm immediately wakes up to his eyepatch being uncharged, and clothes and leftover food piled everywhere. and throughout the episode, dm keeps calling penfold his "assistant" (he says "friend" around the end but he says assistant more)

you'd think if you lost your bff, you'd be trying to get them back through saying you were best friends and how much you care about them, but he just says assistant. and then goes on to list what chores penfold usually does. obviously this alternative penfold does not want that sort of life, but dm forces it upon him. cause homeboy wants a housewife i guess lmao.

and when things are back to normal, penfold has dm's car ready and the eyepatch is charged, and dm seems more glad to have penfold back because penfold has everything ready and organised for him, rather than being glad to have penfold back because... they're friends?

there's something about scarlett (season 2, episode 16)

just on a side note: despite scarlett basically just being there to be penfold's love interest, she is honestly more compatible with penfold and i find their relationship cheesy and wholesome. they're sweet in this episode, leave me alone *sobbing and running away*

ANYWAYS there's just one moment i'd like to talk about here, and it's when scarlett is confiding in dm. everyone has been trying to be her boyfriend, and she's very overwhelmed. and penfold was acting weird too, thanks to dm's influence.

dm tries to explain to her that he was the one getting penfold to do those things in secret, thinking that's what scarlet would want, but before he can finish, penfold appears, accusing dm.

penfold doesn't give dm the chance to fully explain himself, he goes straight to accusing him. granted, dm is shit at explaining, but he had good intention, and you'd think penfold would understand that since dm wasn't interested in scarlett here, he was more so trying to help penfold in his... unorthodox ways.

yule only watch twice (season 2, episode 24)

yes, i know, this episode isn't actually them, but we're meant to believe it's dm and penfold, and i'm gonna be honest: it's still in line with how they act. and there's one moment i'd like to bring up here, and it's penfold bringing up jeopardy.

he has done this multiple times in different episodes, believing that jeopardy is better than dm, and perhaps she is, she is kinder to penfold, doesn't use him like bait, and is more professional. but it is a real sore spot for dm.

these two really like to get under each other's skin, huh.

perhaps i am reading too far into this, that is what i usually do, and there are lots of moments where they do seem like a good duo/ship/couple, don't get me wrong. but personally i see their dynamic like this: dm wants company, he wants someone to assist him and someone to save. he doesn't want a proper friend, in fact he isn't personally close to anyone- no one knows what he did before being a secret agent, no one knows his real name or why he wears an eyepatch or his family or anything in the reboot. dm doesn't want anyone to know him besides the hyperactive secret agent act he puts on, and the little details he sprinkles in rarely (like how he was laughed at during a musical audition, causing a huge insecurity).

i think the blood cells leader put dangerfold's dynamic best (banger episode btw)(live laugh love for your insides only)

i think this is how dm views penfold. and penfold is not very fond of this, as seen in episode two of the first season and beyond.

and there's other questionable things about their dynamic, like for instance in tomorrow never comes dm and penfold talk to each other about... what they've been doing over the weekend? when they live in the same apartment? they were both indoors during the weekend, and never once bumped into each other? not even for breakfast or something? alrighty...

(also how, when penfold has control over dm, it gets to his head and acts honestly cruel, like in jam session)

anywaysss idk, i don't see them as compatible as a couple, more so just friends. friends who have a love/hate relationship with each other. but just to be clear i don't dislike people who ship it and i still think the art is adorable. and i'm not saying dm can't be compatible with anyone either. i mean, i haven't seen this ship much but duckula/dm works quite well, they have a lot in common despite being enemies. (headcanon that they're both theatre kids TRY TO PROVE ME WRONG!!!!)

...also you can probably guess who i find dm most compatible with based on the other random character i usually draw him with haHA-- (and before anyone says: i am a multi-shipper and i don't dislike dangerfold because it "gets in the way of my ship" or whatever the fuck)(idk why anyone would after i provided proof for my reasoning but hey)

How do you imagine Mr. Peabody and DM meeting? I saw you wrote that it was through a "wormhole", but still I need specifics

gooooooooooooooood question, i have no idea lol

i said wormhole cause both have wormholes/blackholes and dimensional/time travel stuff in them. there was even an episode of the reboot where dm was disrupting history lmao (that episode was wild. bro literally became a god). they are so different but so alike...

but it's hard to say what would happen cause my versions of dm and mr.p are sorta merged versions of all the different variations of them? for mr.p i take inspo from his scientist outfit in tmpass and the tinted-looking glasses, but his personality is more so a mix of movie/classic. and dm is mainly based on the 2015 reboot (especially the part where he's taller now and not a little guy), but there are little things i include from the classic (e.g. that mouthless expression he does all the time. adorable)

soooo this isn't totally accurate to any version haha

buuuut if i had to make a little story, i'd say that mr.p was taking the wabac on a little test drive, probably after configuring some parts that needed a check-up, but the machine malfunctioned and got dragged into an unknown wormhole. i guess vaguely similar to that tmpass episode where the wabac malfunctioned and they ended up in this strange, stationary-themed post-apocalypse thing. tmpass is so bizarre lmao

so. he crash lands, no one knows what this flying apple thing is that just crashed onto their planet, and dm is called on a mission to check out what that was. shenanigans ensue. and eventually mr.p would get back with their help... hire me dm writing team. £5. that's all i ask for.

but what i find amusing is their reactions to all this. to dm this would be business as usual. time traveller causing destruction? he already has to deal with a time travelling monkey with a large top hat, so he thinks not much of this. but mr.p? he is quite overwhelmed by this new universe with these talking animals that act just like humans, similar to him. it will be very strange.

anyways yeaaaah xD idk i just think it would be cool if they met. as i've mentioned before, they are extremely similar in a lot of ways, which i'm willing to list if anyone is curious. also. tmpass season 2 episode 9... season 2 episode 9... peabody got a thing for smug british secret agents who make puns, yo. True true!! Lou is definitely throwing a lot of smoke and mirrors at all of them, and he manipulates that if they doubt him, they will dare to insult fate itself, which, by the way, has prepared something great for them. And no one wants to doubt their own destiny, and they want to become those very chosen ones for the portal. And so Lou doesn't train them in the same pattern, but to become perfect dolls for the game of their profession with kids(just wanted to highlight how each doll was given a job, that they didn't need at the institute in canon xD perhaps it will be the other way around: they have a set behavior for how to be with a child, but not how they should be be... hmhm…)

His so-called predictions are not insight, they are control, and in this way he has found himself… entertainment? I don't knows, a kind of game for him, like playing Barbie xD

Everyone wants to be special, like the main characters of some story, but to achieve this, they must all obey Lou without question, because he knows everything. After all, who would want to waste something when you can already do everything right? The thing is that the ugly dolls begin to understand that all this is nonsense, because in their town everyone does what their heart desires, not follow some prescribed destiny. But for now, Lou is winning: such arguments about making the best and worst decisions, and any mistakes can be avoided, and be confident in something, as it happens in astrology, Virgos will be lucky today, and Sagittarius should stay home. And so the ugly dolls try to prove that destiny shouldn't come from some self-proclaimed prophet, it should come from within. Especially when children are always free to imagine! And they are unlikely to play firefighters only as firefighters. So let the dolls do whatever they want here! On their own! And they even have compromising evidence! Mandy! The one who seemed to be supposed to join the spies, but in the end they saw in her a desire to be a stylist, and this proves that Lou does not "translate" what the stars tell him, but makes everything up on the fly or makes up beautiful speeches for the sake of profit :oo

and by the way, it all really possibly comes from his jealousy that everyone has freedom about what they do, while he really only has one role, and that is to even monitor the factory itself!!: (old drawing too xD)

I made it a while back with the lovely @moonoaware , and it was deemed the "Fate AU". It was about Lou being this scam artist fortune teller, who'd convince the masses of dolls that his predictions were fate, manipulating them so they stay with him. The prettydolls were "believers" (meaning they believed in whatever nonsense Lou predicted from a crystal ball and cards) and the uglydolls/imperfect dolls were "non-believers" (those who don't believe the nonsense). The imperfect dolls pretend to believe, but they had this own little group where they were planning to reveal the truth, but they just didn't know how to convince all these dolls... until Moxy and crew arrived.

And recycling was appropriately renamed "The blackhole".

The whole AU was very astrology themed, and all the students wore robes with star patterns all over...

There was some side plot going on with the OCs BUT. Idk if you lot care so hey.

my motivation has gone to get the milk and has not come back since, SO HEY! who wants to hear some random headcanons that have been microwaving in my head for the past year???

Lou is the kinda guy to only pack nice looking outfits on a holiday. Do they suit the occasion? Probably not. But he wants to look the part every where he goes, even if he's wearing a suit during the middle of summer

He would also be the guy to complain that it's too cold, even though he was told to pack up layers of clothes for a hiking trip, and didn't. But when someone tries to give him a coat, he says "I don't need that, I'm fine!" even though he looks like he's going to freeze over.

He takes the coat not too soon after

On the other hand, either Nolan or Ox would overpack for a trip. Ox because he is basically the fatherly figure of the group, and wants to make sure that everyone has enough food, water, and layers of clothing for the trip. Oh, and he brings a first aid kit as well. Nolan however does it because "What if I didn't pack enough?? What if I need this oddly specific thing??" and packs more than he needs to

Speaking of Ox, he always came off as a character who really enjoys camping and exploring, ya know? He seems like the leader of a scout group who loves to sing campfire songs and tell spooky stories that no one believes. (him and Rhidian would get along well)

LITERALLY NO ONE TALKS ABOUT LUCKYBAT AND OX'S DYNAMIC AND IT'S DRIVING ME WILD. Hello?? A withdrawn and somewhat jaded mayor who is protective of those he's close to with his intelligent, caring and concerned assistant?? That sounds interesting!

I'm sure LuckyBat knows more than anyone else (besides Lou) of what Ox went through. Perhaps he didn't know about the Institute, but he knew ox went through some stuff outside Uglyville. Perhaps that's why he's so cautious to go into the pipe.

(And perhaps the reason why he decides to go to learn new stuff was for the sake of finding out what Ox doesn't speak about?)

Back to the Prettydolls, I always found it interesting that Nolan was able to run the gauntlet despite being imperfect, although Moxy and Mandy, two other imperfect dolls, were thrown into recycling. Why was Nolan allowed to run the gauntlet, huh Lou? Didn't you say that any unideal looking doll goes to recycling, Lou????

Personally, I like to think that Lou allowed Nolan to do training and was like "Haha watch this idiot fail". And turns out Nolan was really good at it (flashbacks to Nolan being buff in the novel). Lou is flabbergasted.

...Either that or Lou just allowed him to run the gauntlet to watch him fail immediately because "Haha funny" and also "Haha imperfects can't win. Suck it loser~"

Kitty is jealous of Mandy's makeup skills, and often copies her because of it, too embarrassed to ask for advice because she needs to learn on her own. After Lou gets overthrown, Kitty and Mandy help each other out on their makeup and hair

Tuesday is the girl to think that "Yeah I'm smiling, but inside I'm crying" is the deepest thing to ever exist. Kitty bullies her for it.

Also, Tuesday cry-sings "I'm a mess" by Bebe Rexha after Lou denied her 1244th love confession. She will try again tomorrow

Because Kelly Clarkson was pop-rock for a while, I like to imagine that Moxy had a rock-n-roll rebellious phase, and still has a few characteristics from that era of her life

During the scene where Lou is going up the gauntlet lift with everyone else, he is constantly moving about. Winking at Mandy to fake confidence, adjusting his suit...etc. I always saw this has him being nervous, because you know, he's about to expose himself for being a prototype after this gauntlet stuff is over. So I like to think that he fiddles around with his suit when he's nervous. Mainly readjusting the sleeves, tightening his ascot tie and flicking out his collar. Also pulling out loose threads, if there is any.

I thought for the longest time that when Lou's hair got slightly messier, it showed him being more genuine. There is one god damn strand on his fringe that goes from being in place to hanging out, and I thought it showed him losing his façade, very very subtly.

This might be a hot take but I always saw Loundy (Mandy/Lou) as being friends/lovers to enemies. Think about it: Lou and Mandy seemed to have some sort of connection, Mandy (in my opinion) basically being Lou's assistant, similar to the spy girls. She began thinking he was perfect, and they formed a (seemingly) close bond. But over time, as Lou's desperation for perfection increased, her opinion of him soured, and she realised he isn't as perfect as she thought. She kept the negative thoughts to herself, though. Who would believe her? The perfect doll with the flawless looks and endless talents, topped off with a charming personality... Why would he be unhinged? How would he be unhinged?

You know that line Mandy says to Lou at the gauntlet? "You know, Lou.. When I first got here, I thought you were perfect. I couldn't find a single thing wrong with you. But, I can see a lot better now." perhaps that wasn't just talking about the events of the film, as it probably implies. Maybe she knows how terrible he's been for a long time...

So… hi everyone, I decided to share my character with y'all ;v;

Akira is the one who appears a little earlier than the main storyline of the movie, but will continue to be there. He is an imperfect doll, for some reason, imagining himself to be perfect and insults anyone considered "ugly", although he's no better. There is also too much contradiction in him personally, which can be seen in the design. For now, I'm just in the process of finishing his entire story, but I'll gradually try to reveal more about him here. Thank you for ur attention !! <:33

Here's a thought: Velvet and Veneer trying to extract the "talent" out of Lou in thinking he's some weird Troll-Rageon hybrid

(thought process is "it can sing like a troll but looks like a tiny Rageon,, let's suck it's magic—")

idk how lou made it into this universe, but if anything this probably happened after the events of uglydolls, cause lou 'isn't being put to use' or whatever, and the noodle duo is using his talent for him (or so they say). what kind of singer would lou be? pop? so v&v would still have the same type of music...

...velvet would fucking HATE lou's attitude though, even though they are so similar xD

veneer is just watching as the two argue about the pettiest stuff like:

lou: "Just what is your fashion sense? It's so ugly." velvet: "EXCUSE YOU, YOU LITTLE--"

and if lou's talent gets sucked out of him, he'll be looking like those grey prettydolls before they go through the machine to get their looks... i have done a (not-so) quick drawing of it:
