lanaya’s specific interest is animals but to take it further it’s why every animal and bug and fish etc is important in an ecosystem and to remove one would completely ruin everything. she WILL elaborate.

LANAYA LAVELLAN : ON HOME.

lanaya's concept of home isn't the same as most. she spent her childhood in the forests, climbing trees, exploring and testing the boundaries of what her parents allowed. the clan never stayed in one place for very long -- they're naturally nomadic people [ and also traveled more south than most dalish clans, but that’s according to cassandra, a human ] and would move depending on resources, food sources, hostility in the area. they tended to stay in forests outside of cities and towns but never too close that it could become a problem. they were peaceful with humans, or tried to be, not to say humans were never hostile or violent towards them for simply existing, the clan and lanaya had to fight them off multiple times. sometimes they'd be driven out, sometimes they had to move because the local animals were moving during the cold months ( and thus losing their food source ).

lanaya's concept of home isn't a place, it's usually a person or multiple people. she's never had a stable " home " that she could get used to. she was used to the moving around and she loved seeing different areas. it was exciting for her.

haven was the first, real, stable place for her. but it gets destroyed and people died. then, skyhold, which is even more solid than haven. she builds connections with friends, grows close with many -- and people are trusting her more. she can deal with the glances and whispers as she walks by, but she'd rather they not happen. it's better but it’s a huge, cold fortress and not something she’s used to but she grows to love it, which is also a surprise to herself. the lack of moving around was something to adjust to, but not so bad due to her venturing off every day with the team. she did get restless at haven and skyhold at times, just due to not much changing and being so stagnant, it wasn't anything she couldn't work with or shake off with a walk.

she's always been at home amongst trees, animals, forests and skyhold isn't close to that at all nor does it resemble it. the garden they eventually have reminds her of when she lived in the forests and she's able to help decorate skyhold in a way that brings her comfort [ dalish windows + decor in her quarters and various other dalish nods here and there ]. kinda sweet in a romance verse with solas, since he gives her + the inquisition skyhold and it ends up meaning so much to her.

it’s not immediate, but since the inquisition gets disbanded, she moves away from skyhold — and thus, a home of great importance and significant meaning for the elf. there’s an entire grieving process she goes through, too. skyhold meant so much to her and she ends up leaving it behind [ since the inquisition gets disbanded and they’re looking to do things more undercover ]. her home becomes more vague. she travels, she helps where she’s needed, she searches for solas, joins the shadow dragons, aids those in need [ its who she is at this point, she can’t not help when it was part of her for so long, especially after the events of inquisition when the world is trying to rebuild ] but doesn’t exactly get a home base quite like skyhold again.

lanaya has always burned bright and hot, like the sun, like the color of her hair. she was a fire and at times, she was close enough to burning out. when varric sent news that they had closed in on solas' location for the ritual, she dropped everything and met them in minrathous. it wasn't an entirely unfamiliar place, she's worked with the shadow dragons on more than a few occasions and could consider some of them her friends [ or friendly ... real friends were hard to come by these days and her heart had become so guarded ], and has kept in contact with dorian over the years, supporting him when asked without much hesitation.

she’s not sure what happened or how it got so bad — everything started to fall apart. the statues started falling. varric was stabbed right in front of her eyes. and she stood, tall and strong and defiantly in hopes that @arcanimas [ solas ] would stop, that he could return to her and they could go home. maybe she was delusional and a tad prideful in thinking he'd listen to her. there had to be another way, or a way to reason with him? [ there wasn't ... he wouldn't listen ] she got flashes of rook kneeling over varric and harding and neve pulling rook away. it was like she was watching from above, and didn't see herself. she didn't understand why ... until the ritual site was replaced with a dark, depressing and grey place she had never been to before. she was surrounded by decaying trees, broken structures and remnants of a past that's long been forgotten.

she had an idea of what happened. solas. the fade. those figures escaping ... ? she quickly turns at the sound of footsteps, immediately come face-to-face with the man who left her to destroy the world all those years ago. her features are soft, kind, with a sense of longing and confusion -- then immediately harden. harden your heart to a cutting edge, isn't that what he said after breaking things off? she still remembered the conversation as if it happened yesterday.
