One day in the forest–

Lance is lounging under a tree as usual when MC and Robin appear.

MC: Hi Lance!

MC waves, wearing a warm smile.

Robin: Master Lance!

Robin, seeming especially energetic, zooms over to Lance.

Robin:  Look! Look what milady gave me!

He flies around in excited circles, eager to show off.

Lance: Hm? What am I looking at?

MC: Oh, I bought him a bow tie while I was out shopping today. He absolutely adores it.

Robin: Doesn’t it look just dashing against my fur?

Lance: Haha, very cute.

Smiling, Lance scritches Robin gently behind the ears.

In response to hearing Robin’s animated voice, Grushia trots over curiously.

Robin: Master Grushia, look at my new bow tie! Milady bought it for me!

Grushia sniffs at the new accessory around Robin’s neck when MC suddenly exclaims.

MC: Oh yeah! Grushia, wait there! I have something for you, too!

Grushia: Aroo?

Grushia’s ears perk up in anticipation as he eagerly waits to see what MC brought him.

After a moment of rummaging, MC produces a slightly larger bow tie from her bag.

MC: I got you one too! Now you and Robin can match!

Grushia: Arroo!

Lance: What, no, you’re not giving him a bow tie!

Before MC can put the bow tie on Grushia, Lance exclaims this.

Unlike Grushia, he is very clearly not enthusiastic about the idea.

MC: Why not?

Lance: Because! He’s a wolf.

Ignoring him, she slips the bow tie over the wolf’s head.

MC: So?

Lance: Wolves don’t wear bow ties.

MC:  Says who? Look, he wants to wear it!

Grushia wags his tail excitedly as she adjusts the bow tie around his neck.

Lance: Oi, Grushia, you’re a wolf, not a blasted lap dog!

MC: There, perfect!

Now sporting a fetching bow tie, Grushia sits down in front of Lance, staring up at him.

MC: Haha, I think he wants to know what you think!

Lance: …

MC: You don’t want to hurt Grushia’s feelings do you?

Lance: …

MC: Lance, look, you’re making Grushia sad!

Grushia: *whimpers*

MC: Aww, come here Grushia. Don’t listen to big ‘ol meanie Lance. I, for one, think you look very dapper in your bow tie!

Grushia sits down next to MC and she wraps her arms around him protectively, throwing a glare towards her paramour.

Grushia’s ears droop as he looks at Lance with a sad expression.

Grushia: Arroo…

Lance: Come on, don’t you think this is a bit much?

Lance looks exasperated as he watches his paramour and wolf companion, who is now laying on the ground, resting his head in MC’s lap pitifully as she comfortingly pets him.

MC: Really, you look very handsome! No matter what Lance might say!

Lance: Don’t put words in my mouth-

Robin: Yes! I think you look very dashing too, Master Grushia!

Hovering at MC’s shoulder, Robin also throws an angry kitty glare towards Lance.

Lance: For Creator’s sake…

Lance’s exasperation quickly turns to irritation at the melodramatic display everybody is putting on.

MC: It’s okay Grushia, even if Lance won’t accept you, I’ll ALWAYS accept you for who you are. I’m sure he’ll come around eventually…

Lance: Stop making me the villain here!

MC: Then say it.

Lance: Say what?

MC: “Grushia, that bow tie makes you look very cute and handsome!”

Lance: …

Everybody stares at Lance expectantly.

Lance: …

MC: Well?

Lance: I-I don’t think you look bad in that bow tie, Grushia.

Grushia whines, sounding disappointed as he returns his head to MC’s lap.

Lance: Wasn’t that good enough?

MC: Nope, you have to say it word for word.

Lance: Dragon’s teeth…

Lance curses under his breath before resigning himself to his fate.

Lance: Grushia, that bow tie makes you look v-very…cute and handsome…

Grushia: Arrooo!

Immediately perking up, Gruschia wags his tail happily and begins prancing around, proudly displaying his new accessory.

Lance acts exasperated as he shakes his head, but is unable to completely hide the smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Robin: Come on Master Grushia, let’s go show all the others in the forest!

Grushia: Arroo!

MC and Lance watch as the two animals disappear into the forest.

MC: Oh my gosh!! I just remembered!

Lance: What?

MC: They had matching bow ties for people too!

Lance: …

MC: Darn, I should’ve bought it while I was there! I’ll have to go back into town tomorrow and buy one…

MC: Just imagine, you and Grushia, wearing matching bow ties! Ahhh, that’d be SOO cu-

Lance: NO.

I know I just reblogged something similar, but seriously... if you're posting PAID CONTENT made by Voltage, you need to STOP. This includes CGs and screenshots from PAID stories. I repeat...

You need to stop.

You're harming Voltage's profits. You're not helping them with "exposure". You are going against their policies despite the fact that they have EXPLICITLY told you not to. You don't own that content. Voltage does. In other words, YTA [You're the asshole]!

And if you support these blogs by following them or liking their posts, you're part of the problem. Pay Voltage if you want this content. If you don't have the money, I'm sorry, but you're not privy to it then. You are not entitled to things you cannot afford.

if you really love an artist, would you go adding your own watermarks and posting all their art for free online after they’ve specifically asked you not to? indie band? no? then why are you doing it to Voltage?

I’m not sure if people are aware but Voltage isn’t some sort of mass company that has tons of money. they’ve actually been in the red for multiple years at this point! so you are really harming them by posting everything online!

I get that some of the stuff is expensive but that doesn’t mean you can just post it for free online bc you think it’s too much

Honey, I posted recorded videos that were free from Voltage for anyone who had the app, not paid content. Big difference compared to posting VIP room content worth $50+ and then having the audacity to add your own damn watermark, wouldn't you say?

You can be part of a fandom without seeing the premium content. There's a reason it's called premium and costs money. Sorry, but if you don't have the money that doesn't mean you're suddenly entitled to the content. I don't know why people seem to believe they are, especially when it comes to art. The most important thing here is that Voltage has explicitly asked us not to, and by posting things that is knowingly disrespecting their wishes. So, really, your personal opinion on the matter isn't relevant.

Always thinking about polemics to get attention? That...doesn't even make sense. Not sure how you got this "always" or sense that I'm doing this purely for attention, but I guess people will think what they want. I fail to see how this is me only thinking about myself, either.

"People having fun" is at the expense of Voltage. Stealing from a company is not supporting them. I don't think you'd feel so great about it if you put tons of effort into making something and selling it, only for people to plaster it on social media--resulting in people having no inclination to purchase those things.

Thanks for the bad take, though. It's great to know you approve of stealing artists' content (anonymously), of course. Boring!

Do you ever get so mad about a story that you decide to just…rewrite the entire thing?? No? Well, that’s what I did here! I’ve literally been mad about his route since I first read it in Japanese back in May 2021 (ask any of my friends/boyfriend and they will tell you I complained on the daily for several months lol). So I decided to just put that angry energy into making a whole new route! I did my best to keep people in character as much as possible, and base Jasper’s character more from the event story Jasper. 

Like many people I was very excited to read Jasper’s route, because he seemed like a great character. But then they totally ruined his route by making him a sex offender*. The CoD localizers did their best to make it seem consensual so that international fans wouldn’t lose their shit over it, but there’s no erasing it completely. While I know the localizers did the best they can to save the route, I don’t think it really can be saved. The best thing at this point is to throw away the whole route and make a new one. So, here we are! 

Since the plot is completely different, there’s likely going to be many instances that the characters may seem slightly different as well. (Plus the only character whose speech patterns I’ve cared enough to learn is Toa, so…)

The Reality of Fiction - Toa Qelsum

Chapter 1

(Hello everybody please enjoy this Toa story! I’ll add a proper description later, but right now I just want to post this since I’ve spent forever working on it, haha. In short, Toa is a huge book nerd and MC panics too easily lol.)

I wanted to put multiple breaks in the story so that it wouldn’t be too harsh on on loading, but it seems I can’t do that. So I put one in partway through.

Rio: Oh man! That potions lecture sure made me hungry!

MC: Rio, those potions were for plant fertilizer.

Rio: I know, but they smelled so delicious! I’m starving!

I roll my eyes and laugh at Rio’s usual antics as we walk out of our potions lecture together.

Rio: Since our next lecture is cancelled, shall we go to the refectory instead?

MC: Thanks for the offer, but I was actually thinking of dropping by Toa’s room.

Rio: Alright, see you later then!

I recall Toa saying he had the day off today, so I head towards his room to see if he’s busy.

-

However, when I knock there’s no response.

MC: Aw, I guess he’s not here…

I hear a rustling of papers through the door, suggesting that at least somebody is home.

MC: Oh, it’s unlocked.

Gently opening the door, I peer inside the room.

MC: Hello?

I walk in and see Toa at his desk with a pen and paper, completely absorbed in whatever he’s writing.

(Is he busy doing work? I guess I’ll come back later.)

I’m about to quietly make my way back out when I notice him pause for a moment, smile to himself, and then excitedly scribble something down.

(Okay, well, I’ve certainly never seen him make THAT expression while doing work.)

Curiosity getting the better of me, I quietly scoot closer to his desk, trying to get a peek at whatever he’s writing.

However, it seems that stealth is not my speciality because I somehow end up tripping and nearly falling on my face.

MC: Ah!

I unintentionally let out a small scream as I try to catch my balance.

Toa looks up at me, startled, and quickly puts whatever he was writing away in his desk drawer.

Toa: !!!

Toa: Oh! MC, hello, wh-when did you get here?

He almost seems…flustered?

MC: Um, I tried knocking a few times but you didn’t answer and the door was unlocked, so I let myself in…sorry for startling you.

Toa: You did not startle me, I simply…was not expecting you to appear in front of me so suddenly.

(So…I startled him.)

MC: If you don’t mind me asking…what were you writing?

Toa: Nothing of your concern.

(Jeez, Toa. Way to seem not suspicious at all.)

Toa: More importantly, if I recall correctly, we did not create any plans for the day because you said you had a class to attend. Why are you not in class right now?

MC: I did, but it got cancelled because the professor wasn’t feeling well.

Toa: And they did not simply ask another professor to teach in his stead?

MC: I don’t know, maybe everyone else was busy or something…?

Toa: Unlikely. There are many professors at this academy qualified for teaching that particular course.

MC: I mean…does it really matter if they did or not? Either way, there’s no class today.

Toa: It certainly does matter. It’s very important that students are taught the full curriculum of a course, which means that it is critical that the class does not fall behind on schedule for unnecessary reasons.

(Gah, I didn’t come here to start a discussion on the importance of education!)

MC: Well! Anyway, that’s not the point!

MC: Since I have the rest of the day off, I was wondering if you would like to go check out that café in town we were talking about the other day?

Toa: I suppose so, I actually had planned on going into town today, so this works out well.

(Woohoo! Date with Toa!)

Toa: Let’s go then.

Before standing up he discreetly locks the drawer that he had hidden the papers in.

Whatever he was writing he must really not want anybody to see.

(Was he writing a love letter? No…I don’t think so.)

Toa is constantly saying things worthy of a romance drama without getting the least bit embarrassed, after all.

But just what was he writing then?

Why was he so flustered when I saw him?

(Unless he was writing a love letter to someone else??)

Haha. Just kidding. This is Toa we’re talking about. He’d never.

It’s probably none of my business, I shouldn’t pry.

Telling myself that, I do my best to banish the curiosity from my mind as we leave his room.

Possible (major) trigger warnings for sexual assault/rape Jasper Lane’s route (Court of Darkness/魔界王子と魅惑のナイトメア）

Hello friends! So this route has not been released in Court of Darkness yet, but it is out in the Japanese version! Due to his event stories, I was excited to read about his character and decided to binge his route. Hahaha, well…it’s Problematic to say the very least. I was and still am absolutely disgusted and disturbed by this route, and his character. Enough so that I contacted Voltage to request that they add sexual assault trigger warnings on the English version. 

They told me: “While we can’t reveal too much of our policies, we prefer to address issues that may be upsetting to readers during the localization process rather than leaving them as is with trigger warnings. We’ll do our very best to make sure the English version of Jasper’s Consort’s Path is one that all of our users can enjoy. In the meantime, thank you for writing in to offer a reader’s perspective so that we can take things like this into account.”

So, I don’t know how it’s going to be translated, but I fail to see how well they can make it any better. I wanted to warn you guys about the possibly triggering content this route includes, and also because it’s been over a month, nearly two now I think, and I’m still very pissed about his route. (Ask my friends and boyfriend, I’ve literally complained about it almost every single day since I read it.)

If sexual assault and/or rape is a topic that could potentially trigger you, I would recommend avoiding his route entirely. This route is, ahem, Siriusly Problematic…At the very least, you’ll need to skip all of his interludes, as those are the worst parts. And then skip the first chapter right after his first interlude. Again, however, I don’t know how Voltage intends on handling this, though, so it’s possible his English route won’t be so problematic. (I fail to see how they’d do that, but hey!)

For those who are concerned or curious, I’m going to talk about his route and what happens in this post. I’ll outline the route but I’m mainly going to focus on the problematic bits. This is gonna be a LONG post, just a heads up. Also, some dialogue/scenes might be a tiny bit out of order, but the overall gist and meaning is still there.

I get not everyone has the money to spend on paid content but that doesn’t mean the creators should just get their work posted for free!  Paywalls are annoying, I get it, but Voltage still needs to pay the artists, voice actors, writers, translators, marketing, etc etc that came together to make this game. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but they’ve been continually slashing the prices of the game lately Which, might sound nice at first, but it’s a sign that things aren’t selling at the current prices! Not good! I’m not sure if any of y’all ever played Liar! Uncover the Truth, but it was a party app a few years ago from Voltage. it was really fun, but they didn’t make enough in sales to sustain it. So, they abandoned it, straight up. No more updates, no more marketing, the app doesn’t even work properly anymore. I would hate to see that happen to CoD, and I’d imagine everyone else would too. 

If you want to support CoD, posting premium paid content all over social media publicly, especially when they’ve explicitly asked that we don’t, is not the way to do that. 

But also, at the VERY least, if people are going to be posting the CGs publicly, can you please put it under a readmore???? Not everybody wants to see the spoilers!!
