For your ask game- #29! Tell me about where you like to hang out for a spiritual boost. :)
I think God can choose to be present anywhere. but if I'm seeking them out, I like going to a small basement side chapel in the local church or out to the lakefront. there's a meditative state that I can get into while browsing shelves at a library or bookstore—I don't know if that's god, but it is comforting. in a similar vein, I love going to a good movie alone and experiencing the feeling of what you saw follow you out of the theater onto the street—that mild daze of awe and delight.

I was talking to an old woman yesterday who told me “when I wake up in the middle of the night I figure somebody needs me, so I pray for three things: I pray that someone who is suicidal right then can hang on another day, another hour, another minute. Then I pray for everybody who is in danger in Ukraine and Gaza. Then I pray for somebody I know who is suffering.”
I had just told her that my husband has brain cancer, and he goes to work between 2 and 3am and she said “if I wake up at that time, I’ll know he needs a little extra help and I’ll pray for him to get to work safely.”

And we hear the buzzard singing: Carrion! Carrion! Carrion!
Flesh and guts with maggots oozing: Carrion! Carrion! Carrion!
One of the Night Vale First Ward's favorite congregational hymns is #255B, "Carrion". While it sounds nearly identical to hymn #255, Night Vale's members know that theirs carries a slightly different message. And what exactly is that message, you ask? Some say the song is a reference to Israel's blessing of dead quail in the wilderness. Others see the song as a way to let the ward's actual carrion feeders know they are welcome. The one thing everyone can agree on, however, is that it's always a joy to sing about the dead things we find in the desert.

I don't want my Latin Class to go to waste. And I have an infatuation with Catholic Aesthetics
So, here's some Mormon Latin for you (and be a bit forgiving. It's been a while since my class, and I never was the best at Conjugation)
Baptism Prayer- [Full Name] a Iesu Christo missus, te baptizo in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
Amen.
Lord's Prayer (3 Nephi 13 Version)- Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra. Et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Quoniam tuum est regnum, et potestas, et gloria in saecula. Amen.
Jesus Prayer (Alma's Version)- Iesu, Filius Dei, miserere mei, qui in felle amaritudinis sum et vinculis aeternis mortis circumdatus sum.
And my Father dwelt in a tent- Et habitavit Pater meus in tabernaculo

I'm not religious anymore, but I still love the teachings of Christ.
In Luke 15, the scribes and Pharisees mock Jesus for eating with sinners. In response, Jesus gives three parables - the lost sheep, the piece of silver, and the prodigal son. Working together, these parables give us a guide for dealing with those who are lost. The shepherd leaves the herd to search for the one, the woman sweeps the house to find the coin, and the father waits patiently for his son to return.
I think it's very telling that the piece of silver is by far the least taught parable in the church. Countless talks and lessons cover the other two, but the piece of silver is mostly glossed over.
We're so eager to go after the lost sheep. We bring them cookies and invite them to church and hound them incessantly. If they're resistant, we're content to wait for them. We can stay in our comfortable moral high ground and let them search for something better until they finally come crawling back, at which point we'll accept them with open arms.
We never consider that the problem might be our own house. That perhaps the lost one never truly left, they're just buried under our dirt and dust. That if we only take the time to clean up and make space for them, they'll already be there waiting.

In a crushing blow to the team’s hopes of winning the NCAA men’s tournament, star Brigham Young University player Mihailo Boskovic was reportedly suspended Tuesday after testing positive for coffee. “Upon detecting the illicit substance on Boskovic’s breath before a game, we ordered an immediate test and confirmed the presence of performance-enhancing hot drinks in his system,” said BYU head coach Kevin Young, adding that the six-game suspension stood despite Boskovic’s claim that he had unwittingly mistaken the coffee for a cup of flat root beer.

🚨🚨 EMERGENCY SIT-IN! 2PM THIS SATURDAY AT UTAH STATE CAPITOL 🚨🚨
Yesterday, Israel violated the ceasefire and killed 400+ Palestinians. As Latter-day Saints, we will not stand idly by when the blood of our Palestinian siblings is shed. We renounce war, proclaim peace, and demand the United States save lives by burying its weapons of war and committing to an arms embargo on Israel!
Join us as we DEMAND an end to the U.S.-backed genocide of Palestinians and ethnic cleansing of Gaza! We won't stop fighting until there's a FREE PALESTINE!
