Witchcraft 101:

Cleansing vs Uncrossing vs Banishing

Alright witches. Lets dive into some witchy basics and discuss the differences between cleansing, uncrossing and banishing. This will hopefully help you differentiate between them. But.. lets be honestly if you do something like call a spell an uncrossing when "technically" doing a banishing, who cares its all in good spirit. The reason i think its good to have a difference in mind between these falls into how you handle a spell. If I'm doing an uncrossing vs a banishing i would choose different spell ingredients, maybe work with different gods, or choose a different element to work with.

Cleansing: I consider cleansings as the foundation and most basic of these. Its almost an umbrella term the other two fall under. All banishings are cleansings, but not all cleansings are a banishing. Cleansings are when you're trying clear something away. Most often people will use this term in day to day workings and general upkeep to make sure nothing has stuck to them. This would include more casual things like smoke cleansing, showering and asking the water to cleanse you, sound cleansing, etc. Its not a full spellworking or ritual, but still done with energy and intention. Sometimes you may do a cleansing and realize whatever is there, is stuck deeper then you expected. So you take the next steps and do a more "intense" cleansing like an uncrossing or banishing.

Uncrossing Spells: Uncrossing specifically refers to removing unwanted energy. Usually when discussing what is an uncrossing, I sperate it from just a cleansing by describing it as a very intense cleansing where you're trying to strip away intense and specific energy. These are more work and a step up from an everyday cleansing for more intense scenarios. This is very spirit focused; think of it as taking out the bad and putting in the good. Some types of spells I would consider an uncrossing are: removing hexes/jinx/curses, removing the evil eye, spiritual detoxes, road openers, removing any stubborn energy, removing feelings, etc. I associate uncrossings with water: it's soaking in and getting that energy out. I would choose herbs/spell ingredients that are uplifting and purifying. Think salt, rosemary, rue, and lemons.

Banishing Spells: Banishing spells remove unwanted entities, spirits or people. You can use it to get rid of very deep rooted things like habits or insecurities. Banishings are quite a strong forms of spellwork. You're really kicking something out and away from you when you do a banishing. Its connected to more deep rooted things that you're trying to remove from your life. Some types of spells I could consider a banishing: cord cutting, exorcisms, banishing a spirit attached to you, getting rid of insecurities, freezers, etc. I associate banishings with fire. Burn and gtfo. I would choose herbs that have more of a kick to them and are defensive. Think nettle, blackberry leaves, cloves, even pepper in some cases.

Please note this doesn't have to be something strict. Like i said at the beginning this is just a guide that will help you differentiate so you can tackle the spellwork as effectively as possible.

The performance element of witchcraft

Everyone performs. It's just an inherent part of talking about any practice, and that's not a bad thing. It's part of engaging with any community. Talking about cool experiences we have, things we want to do, taking pictures, making posts, etc. We even perform to ourselves, make things #aesthetic to get in the mindset.

The problem is when THAT'S what our identity as practitioners begins to hinge on. Sometimes it's better to keep certain things personal. Sometimes we risk focusing most on the appearance of the act rather than the actual intended results.

Ask yourself: if you could speak to NOBODY about your work, take no pictures, share nothing, what would you do? Would it change? What gives you peace when nobody else is around to give it to you?

you’re just like a rose! perfume glamour magick spell

This spell is a enhancer to make you feel like a goddess and make you feel as pretty as a flower. I have been using it and it makes me feel great.

What you will need:

Perfume of your choice

Rose Petals

Rose E/O

Take your perfume of your choice and make sure you cleanse the outside of your bottle and your space. Cleanse the rose petals and add them into the perfume, set the intention of the roses making you feel beautiful and pretty as a flower next, add in the rose e/o I would add maybe 3-5 drops if you would like to add more you can, set the intention of the rose e/o making you smell like a rose and making you feel like a goddess. Finally close the perfume bottle and shake it up, visualize all of the rose petals and e/o mixing in with your perfume and all of the different properties to make you feel good. When putting the perfume on you can say different affirmations ‘I smell like a rose’ I feel like a goddess.’ ‘I feel like a fairy’ etc… visualize when the perfume is also being put on that there is a red aura surrounding your entire body.

Getting Into Glamour Magick

Today I have decided to start trying to get into glamour magick. I've been reblogging a ton of posts on it with spells, information and tips and I'm here to combine them all into a simple list of things I want to try.

spell to have beauty like the moon

-greek yogurt

-honey

-the full moon

in a bowl, mix your greek yogurt and honey. make about a spoonful.

use a bit more greek yogurt than honey to avoid stickiness.

smear this on your face, like a face mask

once you put the mask on, sit in the moonlight. as the moon to lend you her beauty.

once it dries down, wash it off. I recommend a bath, so you can soak in the energy you’ve collected.

💕𝐼𝓃𝓃𝑒𝓇 𝒷𝑒𝒶𝓊𝓉𝓎 𝓈𝓅𝑒𝓁𝓁💕

My first time making my own spell after practicing for a while! I've recently got into glamour magic, and I've made this spell from a combination of glamour magick and self love spells!

Now you don't have to follow this strictly, as every witch has their own path, but I hope this helps any baby/novice witches with confidence and self love 💕💕💕

💕What you need💕

💕Pink Salt (protection and pink is a colour associated with love)

💕Sugar (to sweeten up compliments to yourself)

💕Cinnamon (luck, protection and to spice up your love life 😘)

💕Roses (common symbols for love and beauty, often associated with deities of love and beauty)

💕Hibiscus (associated with love, courage and beauty)

💕Vanilla (love, passion, beauty, healing, happiness, luck, banishing stress and anxiety. I used vanilla fragrance oil as it can work just as well and is easy to come by)

💕Chilli Powder (to invoke confidence and spicing up your love life)

💕Amethyst (calming anxiety)

💕Rose Quartz (self love)

💕Clear Quartz (clarity and confidence)

💕Bay leaf (for writing down your intention eg Inner Beauty)

💕A Mirror (to invoke seeing what you want to see when you look into a mirror)

💕Pink Candle (Pink represents romance and love)

💕Your Favourite Makeup (I used my eyeshadow palette to invest my energy into the spell)

After cleansing your space (IMPORTANT) and you have your ingredients together, put them in the jar with the intentions written on the bay leaf. To invoke the intentions, ripping or burning the bay leaf usually works for me.

Next, seal the jar using the pink wax. I used a sealing wax as I find it hold the jar together. I add a personal touch, by using a rose imprint on the wax, as the rose is a symbol for love and beauty-this is entirely my personal addition, it is not a necessity!

Next, I grab my favourite and most used eyeshadow palette and choose my favourite colour. With the colour, I rub it into the rose imprint, and say my intentions and affirmations to myself as I do so.

And much like after every spell I do, I end the spell with "For the Good of All and harm to None, this Spell be done. So Mote It Be."

Awaken your Inner Temptress.

 An exercise I often do to get in touch with my Inner Temptress.

Create a psychometric space, dim the lights in your room, decorate your room and possibly your altar, decorate it with dried roses, shells, symbols and images associated with beauty and sensuality. Burn roses or lavender incense, possibly put the Empress, the Star, the Queen of Rods of the Tarot on your altar, meditate on it, attune yourself to it. Put on dark erotic music, or music that awakens your inner stripper goddess... Wear sexy clothes or lingerie, do your makeup and don't forget to do it with intentions; for example, red lips symbolize strength and sexuality, purple eye pencil stands for mysticism and psychic powers, the black eyeliner for opening your witch's eye and protecting you against the evil eye... and so highlighter, glitter and shine for shining like a Star.

Ground and center yourself first, do a short meditative breathing exercise (for example: 4 count in, hold 4 count and 4 out), connect with the energies and archetypal powers of the Dark Goddess, the energies of the Femme Fatale's, the Sirens and Succubussen.

Dance rhythmically and sensually, imagine (visualize, see, hear, taste and feel) what you want to embody, feel yourself shapeshifting into the form you want, it doesn't even have to be human-like: I often imagine that I am some kind of Dark Angel with a devilish beauty, monstrous-feminine or dangerous angelic beauty with a provocative allure. I personally visualise a smoky magenta (or another preferred color, look at correspondences) atmosphere or aura around me. I imagine my eyes glowing golden-green, my skin gleaming like pearls under the morning sun, or the ocean under full moonlight... I imagine my claws growing like a feline humanoid. Depending on the mood, I visualize wings growing out of my back or horns growing out of my head. I dance with my hands going down, pulling earthly power to me, then I pull heavenly powers from above and start dancing with these energies...

I say affirmations or sing incantations (infront of my mirror) : "I am a terrifying beauty, my aura is magnetic and sensual, I mesmerize and intimidate, bewitch and enchant whoever I want." 

After the ritual, I believe I am charged, blessed and empowered. I release the overabundant energies with gratitude and respect and then quietly come to myself and into a normal state (non-trance, non-magical, mundane.)

I feel blessed by the Venus, I celebrate her beauty. I see myself rising from a magical sea, like some kind of Daughter-Aphrodite; my show, my dance, beautifying myself are devotions and ways to honor the Goddess of Love and Beauty. I also honor the Moon Goddess and Witch Mother Diana Lucifera of the Black Madonna. Dea Illuminatrix.

I let her divine light shine on me, I allow myself to be charged and blessed by her power.

After the ritual, I believe I am charged, blessed and empowered. I release the abundant energies with gratitude and respect and then calmly come to myself and into a normal state (mundane).

❀ Introduction ❀

• welcome beautiful Peoples, so as an introduction, i think that glamour magick is one of the lesser known practices personally but the easiest to get into (•ᵕᴗᵕ•)

• if you’re interested in beauty related topics like nail art, hair, beauty, makeup, etc as well as witchcraft this practice may be for you!

❀ What is Makeup Magick ❀

• so makeup magick is just one of the 3 categories that falls underneath glamour magick as a whole, by definition makeup magick is the practice of using beauty products in one’s practice to enhance certain features to be more desirable.

• while glamour is made to have an illusion on one’s appearance and cannot physically change someone’s appearance through magick means, i do believe with makeup magick it IS possible to change one’s appearance by using beauty products with intent & cosmetics. (fake nails, eye makeup, contacts, etc)

• i do recommend makeup magick if you’re a closeted witch since it’s very discreet in the means of witchcraft with its presence and how makeup is more normalized.

• you’ll most likely see makeup magick as a whole being more presented in a feminine light as makeup magick still is influenced by stereotypical beauty standards where it’s more commonly seen being used on females or as feminine expression.

• but masculine makeup magick does exist! you don’t hear a lot about it but through the more recent years it’s been getting slowly more heard of especially in masculine presenting individuals & non binary people.

• makeup is for everybody! there is no limit on who can and can’t do makeup magick, anybody of any gender identity can use this type of glamour in their practice. (⌒o⌒)

❀ Incorporation ❀

• there is a LOT of ways to incorporate witchcraft into makeup magick since, a lot of the time, makeup brings that playful style of bold colors or a mature color palette. color magick is my go to when doing my makeup, i pick colors that symbolize certain traits i want to express in myself such as red to express passion and sensuality.

• next is sigils, you can program sigils with a certain intent and draw the sigil in your beauty product! i find it’s easier to draw sigils with foundation or concealer personally since it has a wet substance.

• chanting your intent as well always helps! whenever im doing an action in my makeup routine i like to chant what i desire to be the outcome. an example is moisturizing my skin and chanting “i have smooth, soft skin”.

• skin care is another good way to incorporate makeup magick into your practice (plus it counts as self care!! (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧). doing skin care to keep your skin nice and hydrated and pampered is great for makeup magick! it’s all about learning to love your features for what they are and enhancing them, give your skin some love!

❀ Beauty Products ❀

• obviously in the makeup world there is so many products to choose from and it’s not so easy to find the right fit for you! ill be recommending just some examples of beauty products you can use in your makeup magick practice.

• foundation & concealer

• blush, contour, bronzer

• highlighter, mascara

• eyeshadow & eyeliner

• nail polish, fake nails

• eye color contacts

• primer for the skin, setting spray

• lip scrubs & lip balm

• acne creams (oily & dry skin)

• gentle foaming cleansers

• moisturizing lotion

• makeup wipes

• makeup brushes & sponges

• bath bombs

• the list could go on and on but that is just some of makeup supplies you can go buy to start off having some basic materials to begin your journey into makeup magick! the price doesn’t always matter too, there is nothing wrong with cheap makeup (but sometimes isn’t the best quality).

❀ Skin Care ❀

• when you think of skin care, what comes to mind? is it an act of pampering yourself? keeping up with your hygiene? for me it’s an act of self care and working towards the best physical version of myself i can be.

• surprisingly your skin actively shows what you’re going through, your skin is a reflection on what’s going on underneath what’s visible to the eye. stress can help make your skin more likely to have breakouts in acne and your hormones & genetics do make a difference in whether you’re likely to get acne, which skin care can help with.

• getting into a skin care routine correlates with makeup magick, self care and it’s honestly devoting your time & love towards yourself! i find that it’s a daily thing i actually enjoy doing for myself and it makes me able to connect with myself just a bit more (︶ω︶)

• skin care isn’t just about acne treatment, moisturizing dry skin, taking away excess oil on your skin that ain’t doing your acne good. it’s about connecting with yourself and taking care of the body you’re in (which can be hard depending on your situation).

• using body washes and drawing sigils on your body fueled by intent works, chanting to manifest your internal desire for your body and it can be an action of shadow work.
