Jealous
Daryl Dixon x reader
Warnings: SMUT, thigh riding, overstimulation, praising, teasing, dom Daryl, sub reader
Words: 3.1k
Season: 10
Summary: Daryl is getting jealous of you and Negan bonding, your getting impatient with the lack of closeness as you both work on repairing Alexandria...
Hope you enjoy my first Daryl smut! Thank you for all the love on my other posts! Love you all -mads :))
--------------------------------------------------------
Daryl watched you and Negan interact from afar, both repairing the same house that was damaged from the herd beta used. He tried not to be jealous, he knew you were his. The countless times he's had you pinned under him proved that point. “I'm surprised a frown like that hasn't just permanently stuck on your face” Carol joked from beside him. Daryl just scoffed and drew his attention to her. “You haven't got anything to worry about. That girl is head over heels for you” she said. Daryl nodded, he knew this, yet every time you spoke to the man it made his blood boil. He brought his attention back to you when he heard your chuckles, clutching Negan’s arm as you laughed at something he said.
You felt eyes on you, knowing exactly whose eyes they were. Now that the threat of the whisperers had gone you hoped to have Daryl to yourself for at least one night needing him more than ever. Blush starting to form on your cheeks at all the inappropriate thoughts that started to happen in your head. “What position are you in?” You heard Negan suddenly say, you turned to him shocked and confused. “What?” You asked. “Your day dream, what position does he have you in?” he laughed. Your eyes widened with shock, not expecting Negan to notice your day dream. “How did you-” you trailed off. “You've been hammering the same nail into the wood for like 5 minutes” he laughed. Your cheeks darkened in colour as you became more embarrassed. A smirk grew on your face before you decided to reply to his question not letting the man get to you “the yoga pose is called downward dog I think” you stated whilst picking up another nail. Now it was Negan's turn to be shocked, however it quickly turned into laughter which you joined in, clutching his arm for balance. “Not done it in a while?” He questioned. This was not how you thought your day was going to go, talking to Negan about your sex life was never anything you thought would happen given the less recent history you both shared. “Yeah, he's been distracted and had to take control, I just thought maybe he would spend one night with me but I get it we are both exhausted” you sighed beginning to hammer in the new nail you picked up. “We could tease him, you know” Negan said. You shook your head “I don't think that would end well” you chuckled thinking back to the last time he fucked you whilst being angry, you could barely walk the next day. Made everyone at the prison chuckle when you tried to help Rick on the crops barely able to stand up. “I think it would end really well, if you know what I mean,” he laughed. You smirked at him, you could just ask Daryl to lay with you but also he's so gentle you kind of want him to be a little bit angry and rough.
“What do you have in mind?” You questioned. Negan just smirked before whispering in your ear, whilst he was doing this you immediately felt eyes on your back again. “I'll just get closer to you,” he said. You thought for a moment, if it was really worth it. There’s nothing that Daryl wouldn’t do for you if you asked, maybe it would be a bad idea. “I don’t know, seems too much effort for some sex” you laughed. Negan laughter travelled further than yours did you know that from the footsteps you could hear coming behind you. You let out a small yelp when you turned round not expecting him to be so close so soon. “Goin’ hunting, wanna come?” He asked, glaring at Negan. You thought for a moment, knowing if you left you would leave Negan to finish this house alone since no one else was helping him, glancing at him, you saw him nod his head in approval. So you nodded, “yeah, just let me get my gear” you said, wiping your hands and placing the hammer in the tool basket with the nails. You felt Daryl’s eyes bore into you as you walked away, heat flowing to your cheeks knowing you weren't too far from you task at hand.
It didn't take you long to gather everything from your house, seeing Daryl and Dog waiting for you at the gates. You stopped to talk to Carol, “hey, want any animal whilst we are out?” You asked. “Rabbit maybe? I’m not too picky though” she replied. You nodded your head before starting to continue your journey to your significant other. “Got everything?” He asked whilst you situated yourself on the bike behind him. “Yeah” he nodded at your response, getting ready to start the bike. You tighten your arms around his waist, placing your head in between his shoulder blade, breathing in his scent as he takes you to the hunting grounds. Dog painting follows after you both.
Your hips cracked as you got off the bike causing you to laugh at Daryl's look of concern, “don’t worry, just in need of a good stretch sometime” you winked at him. A tight lipped grin formed on his face before he started to cover up the bike. “That can be arranged” he whispered in your ear, placing a kiss behind it, before starting to traverse the terrain in front of him. The first few hours neither of you said anything, but kept glancing at each other. Since it was getting colder you wore a long sleeved top, but had a few buttons undone, giving Daryl the perfect view of your cleavage. You were unsure if he was even tracking at this point or just trying to find an excuse to go back. “Not much out here” you stated. He only grunted in response. “The herd probably scared everything that wasn’t hibernating”
“Shame I promised Carol some rabbit” you sighed, Daryl paused for a moment, taking his canteen out to get a quick drink, offering Dog some as well. You watched his arms move to hold the crossbow again, muscles bulging through the tight shirt he was wearing. “Maybe we would find something if ya quit staring at ma arms’ he laughed. Your eyes widened, shocked you had been caught. “Haven’t had the time to look them up closer” you muttered shyly following him. He chuckled again, shaking his head.
You both decided to call it a day when the sun had started to set, laughing as the bike rolled through the gates, enjoying time alone with Daryl. “I'll go take everything we found to storage and see ya later right” he asked, you nodded and gave him a quick kiss before walking back to the house. On your way you bumped into Negan again. “How was hunting?” He asked.you smiled “good, really good”
Negan looked at your face, watching your eyes look at Daryl with so much affection. “He was staring a lot today,” you said, turning towards him. “Oh yeah maybe we can make him jealous then” he chuckled. You looked ahead thinking for a moment, before deciding against it. “Nah, I had a nice day. Don’t wanna make him mad ya know” you said, negan nodded “Suit yourself, I’m praying that he Fucks you soon. He’s getting too angry too fast” he laughed before watching you go up the porch of your house. You turned and winked at him, before entering.
The teasing would work yes, but you had a much better plan. You walked upstairs stripping yourself from all the clothes you had on, digging through his draws for a shirt. Once you had it on, unbuttoned to show off the swell of your breasts, you started to cook some food. Daryl entered the house to your humming, Judith wanted to play and look after the dog so he left him with her overnight. He entered the kitchen and paused in complete awe at your appearance. Standing there cooking for him in nothing but his shirt. Daryl nervously cleared his throat. “Oh hey! Dinner should be ready soon” you whispered to him. He nodded before walking up behind you, pressing his face into your neck leaving soft kisses. You pushed back into him letting out a small groan. “You look good sunshine” he whispered in your ear “is that my shirt?”. You nodded, eyes shutting briefly enjoying the closeness. “Hanging out with Negan today, getting all close and laughing with him” he said, placing more kisses on your neck. “No one else was helping him, besides you're the only one for me, you know this” you said, sucking in a breath. He reached in front of you, turning the stove off. “Prove it, wait for me upstairs” he said. Nodding you swiftly made your way upstairs. You sat waiting for him on the bed, nervously playing with your fingers in your lap as you heard his footsteps come up the stairs.
He smirked seeing you seated on the bed for him, softly closing the door behind him. He spread your legs allowing him to slot in between them. His calloused fingertips running up the softness of your thighs, until he meets your hips, holding them with a firm grip. His eyes darkened at your breasts from where the shirt had slightly fallen off your shoulder. “So beautiful, '' he whispered, leaning in to capture your lips. You whimpered against him, “oh? Someone’s needy” he chuckled, “show me how much you need me” He continued, pulling the chair that normally had piles of washing on it, over and then sitting on it. He lifted an eyebrow at you, waiting for you to start. You slowly moved towards him, allowing his shirt to fall to the ground. Exposing your bra, causing him to suck in a hard breath. You could see his cock twitch with excitement through his jeans, giving you more confidence. You straddled him, before starting to nip at his neck, whilst your fingers began to undo the buttons of his own shirt. He grabbed your chin, before pulling your lips to his, his hands dropped to your waist, readjusting your body so you were sat on his thigh. His grip tightened, as he slowly started to move his body so you were grinding on his thigh. A small whimper escaped your lips from the friction and his tightening grip. “Continue this darlin” he groaned. You kept at the pace as he removed his hands, “i thought i was meant to be pleasing you” you whimpered, as he grabbed your hips again increasing the speed you were going. “Oh you are sunshine, keep going, slowly increase the speed as well” he said, his hands went behind your back fumbling with your bra clasp. As he undid it slowly, fingers grasping your shoulders as he slid the straps off and chucking it somewhere across the room.
He nipped at your Collar bones, kissed slowly making way further down your chest, until he started kissing around your nipple, which became erect very quickly. Taking it in your mouth his tongue swirled around it, sucking and biting your nipple. His other hand came up cupping and kneading the other breast. Your pace quickened on his thigh which caused him to contract the muscle, adding pressure right where you needed it. “Good girl, cum for me please” he groaned in your ear. You nodded and whimpered, your speed becoming faster as you chased your first climax of the night. He guided you through it, allowing you to rest your head in the nape of his neck, kissing the side of your head as you breathed quickly. He lifted you off himself before laying you on the bed gently, standing at the edge, his thigh drenched because of you, your panties soaked through. “I'm so lucky” he groaned. As he began to undress himself, his cock became painfully tight at the sight of you laying on the bed, chest moving quickly as you tried to regain your breath. Nipples still erect. He slowly lifted himself above you, his arms by your head, the only thing separating you, the underwear that still covered you both. You took in a sharp breath as he bought another nipple in his mouth, his hand working on tweaking the other one. “Got to make sure you know Your mine, sunshine. Not Negans, or anyone else'' he groaned. You nodded, mind becoming blissed out from the touch of just your nipples. Your eyes widened when you felt his hand rub your clit through the fabric, the already sensitive bean sending more waves of pleasure. “Say it to me” he said, his movements stopping. “I'm yours...I promise” you breathed out. He smirked before both of his hands quickly worked to remove your underwear.
His body lowered, before you felt his breath. His lips slowly kiss the sensitive area before sucking and nipping at your clit. You whined loudly, biting your lips. You have spent so long waiting for him to pleasure you, and it was finally happening. He sucked harder on it, his tongue flicking and circling it, too caught up in the pleasure you squirmed when you felt his fingers tease your entrance, gently prodding it trying to tease out more noises. “Come on darlin let me hear you sing” he joked. You nodded, letting out a loud groan as he pushed two digits in, his mouth instantly attaching itself back to your clit. Moaning at every sound you were making. As you approached your second Climax of the night he increased his speed, causing you to squirm . His arm that wasn't being used he pinned you to the bed, stopping you from moving too much. Your thighs tightened around his head, you felt the familiar pool in your stomach, causing him to move even faster if you thought it was possible. When you finally reached the second high, it felt different, your body was even more sensitive than normal, a liquid felt like it was rushing out. Only did you notice when Daryl lifted his face away from the area, you could see it dripping with a liquid, his body lifted back over yours as he whispered in your ear “good girl, squirting for me”.
You nodded whining for him, he lent back on his elbows observing your face which had tears leaking out the sides of your eyes that were shut tightly. Your mouth gaped open, breathing heavily. Daryl stood up from the bed as he began to strip himself from the boxers he was wearing. He Gathered some of your juices and used it alongside the pre-cum that had formed for lubrication. “Are you ready?” He asked, careful to not use your over sensitive body too much. You nodded at him, spreading your legs wider for him. He smirked , rubbing his length gathering even more juices “p..p...please Daryl” you whined, his smirk became more of a cocky smile. “Go on beg for me, tell me how much you need me and only me” he groaned, preventing himself from fully entering you. “Please Daryl, I need it, for you, only you….Daryl plea-” you begged, he cut you by fully thrusting in you. Starting at a fast pace, entering you to the brim each time, desperately chasing his own high, watching you whine and squirm underneath him. His hand took yours, pinning them above your head with a firm grip that was sure to leave marks. His thighs made their way under yours, lift your hips on them creating a new angle that hit the perfect spot “Oh Daryl” you moaned, he let go of your hand to grab your hips, his speed never changing. His grip was even tighter than the grip on your hands, the pain being covered by the pleasure he was giving you. Your hands reached for his shoulders, lifting your upper body causing you to sit on his lap as he thrusted into you, your nails leaving new lines over his back. You moaned as one of his hands started to play with your clit, his mouth attacking a breast.
The pleasure was almost too much again, your eyes closing tightly, breathless moans being the only signal that you were so close to another intense orgasm. His thrusts started to become uneven, he gripped your hips again allowing them to meet his, your walls gripping him tightly. “I'm going to..” he groaned, you whimpered and nodded “please Daryl”
You felt a familiar coil beginning to form, Daryl close to his high. Your walls gripped him tightly as you moaned loudly becoming limp in his arms, he gently laid you back down as he tried to chase his own high, it wasn't long until he loudly groaned your name and his thrusts became weak and slow as he unloaded inside of you.
Even though you had passed out briefly from exhaustion you knew Daryl's aftercare would be focused on you, the action providing aftercare for him as well as he took care of you. He gently slid himself out of you, leaving your body untouched as he went to get a towel, before coming back and cleaning you up. He picked out fresh underwear and slid the shirt of his you had on. Wrapping you up in blankets whilst getting himself some underwear on getting in the bed with you. When you finally woke up you placed a soft kiss on his jawline, causing him to look down on you and place it on the top of his head. In this moment, nothing else mattered, not the interactions with Negan that riled him up, or the fact neither of you hunted as much as he planned. In this moment all that he cared for was you, a reminder that no matter what happened you were both a constant in each other's life. No matter what insane group of humans would storm about with a herd, they couldn't tear you apart. “Hey bunny” he whispered, you looked up at him with tired eyes “I love you, even if out of everyone you choose to help it was him”
You smiled at him, leaning up to place a soft kiss on his lips, brushing away the hair that had sticked to his forehead “I love you too”
The next morning you found it hard to stand, your hips aching with the bruises that slowly formed from his grip. Negan smiled seeing you approach in one of Daryl's shirts and jeans at a slower pace than normal. “Guessing the plan worked,” he laughed. “I think it was this shirt that did it, but oh yeah it worked” you laughed. You watched the man slowly turn to look back at you, before heading off with Dog again no doubt to try and hunt again. The smile you gave him never left.

Dean x Reader
Traumatic memories are triggered during a rough hunt. Dean helps his girl cope as the fear causes anxiety and sexual dysfunction.

WC: 7557 Warnings: NSFW. 18+ only fic. Smut, masturbation, sexual dysfunction, angst, show like violence, PTSD, fear, swears, fluff, and a happy ending. Sexual assault is not described explicitly nor is it actually happening in this fic but it is discussed. Know your triggers and take care of you. On AO3 Thanks to @letsby for editing this twice!
A/N: I’ve been working on this for over a year. It was tough but I needed to write it. And I figure since most of you don’t know me irl, it was ok to get raw here, anonymity and all. I was sexually assaulted years ago and didn’t start to process it until the recent public triggers in the media. I’ve needed a Dean to help me get through facing it. So I wrote him. Maybe this will help someone else.
This goes back and forth between the reader’s and Dean’s points of view of the same scenes.

HER 7:00 P.M.
I knew I shouldn’t go to the paper factory alone, but Sam and Dean weren’t answering their phones and I was afraid we’d miss our chance. So I decided to just go for it, holding my blade steady as I entered the double doors.
I didn’t hear either of the vampires until they were on me. The whir of the processing machinery drowned out their nearly silent steps and then I didn’t have a chance. I was an idiot to go in alone; that’s the first thing I thought as they dragged me across the floor. My knife skidded across the dirty cement floor with a heavy clang. No matter my kicking and screaming, lashing and fighting, they overpowered me.

The People in the Trees
Pt 12
The sun started to set over the woods, Romi grew more scared. She stood up, she snuck into the barn. She grabbed a lantern, a blanket and a knife, and went back to the entrance to the woods. She knew it wasn’t smart for a young girl to go into the woods but she had to find her family. She snuck off into the woods. Shelly went out to get her for dinner, her worst fear came true. She knew nobody would go searching in the dark so she decided to wait for morning to tell anyone.
As soon as the sun came up the next morning Shelly ran to the house and banged on the door. “Shelly, it’s so early, is something wrong?” Emily said. “Yes, it’s terribly wrong. My Romi went into the woods last night to find her daddy and Clark.” Shelly cried. Emily opened the door for Shelly to come in, Michael and Jeremiah were already in the fields. “Robert, go fetch your daddy for me.” Emily said, Robert ran out the door. “Mommy, he’s already coming and Romi’s with him.” Robert said. Shelly ran out the door, “I saw her coming out of the woods.” Michael said. Romi was covered with dirt, her legs were wet and she had drops of blood on her hands and shirt.
No matter how long Shelly and Avangeline tried, Romi wouldn’t say a word. It was as if she couldn’t bring herself to talk. “Mama, it’s like she’s scared silent. Oh God mama what did she see?” Avangeline said. “I don’t know baby, I hope with time she’ll be able to tell us. Why aren’t your father and Clark back with her?. Something awful happened to them, I know it.” Shelly said. “Probably dead.” Jeremiah said. “Boy, you shut up. That’s our daddy and my husband out there. You have any brains boy, can’t you see we’re scared to death?” Avangeline said.

The People in the Trees
By Jennifer Stanley
Pt 11
Michael and Clark ran toward the river, “Michael, look at the footprints. He went this way.” Clark said. The two men followed the footprints, the closer they got to the river they heard crying. “Robert, Robert.” Michael yelled, “daddy.” a small voice called, “where is that coming from?” Michael said. The two split up looking around the river, Clark saw the fallen tree and a foot sticking out. He wasn’t sure if the boy was okay, he walked into the water over to the tree, he pushed the sticks out of the way. He saw Robert hiding his face with his hands, “Robert, it’s okay. You are safe now.” Clark said. “Michael, I got him.” Clark yelled.
Michael ran over, “Robert, thank God you’re alright. You gave your mother and I such a fright. What were you thinking coming out here, alone?” Michael said. “I’m sorry daddy. I heard screaming, I thought it was Romi, so I ran to help her and I got scared. There were things chasing me, it was so loud I hid in the tree hole.” Robert said. Michael thought it must have been an animal, but Clark thought about the dark things he saw in the trees but he still said nothing. Michael carried Robert home and Clark led the way, they got to the entrance of the woods and saw Isaac had not returned yet.
Emily and Romi were waiting in front of the house where Michael told them to meet when they were done. Emily saw her husband carrying Robert and she ran to them, “my sweet boy, are you alright?” she cried. “He’s fine, some cuts and scrapes. He thought he heard Romi screaming for help in the woods so he went to save her and got scared.” Michael said. “You went to save me. You are so sweet Robby.” Romi said. “But I know better than to go in the woods. Where’s my daddy?” Romi said. “He’s not here?” Michael asked, Emily shook her head no.
Clark turned around and walked back towards the woods, “Clark, where are you going?” Michael said. “I’m going back the other way to look for Isaac, he may need help or be lost. I’ll find him and bring him back.” Clark said. “I’m sure he’s fine son, but if you want to go look for him, go ahead. Just be back before dark. You don’t wanna be in the woods after dark.” Michael said. Clark nodded, “Clark, I wanna go with you.” Romi said. “Romi, I need you to stay here, go help your sister with the little ones and help ease your mama’s mind. I’ll find your daddy and bring him home.” Clark said. He walked off into the woods, Romi stood there watching him until he disappeared into the woods.
Michael and Jeremiah worked the fields like a normal day, Emily stayed close to Robert tending to his cuts and bruises. Avangeline took care of her son and sister, Shelly stayed busy in the kitchen cooking collard greens with ham hawk which was Isaac’s favorite. She knew he and Clark would be hungry by the time they got home and they had missed breakfast and lunch. Romi stayed in the same spot all day, watching for Clark to come back with her dad. Robert had brought her lunch and sat with her for a while until Emily called him back for his studies.

The People in the Trees
By Jennifer Stanley
Pt 10
1810
Time passed, years faded into decades where people only passed through or across the river. In 1810 a farmer bought the property, he hired a contractor and his slaves to clear the trees and use the wood to build a house, a slave house and a farmhouse. The family stayed in their home in Colorado until the new house was ready to move into. It took months to get the house and other buildings built, by summer it was all finished. Early June, The Martin family moved in along with the slaves they owned. The Martin family consisted of Michael Martin, his wife Emily and their son Robert who was 11 years old.
The Martin family brought with them their family of slaves who they treated like family. They weren’t slaves but employees, Michael paid them well, they lived on the property in a small house. The father was Isaac, his wife Shelly and their children, 15 year old Avangeline, 11 year old Romi, 8 year old Jeremiah and 2 year old Harmoni. Avangeline brought Clark, her boyfriend and father of her 3 month old son Isiah. Romi and Robert were very good friends, Romi was the only one of their children to learn to read and write. Robert taught her how, he also taught her to count and how to do some math.
The months that followed the two families settled in, Michael, Isaac, Clark, Robert and Jeremiah planted the crops. Shelly, Avangeline and Romi got the animals settled in, they put the chickens in the coupe that Clark had built. Emily took care of the house while looking after the two small children Harmoni and Isiah. It wasn’t long before strange noises were heard coming from the woods. Clark was the first one to notice shadows in the trees, but he wrote it off as animals at first. He didn’t say anything to Avangeline not wanting to scare her, he didn’t tell the others in fear they would think he had gone mad.
One July morning Robert had woken up early deciding to go into the barn to play, he wanted to go get Romi first. He walked from his house which wasn’t far from Romi’s house, he heard a high pitch scream from the woods. He thought it was Romi so he ran off into the woods, “Romi” he called. He ran further into the woods calling for his friend, he saw no one, he heard trees rustling and footsteps all around him. Robert became more and more scared and ran further into the woods, he came to a river. At the river the noises grew louder, he found a fallen tree over a large stack of rocks making a cave like hole, he hid inside it.
Back at the house, Robert had gone to the field to start his daily chores and Emily started cooking breakfast. Shelly had brought Harmoni and Isiah over, before going to the barn to start her work. Emily went upstairs to wake Robert, she screamed upon seeing his bed empty, she ran down stairs. She picked up the baby, grabbed Harmoni by the hand, “come.” she said, she ran out to the field. “Michael, is Robert with you?” she yelled, “no, is he not in his bed?” he answered. “No, I can’t find him.” she said, “Clark, take the children to Shelly, grab Romi, Isaac come with me to search the area.” Michael said.
Clark ran into the barn, “Avangeline, take the babies, Robert’s missing, Romi come with me to search for him.” Clark said. His wife took the baby and Shelly grabbed Harmoni, Romi followed Clark out of the barn, “Clark, I thought I heard him call me earlier, I thought I dreamt it.” Romi said. “Not your fault he is missing Romi, Michael’s waiting on us, walk faster girl.” Clark said. “Isaac and Clark you are going to come with me to search the woods, Emily, you take Romi and search the house, the farm, and Romi’s house. We’ll meet back here when we’re done.” Michael said. Romi took Emily’s hand, “we’ll find him, Mrs. Emily.” she said, “thank you Romi, I know we will. I told you, just call me Emily.” she said. The two women watched the men run into the woods, “Isaac, since you can read a map, you take it and go that way towards the old Indian village. Clark and I will go towards the river.” Michael said.

The People in the Trees

Pt 9
Back in Kele’s tent, covered in fur, Zi-yeh was hot, covered in sweat. The loud banging had stopped, so had the screaming, it had been quiet for a while. Zi-yeh slowly crawled out from under the pile of furs, she stood up on shaking legs. She started to cry seeing her dead family around her, she quickly walked by them, trying not to look at them. She exited the tent looking around, she didn’t see any of the strange men so she walked out into the village. Blood was all over the ground, along with arrows, knives, broken pottery. She walked toward her family's tent, she looked up at the sky to avoid seeing bodies of the dead.
Zi-yeh only got half way to her tent before she saw the body of her father Diablo, not far from him was her uncle and grandfather. She realized her entire family was gone, the girl fell to her knees sobbing. Once she had no tears left to cry, she stood up and continued walking, she got to the tent of Liluye the medicine woman. She pulled back the curtain and walked in, on the floor in front of her feet was Eknath Liluye’s son. She stepped around him, going further into the tent, she saw Liluye’s body, she had her herb bag in her hand. At the back of the tent were the bodies of Onawa and her son Elan who were being treated by Liluye. “My whole village is dead and gone. What am I to do?” Zi-yeh cried.
Zi-yeh sat on the floor for what seemed like forever, she thought out loud, “Grandfather Kele would get revenge.” she said. Thanks to her cousin Ela, the story of Keta’s vengeance was in her mind, she had the herbs she needed but she needed the staff of a medicine man and fresh blood. She walked back to Liluye and pulled the bag of herbs out of hand, she left the tent. She headed toward the tent of the medicine man Biminak, he laid dead in front of his tent, his staff sat at his side and he held his knife in his hand. Zi-yeh bent down picking up the staff and the knife.
Zi-yeh walked to the end of the village into the woods, she took a deep breath hoping not to run into any of the strangers that killed all her people. By the time she made it to the river the sun had set and the moon was full in the sky. She knew she wouldn’t be able to find any animals to sacrifice, the only blood she had was her own. She took the knife poking the tip of the blade into her skin and pushing down she let the blood drip in a bowl she pulled from the herb bag. When she had enough blood, she cut a strip of cloth from her skirt wrapping it around her wrist. She opened the herb bag taking out a sprig of sage, bark of cinnamon and a sprig of thyme and some dirt.
Just as Keta had done she put the herbs in the bowl using a rock to smash the herbs into the blood making a paste. Zi-yeh put her fingers in the paste and rubbed it all over her face making a death mask. She stood up and picked up the staff of the medicine man, she walked out into the water stopping when she was knee deep. She stopped for a minute to think of the chant Keta had said, they came to her quickly. “Brave, powerful God Itzcoliuhqui, hear my call for vengeance, send your dark warriors to do my bidding and curse those who killed my people. I am your servant, in this life and the next use me as you wish. Just give me the vengeance I seek.” Zi-yeh yelled. For the longest time nothing happened, she started to doubt the story was true and that she had done the ritual for nothing.
The water turned ice cold around her, turning from black to purple around her, she saw a figure form in the water in front of her. A dark growl of a voice said, “I will grant your vengeance and then you are mine.” The figure gave Zi-yeh no time to answer before dark shadows like people rose from the water. The girl followed the shadow figures to the campsite of the strangers, she watched as they tore the men apart leaving nothing but bloody body parts behind. When all the men were dead and the camp destroyed the shadow figures disappeared leaving Zi-yeh alone. She made her way back to her village, she went to her family's tent.
She took off her blood covered skirt and her shirt, put on a clean sleep dress and  crawled into her bed and lay down. But before she went to sleep she heard the same growl of a voice she’d heard at the river. “Zi-yeh, you are mine.” She looked up seeing a dark figure with the face of a demon looking down at her. Before she had time to scream, the figure reached into her chest pulling out her heart and her soul pulling her into damnation. Her lifeless body remained on the bed.  Zi-yeh learned the vengeance could be had but at the cost of her everlasting soul.

The People in the Trees

Pt 8
Juh spent the night outside in the woods, Bisimi slept in Zi-yeh’s bed and the two cousins cuddled together after a stressful day. Jacali cried herself to sleep in fear of what tomorrow would bring. Not wanting to be alone, Nalin and Ela stayed with Ekta and Bina. In the smokelodge Chief Kele, Loco, Nantan decided Diablo and Taza would follow the tracks they had found to scout the strangers and learn all they could about them. But not until after they had a family breakfast to start to heal from the tragedy of losing Victorio and possibly Kuruk. Kele went home to Ella and asked her to start preparing for breakfast.
The moon was full in the sky by the time Jorge, Angel and Santiago returned to the river with news for Arlo. “Arlo, we found the tribe, they were angry and we heard screaming in anger and sadness. They are angry about the death of the warrior and I do not think the boy will survive.” Angel said. “Are they preparing to attack us?” Arlo asked. “Yes, they are. All the men are out of their homes, away from their families and the man in charge went into a tent with the lead warriors to discuss strategy.” Santiago said. “Arlo, they are going to come for us. We need to strike them first, catch them off guard.” Jorge said. “Are there many warriors?” Arlo asked. “Yes, but they are all split up on different ends of the village.” Angel said. “We can take them out first, then the rest of them.” Arlo said.
As the sun came up over the trees, Chief Kele and Ella set their table for the family breakfast. Loco, Ekta and Bina were the first to arrive, followed by Diablo, Jacali and Zi-yeh and Taza, Nalin and Ela. The last to arrive were Nantan and Leosanni with Juh and Bisimi who had horrible news for the family. “I am afraid Kuruk did not make it through the night, he died in his sleep. Liluye, came to me as the son was rising this morning to inform of the boy's death.” Nantan said. Everyone in the room was stunned by the news, as they sat down for breakfast all were quiet and crying. It was not the happy breakfast Kele and Ella had wanted before Diablo and Taza left.
As the family ate, they heard what sounded like screams and sounds of fighting. Mangas ran into the tent with blood stains on his clothes and a leg wound. “The strangers are here, they are killing everyone and they need help.” Mangas said. Diablo stood up, grabbed his bow and arrow and ran out of the tent, followed by Taza, Loco, Nantan and Leosanni. “Jacali, Nalin, Ella, stay here with the children. Juh guard them, if anyone comes, kill them.” Kele said. Ella led Ela and Bina to the corner while Nalin hid with Bisimi and Zi-yeh under the table, Juh stood near the doorway with Jacali guarding the door.
Inside the tent sounds of strange blasting were heard followed by screams, “Zi-yeh, take Bisimi and hide at the back of the tent under the furs, go now.” Nalin said. Zi-yeh took Bisimi by the hand, taking him to the back of the tent and covering him and herself with a pile of furs. Just as the kids were covered, strange men entered the tent. Juh charged them and was tackled to the ground by the larger of the two men. The large man stabbed Juh in the stomach with a knife, and the other man pointed a silver object at Jacali. A large bang came from it followed by a small ball that hit Jacali. She hit the ground with blood pouring from the hole in her chest.
In an attempt to protect her daughter Ela, Nalin crawled out from under the table lunging at the man on top of Juh. The other man pointed the weapon at her and fired it, hitting Nalin in the head. Unable to stop him, Bisimi got out of the furs, pulled a small knife his father had made him and tried to stab the man that killed his brother. But he was no match for the large man who slit Bisimi’s throat with his own knife. Ella stood up in the corner of the tent holding her bow and arrow, she pulled Ela and Bina behind her. Ella fired her arrow hitting the man with the strange weapon in the shoulder. The large man with the knife ran and stabbed Ella before she could fire another arrow.
Ela tried to pick up the bow and arrow but was stabbed before she could load it. The large man pulled Bina up by her hair and slit her throat. He looked around the tent and didn’t see anyone else. Lenna walked into the tent, with a knife in her hand, she stabbed the man holding the strange weapon in the neck. The large man turned around, seeing her coming towards him, he stabbed her in the stomach. Zi-yeh held her hands over her mouth trying not to make a sound and keep still until she was sure the men left. The large man pulled the other man’s dead body out of the tent. Still Zi-yeh hid.
Meanwhile, outside the strangers moved through the village killing everyone in sight, Diablo dropped his bow and arrow in favor of his knife. He was attacked by Arlo and Hugo, Arlo had a knife in his hand and Hugo had a weapon Diablo had not seen until that day. Diablo lunged with his knife pointed at Arlo cutting his upper arm. Hugo pointed his weapon at Diablo firing it, it hit him in the neck, Arlo then stabbed Diablo in the chest and the great warrior fell lifeless to the ground. Taza sees everything sprinted toward Arlo just to be shot in the head by Hugo. Nantan and Kele saw the events unfold, Nantan pointed his bow and arrow at Hugo and let loose hitting the man in the leg.
Hugo screamed in pain grabbing his leg, Arlo put his knife in it’s holder on his belt pulling out the same weapon that had killed Diablo. He pointed it at Nantan first firing it, hitting Nantan in the eye, he then turned it on Kele firing at the Chief hitting him in the lower chest. Leosanni ran to her husband's lifeless body falling on him sobbing, Arlo fired his weapon hitting her in the back. Loco witnessing the murder of his father, let out a loud fierce war cry charging at Arlo, who pointed the weapon at the angry man firing it striking Loco in the stomach. Mangas not wanting to end up like his family turned around and ran away, only to be stabbed in the chest by the waiting Jorge.
“Got him.” Jorge said, “is that all of them?” Arlo asked, “Yes, there were a few on the other side of those tents but Jose, Francisco, Michael and Juaqine took care of them.” Jorge said. “Those savages killed uncle Hugo?” Junior asked. “Yes, I am afraid they did. But I killed them both.” Arlo said. “Junior, do find Mateo and Marco. Tell them we are headed back to our campsite to prepare to go home.” Arlo said. A few seconds later, Junior returned with Mateo who was carrying the body of Marco and followed his father and the others. Junior pulled the rope guiding the horse that held the dead bodies of Hugo and Marco.

Pt 7
Back at the river where Victorio fell, the men who shot him stood above his corpse. The men were from Spain who had come up from Mexico to explore the area to see if it was a good place to create a new settlement. They were explorers led by Arlo along with his brother Hugo and son Junior and other men. “Who is this man?” Hugo said. “Looks like an Indian warrior,” Arlo said. “Is he after us, father?” asked Junior. “I do not know and now that he is dead we can not know. Who shot this man? Who shot the boy?” Arlo said.
“I did not shoot the boy but I did shoot this man. He was running at us, I feared for my safety so I shot him” Jose said. “That was the right choice, Jose. But whoever shot the boy, made a huge mistake in judgment. I fear more like him will come not only for his body but for vengeance for the boy” Arlo said. “What should we do, Arlo?” Hugo said. “Jorge, Angel, Santiago follow the mans' tracks, see where they live and what they are doing and report back” Arlo said. Arlo got a blanket out of the bag on his horse, unfolded it and used it to cover the body of the fallen man.
At the village the entire tribe was on edge, most were in their homes all except for Kele’s family. The Chief and his sons were in the smokelodge sitting in silence deep in thought. The army was on high alert in different areas keeping an eye out for intruders. Jacali and her sister Nalin cooked dinner for the children, and they attempted to explain to the children what was going on.
While the two women were cleaning up, the children sat in Zi-yeh’s room in silence until Bisimi spoke “Juh, tell us a story.” he said. “I do not feel like telling a story, Bisimi.” Juh said. “I’ll tell you a story, one of anger and vengeance. The story of Keta the great warrior.” Ela said. The children gathered around her sitting in a circle. Juh left the tent, not wanting to hear about a story of vengeance since it’s what his heart wanted. But knowing that vengeance would only bring more pain and agony for his family and the village.
Ela started the story. “Years and years ago there was a great warrior called Keta. He led the tribal army deep into the forest in the middle of a great war with the Apache. He and the army would be gone for weeks, without them the village was defenseless. The Apache scouts at the village borders sent word home the army had left. The Apache sent part of their army after Keta and the rest of the army to the village and slaughtered all the people including the women and children, even the newborn infants. Keta and the surviving warriors returned home in defeat; they found the entire village dead.”
“Keta went to his home and found his family all dead, his wife, his children, his parents, all dead. The other warriors found the same thing at their homes, Keta and his warriors were the last of the tribe. His warriors wandered off into the woods to disappear in one way or another. But Keta’s heart was full of rage and all he wanted was vengeance. As he walked the village looking at the bloody bodies of his fallen tribe, he saw the body of his uncle, the medicine man. Near his body was his staff and bag of herbs, Keta remembered a ritual his uncle had told him when he was a boy. The ritual was to summon Itzcoliuhqui, God of Darkness and Destruction.”
“Keta picked up the staff and herb bag and his bow and arrow, he walked out into the woods. The first thing he needed for the ritual was fresh blood and he was not going to use the blood of his tribe. He hid behind a fallen tree frozen until a small rabbit crossed his path, he pulled back the string of his bow and let loose an arrow striking the rabbit in the chest. Keta stood up and picked up the rabbit, using his knife and a small bowl he collected the blood of the small rabbit. He removed the arrow and buried the rabbit, thanking it for it’s sacrifice. In front of the dark water of the river, he began the ritual.”
“He placed the bowl of blood in front of him, he opened the herb bag and took out a sprig of sage, bark of cinnamon and a sprig of thyme and some dirt placed them in the bowl with the blood. He smashed the herbs mixing them into the blood until he had made a paste. He put the paste on his finger rubbing it all over his face making a blood mask. Keta stood up and picked up the staff, he stepped knee deep into the water, he chanted, “Brave, powerful God Itzcoliuhqui, hear my call for vengeance, send your dark warriors to do my bidding and curse those who killed my tribe. I am your servant, in this life and the next use me as you wish. Just give me the vengeance I seek.”
“The water bubbled around him, turning from black to red as blood around Keta, he saw black eyes form in the water in front of him. He heard a dark whisper of a voice say, “I will grant you your vengeance at the cost of your life and your soul.” Dark figures rose out of the water walking all around Keta and out of the water. Keta watched the dark warriors glide towards the Apache village. Keta followed them to the village and watched the dark warriors tear apart the Apaches leaving only bloody bodies behind them. They then turned their attention to Keta, they each put their dark hand on his chest, ripping out his heart and his soul, taking it to Itzcoliuhqui for all eternity.”
Before Ela could finish the story her mother walked in, “Ela, stop telling the children this dark story, Keta is not a character in a story he is your great, great, great, great grandfather and fool who brought pain and sorrow to us all for his vengeance. Come, we are going home, ` Nalin said. Ela stood up and stood next to her mother. “Bina you are coming with us, I’m taking you home to your mother” Nalin said. “Juh and Bisimi are staying here with Jacali.” Nalin said.

The People in the Trees
By Jennifer Stanley
Pt 6
Back at the village, Kele, Nantan and Loco were in the smoke lodge preparing for a tribal celebration when they heard someone screaming for help. All the villagers heard the screaming. Lena and Bimisi thought of Victorio, Juh and Kuruk out hunting and were worried something terrible had happened. Before she could stop him Bimisi ran off toward the sound of the screaming, he was followed by his grandfather Kele and Nantan. Diablo and Taza followed along with the tribe's army. The women gathered the children into the huts to keep them safe.
Kele grabbed hold of Bimisi pulling him behind him, Nantan pulled him to the side and allowed the army to run ahead of them to keep the boy safe from harm. Juh saw his grandfather running towards him. He was unable to keep running and standing and fell to his knees on the ground. Kele knelt down in front of Juh gently pulling Kuruk on to the ground. Kele looked at the round wound on his grandson’s chest, “Nantan, get Liluye and Biminak quickly. Diablo, Taza check the area for intruders” Kele ordered.
Nantan took Bimisi by the hand, running back toward the village. “Juh, what happened? Where is your father” Kele asked. Juh’s eyes filled with tears “he’s dead. I think. Strange men, with strange weapons attacked us. They used the strange weapon to hurt Kuruk. Father told me to take him and run so I did. They hurt my father the same way they did Kuruk. Father fell down and didn’t move” Juh cried. Kele put his arms around the boy hugging him, trying to push away the grief and anger he felt knowing his son was dead.
Nantan returned with the tribe’s medicine man Biminak and medicine woman Liluye. Kele stood up, pulling Juh up into a standing position. Biminak looked at the wound, and Liluye cleaned the wound. They carried the injured boy back to their tent in the village, Lenna screamed seeing her wounded son. Juh ran to his mother hugging her and Bimisi held them. Kele followed Bimibak and Liluye into the tent. Leaving Nantan and Juh to tell Lenna what happened and the fate of Victorio.
Inside the tent Kele heard Lenna”s screams, again he fought back the tears, he had to be strong for his family.  Biminak examined the wound, he realized something was in the wound. It wasn’t an arrow, it was something he had never seen before. He picked up a small sharp knife he used to remove arrowheads, he cut open the wound more, He sent his wife out to care for Lenna and Bisimi and Juh. He used a pair of tweezers to pull out a small metal ball, he held the ball up looking at it. He dropped it into a bowl and continued to fix the damage done by the small ball. He finished sewing up Kuruk, the boy was alive but Biminak wasn’t sure he would stay that way, fearing infection.
As Kele exited the tent, Diablo and Taza had returned from the search, “Chief, we found footprints larger than Juh’s following him back here but we saw no one. Do you want us to go further out to retrieve Victorio's body? Diablo said. “No not now, we need to have a tribal meeting now. Gather everyone. I have to tell my wife our son is dead and of what happened” Kele said. Diablo saw the pain and fear in the Chief’s eyes, as he walked toward his home. His wife Ella met him at the doorway, she had already heard from Lenna and Juh. Bimisi was sleeping on the floor nearby.
Diablo and Taza gathered the tribe and they all waited for the Chief’s arrival, but he decided to stay with his wife and grandchildren. He sent Nantan in his place. “I do not know and did not see what happened today. But, I do know my nephew Victorio was killed by strangers outside of the village while hunting with his two sons Juy and Kuruk. I believe Victorio died protecting his children, one Kuruk was badly wounded by these strangers. No action should be taken now. We need to protect ourselves since we do not know who the strangers are or what they want. Return to your homes. As soon as we know more we will meet again.” Nantan said.

The People in the Trees
By Jennifer Stanley
Pt 5
1540
Kele had become Chief after his uncle Abornazine, passed away in 1535, and had been for five years. Chief Kele led the tribe with the help of his younger brother Nantan, who led the tribe's army of warriors and hunters. Kele and his wife Ella with the help of their children, Victorio, Loco, Nalin and Jacali led the tribe peacefully. The past five years had been peaceful, they had a lot of food from their gardens and game they hunted. In the gardens they grew beans, carrots, corn and potatoes. They hunted small game like rabbit, squirrel, birds and large game like deer and bear. They lived alongside other Indian tribes nearby, sharing and trading food, fur and other supplies. All was well.
Kele and Ella’s children had their own jobs in the tribe as well as their own families. Their oldest son Victorio married the daughter of a tribal elder Lenna. Together they had three sons, 18 year old Juh, 14 year old Kuruk and 7year old Bimisi. Juh was a hunter and a warrior in training, Kuruk was a hunter. Bimisi was too young to hunt so he spent a lot of time with the other boys of the tribe who were stuck behind. Victorio’s younger brother Loco was a leader who stayed close to their father helping to make decisions for the tribe's future. Loco had married a tribal girl Ekta and had a 12 year old daughter Bina.
Kele’s daughters had their husbands chosen by their father, for his oldest daughter Nalin he chose a hunter gatherer Taza and together they had a 16 year old daughter Ela. For his youngest daughter Jacali he chose a brave and honest warrior Diablo and together they had a 11 year old daughter Zi-yeh. Kele’s granddaughters Ela and Bina helped watch over Bimisi and Zi-yeh and the other children in the tribe while their parents worked. The teen girls were not left unsupervised, Kele, his brother Nantan and his son Loco were nearby. As was Nantan’s wife Leosanni. Ella’s brother Magnas and his wife and medicine woman Liluye and their son Eknath, a medicine man in training, were also nearby.
Kele and Nantan lead their tribe with peace for five years without incident and would have continued to do so if it wasn’t for a group of explorers that invaded their tribal land. Victorio had taken out a hunting party that included his sons Juh and Kuruk searching for deer. Down near the river Victorio stopped by the water when he saw a large group of men drinking. He had never seen these men before and they didn’t look like any Indians he knew. His son Kuruk was not paying attention to his father, he was trying to catch a fish with a stick he had sharpened into a spear. A fish swam in front of him so Kuruk pushed the stick in the water. He pushed it too hard and slipped, falling into the water.
With a loud splash and a yell Kuruk hit the water alerting the large group of men to their location. Before Victorio could get to his son, one of the men pulled out an object he had never seen before. The man pointed it at Kuruk and it made a loud booming sound, a small object was fired from it and sped into Kuruk hitting his chest. The boy was hurled into the water, he was pulled out by his brother Juh, blood was pouring from the wound. The men were yelling and running toward them, not knowing what to do Victorio ran towards them, yelling to Juh to get his brother home to Liluye for help. Juh scooped his brother into his arms and started walking toward home. He heard another loud bang and turned around just in time to see his father hit the ground and not get up.
With tears in his eyes and his brother in his arms Juh ran as fast as he could towards his village. He heard the men yelling in a language he didn’t know behind him, he was worried they’d follow him. That fear made him run faster, he didn’t fear for himself only for his little brother bleeding in his arms. The longer he ran the heavier Kuruk got, he looked down at his little brother fearing he was dead, Juh started screaming for help. His words were slurred because he was crying and breathing heavily.

The People in the Trees
By Jennifer Stanley
Pt 4
Kele felt like crying after hearing his grandfather’s story and learning that Keta was his family, he saw the fear and disappointment in Chief Achak’s eyes. He watched the old man walk to a clearing nearby and make a small fire, Achak sat near the fire in silence. He did not move one muscle, Kele knew he was speaking to the spirits asking for advice and help to face the demon. Suddenly the boy was hit with the realization that what was happening to Elsu was all his fault since it was Kele’s wish to go to the river and convince his friend demons were real. While he was deep in thought and crying, Achak walked over to him. “Do not cry grandson, the fault does not lay on you, it lays on Keta for bringing the demon, and on me for not telling you the truth of Keta.” Achak said.
Achak gestured for Kele to get up and follow him, and they started walking towards the forbidden river. “Grandfather, does my father know about Keta?” Kele asked, “Yes, because in the wisdom of my father he told both your father and uncle as I should have told you, your brother and cousins. Promise me grandson, you will tell them and be brave enough to tell your own children one day.” Achak said. “Yes grandfather I promise. But why do you not tell them yourself?” Kele said. “I am not going to be around forever, grandson.” Achak said. Suddenly Kele was filled with fear of what his grandfather intended to do at the forbidden river.
The rest of the walk was completed in silence, until Bodaway and Abornazine ran up behind them, “father, why is Kele here, it is too dangerous for him.” Bodaway said. “It will not be dangerous for him, only for me and one of you, one of you will come with me the other will stay with Kele. Abornazine, you will come with me. So if anything should happen to me, Bodaway will continue as Chief. Achak said. Bodaway and Abornazine knew what their father was going to do but Kele did not.
As they neared the river the woods felt dark, sick and evil, a dreadful feeling of fear came over all the men. Achak stopped at the tree line, Kele could see the river, “Abornazine, come with me do as I say and do nothing or say nothing to provoke the demon, just be ready to grab the boy and run when I tell you.” Achak said. “Yes father.” Abornazine said he hugged his brother, he looked at Kele, “if I do not make it back take care of my girls for me.” he said. Achak and Abornazine walked toward the water, at the edge they saw Elsu’s body. It looked as if the boy was sleeping.
“Pick up the boy and follow me.” Achak said, “but father, he is dead is he not?” Abornazine said. “He is not dead, his body lives while his spirit is with the demon in a terrible place being tortured and he is in incredible pain. His only hope is us.” Achak said. “How, father?” Abornazine said, “with a trade my son.” he answered. “I will call the demon with this.” he said as he took a small bowl out of his satchel and rubbed a mask that looked like blood on his face. “When the demon comes, make no sudden moves, I will propose a trade to the demon, my soul for the soul of the boy. When it takes the deal and I know it will, the demon will release the boy's spirit. That is when you run to your brother and nephew and then you run home. Do not turn around, do not come back.” Achak said.
With tears in his eyes Abornazine nodded, Achak chanted in the ancient language his son did not understand. It seemed like forever before anything happened, the water around them got icy cold. A large black form rose from the water in front of Achak, the Chief did not show fear as he spoke to the demon in the language of their ancestors. The demon pulled a bright light from the darkness for the water and it flowed into the body of the boy. Abornazine turned and ran out of the water, Kele watched as the demon reached its hand into Achak’s chest pulling out his soul along with his heart. Kele tried to run to the water but Bodaway pulled him back and they ran until they could no longer see the river.
Bodaway held Kele while the boy cried, while his brother soothed his son, Abornazine disobeyed his father’s wishes and went back to the river. He waded in and pulled out his fathers body. He washed off the blood mask, lifted him onto his shoulders and carried him back to where Bodaway, Kele and Elsu were. “I know, father told you not to go back.” Bodaway said, “he did, I was not going to leave him there, he deserves a proper burial even if it costs me my soul.” Abornazine said. “Father, Uncle Abornazine I am so sorry this was my fault, I killed my grandfather.” Kele wept. “No Kele, this was not your fault, his grandfather did the same for him many years ago. He knew the demon would want him and he wanted you to see it so you would make sure no one ever goes to the forbidden river again.” Abornazine said.
Bodaway led the way home with the two boys behind him and Abornazine with the body of Chief Achak on his shoulders. When they arrived home they gave Achak a proper burial, they held a ceremony in his honor. The next day they crowned Bodaway as the new Chief. Kele told Nantan, his cousins, Ella and Elsu what Achak said about Keta, about vengeance and what happened to Achak. They vowed that day to let no one go to that river. The night of Kele’s 16th birthday his father Bodaway was found dead in his bed of natural causes. After his burial and ceremony Abornazine was made Chief and took his nephew Kele under his wing to groom him the way a father should to be the next Chief.

The People in the Trees

Pt 3
As the sun came Achak arrived at Bodaway’s tent, “come Kele, we must speak.” he said. Kele still sleepy, followed his grandfather. They didn’t go far from the village, they went to the clearing where they performed ceremonies, they could be alone there. “Sit down Kele.” Achak said,he sat on a log across from the boy. “I know how foolish boys can be, I was one at one time. I too idolized the great warrior Keta. I too went to the forbidden river to see demons. I went alone and if it were not for my grandfather I would not have returned.” Achak said.
“You did the same as I? You are the Chief and you did the same as I so am I to be punished.” Kele said. “Yes grandson you will be punished. I am not angry you were curious about demons. I am angry you disobeyed me, your father and our rules while endangering your life, the lives of your family and friends and your small brother who idolizes you. Most of all you scared me, one wrong move, action or words at that river could bring horrible consequences.” Achak said. Before Achak could say another word, Istas came running over covered in sweat and tears, “what is wrong, Istas?” Kele said.
“Chief Achak, come with me quickly.” Istas said she turned around and ran back toward the village. Achak motioned to Kele to follow him and they ran back to the village. Kele saw his mother and brother, uncle and aunt, Ella and her mother and Sabera and Hakan, parents of Elsu. Sabera was in tears crying out her son's name over and over. “What has happened?” Achak asked. “Father, Elsu has gone missing, there are no signs of the boy, no footprints, no blood. He just disappeared. We are all scared, demons may have taken him or he has ran away in fear of demons.” Abornazine said.
“I do not think Elsu ran away, if he had there would be footprints. Take Hakan and the army into the woods and start a search.” Achak said. “We should check the forbidden river, right father.” Abornazine said. “No, send a scout for the hunting party and call them back.” Achak said. “We know they were there father.” Abornazine said. “Yes we do, but I will not send a search party to the forbidden river without preparing. We need protection from the spirits before we go. I will wait for your brother to return.” Achak said. “I could go with you father, so we do not have to wait for Bodaway.” Abornazine said. “No my son you can not. I must wait for Bodaway for I will be taking his son Kele with me. You will be coming too, my son.” Achak said.
The Chief turned to his grandson Kele, “I need you to tell me everything that happened at the forbidden river and if Elsu did anything disrespectful.” Achak said. “We did nothing disrespectful grandfather.” Kele said. “You did nothing you see as disrespectful, but a demon can take the smallest gesture as disrespect.” Achak said. “Well, the only thing Elsu did was pick up a stick and put it in the water and he said, “see I knew demons did not exist.” Is that disrespectful grandfather?” Kele asked.
“Yes, perhaps grandson. Grab your spear and knife, you and I are starting out for the forbidden river. We need to get to your friend before he’s lost forever.” Achak said. Kele ran home to grab his spear, “Abornazine, I am taking Kele to the forbidden river now. I fear the boy does not understand the dangers that came with what he and his friends have done. Wait here for your brother and come after us.” Achak said. Abornazine nodded as Kele ran back “I am ready grandfather.” Kele said.
Achak and Kele started their journey to the forbidden river, “Kele, stop here and sit with me. I want to talk with you before we go any further.” Achak said. They sat on a couple of large rocks under tall trees. “I still do not think you understand what you and your friends have done, as I did not think of it when I was your age. I told you I went to the river to see the demon, my grandfather saved me from being taken by the demons. On our way home my grandfather told me what I am now going to tell you, Keta is not just a legend, he was a foolish man that children look up to. But adults know he was blinded by rage and he did not think of what would happen after he summoned forces he did not understand for revenge.” Achak said.
“But grandfather, his entire family was slain, he deserved vengeance.” Kele said. “See grandson just as I said, foolish children. Vengeance is sought by fools, all it brings is pain and sorrow, the death of Keta’s family was tragic but to seek vengeance from forces of evil he did not understand was foolish and dangerous. Whatever it was that answered Keta’s call was not one of our Gods, it was a tricky demon who prey on us at our most vulnerable.” Achak said. “That river has been cursed since the day of Keta’s ritual, that is why it is forbidden. I was the first foolish child to go to the river after my grandfather told me that Keta was my great grandfather. I thought maybe I could see him. I was foolish as were you.” Achak said.
