Deleted Snippet (Merthur)

I took this from something I’m writing, because these paragraphs kinda started taking it in a merthur-y direction i didn't want😂😂 i’m really excited about the fic this is from, though, so check out this snippet if you would like to get a little bit of a feel for it! it’ll be about four chapters overall, my longest so far, and i’m so happy with it so far :)

Destiny can never lead to anything real. Yes, Merlin loves Arthur, but he will always live with that leaden weight on his shoulders slowly crushing him. It would be more a burden than a relief to get together. Arthur loves Merlin, but his kingdom always has and always will come first. He feels his father still watching him, sometimes, and it never goes away. Neither are fooled, neither are surprised when Arthur ends up with Guinevere instead. It hurts, but it is enough to see each other every day. They whisper it to themselves at night, trying to make it true. 

They could never do casual flings, not with a love so big that might consume them if they tried. So they remained friends, good friends for the rest of their dutiful, destined lives.
