So for members of bdsm Dungeons, it's a rule that you don't approach other members if you see them on public for privacy reasons. They might not want people knowing they're a freak.
That said, it's normal to make friends in that space who you hang out with, outside of kink stuff. When that happens and people asked where I met my friend, my go-to line was "Spin-class," which is a very funny joke if you know me even a little. Very not my scene.
Well, funnily enough, while I was working at a homeless shelter, we had a very similar rule because of the homeless stigma. If a guest from the Shelter sees you outside of work, you don't acknowledge or approach them. They can approach you, but you don't tell whoever you're with where you know them. The guest gets to decide if they want to share that info.
Smash cut to me being out with a friend I met at the dungeon a very long time ago. I bump into a guest from the shelter who approaches me to chat. My friend asks how I know the guest, and without thinking, I blurt out "spin class" before remembering that's my go to lie for how I ment dungeon friends. These two proceed to have a conversation, neither fully understood.
Friend: ooohhhh okay i get it. Spin class! Me too. Stopped taking that class a while ago tho.
Guest. Oh for real? That's sick man, good for you! You got a good set up now?
Friend: The best!! I've taken up wood working so my furniture is all custom. Got plenty of space to do "spin" at home. It's coming together.
Guest: Hell yeah brother!!!
Friend: was really good to have my own space during the rona, but man it's lonely! I kinda miss the group dynamics.
Guest: Yeah, i heard that from my homie when he got out of "Spin class!" But it's for the best.
Friend: it can be, but its not for everybody. Can be safer to Spin in a group.
Guest: i know that. Lost a few homie to "spinning" alone. At least at the "class" you got other eyes on you.
Friend: I'm sorry to hear that! You know some elements of "Spinning" are risky but you never think anyone would get hurt. So, my buddy here still a real hard ass for safety?
Guest: oh man you dont even know. They revamped our whole fire escape plan.
Friend: Oh shit! They did that back when i was in Spin class too!
Guest: still improving the system i guess.
Friend: they still keep a bunch of robes outside in a shed so people who get out can cover up?
Guest: Yes!!!
Friend: Did you know it's their fault we have a 30 second rule!
Guest: Damn really!?! Makes sense tho, if there's a fire you gotta get out fast!
Friend: Yeah, I Never gave it much thought before they brought it up, but yeah the last thing you want is a fire when you're all tired up!
Guest: Yeah, that's true. I didn't know they came up with the rule, tho. I do like having the space between the beds clear...
Friend: Yeah it's so annoying when people block the path with their shit.
Guest: Yeah there's not enough space between beds for people to be hording shit.
Friend: Yeah! I loved that they always got people to keep their area clear.
Guest: not gonna lie i hate being told to clean up but it is better that way.
Friend: Yeah... haha.
Guest: well it was nice chatting with you brother.
Friend: you too, man! See ya around!
Guest: see ya!

joining tumblr for the first time now is like in movies when the city kid goes to the small small small town and someone there is like “we ain’t got nona that weefee or whatever but we’s got Jimbo who yells the news and that’s good enough” and points to Jimbo who is currently asleep on his rocker
Except for us it’s like “we ain’t got no al-go-rithm but we do have haiku-bot and that one destiel screengrab that tells us the news and that’s good enough”

idk why people are still trying to do "hear me out"s on tumblr
you could talk about wanting to fuck the space needle on here and people would still call you a poser for insisting on fucking "conventionally attractive architecture" as if that's a coherent, easily-recognizable category

Every time I see a post about updog I’m torn between not wanting to fall for it and wanting to help the poster complete their joke.

Hello I have some random stories of strangers I’ve met/seen
One time when walking by the ice cream place (in winter) there was a Girl Scout cookie sale in front of it and one of the kids (like 6) was trying to get people to buy the cookies so she kept shouting “THEYRE FREE!!!!” At everyone who passed and the adult in charge kept having to clarify that, no, the cookies were not free. Then when I walked back after finishing my errands, the kids were having a snowball fight, it was cute
Another time, an uber driver dropped a philosophy bomb on me and my dad. In karate Sensei always says that there are three sources of energy, mind body spirit, and how this 6 foot 2 super buff man found spiritual peace and balance by doing yoga. He explained the physical body (your physical wants, needs, etc.), your mind (your thoughts, like how you think of all your errands when doing mundane tasks) and spirit (you wants, needs, and emotions). He helped me see that my thoughts (the intrusive ones, the scary one, all of them) weren’t real unless I chose them to be, and that before you can do things like, focus on how others perceive you (like, physically for example), you gotta focus on the foundations (being in tune with your body, knowing what you like and need, and also knowing when to ignore one part of you, like ignoring your mind when you’re stretching and it kinda hurts, since if you keep stretching (in a healthy way), you’ll be alright). He was super cool. I’m kinda convinced he knows my Sensei because sometimes during karate, sensei also mentions stuff like that
also also, I was having a very bad day on a summer trip to Germany and was super bitter at everything and then some random 4 year old was in like, a kiddie wheelbarrow that her parent was pulling along, looked at me (I’m black, tall, a little funky looking, and was kinda angry-looking at that moment, so being in a place where most people are white I wasn’t expecting like, a good reaction to my existence), and she just smiled at me??? Randomly??? And had the most ADORABLE smile and waved at me and then she left.
I’m sure I have more stories like this but I can’t seem to remember any but uhmmm yeah!
Byeeeee
I love these 💜 it seems like it's fashionable to hate on kids these days, but they're really an endless source of good random interactions like this. I love that phase when babies have just learned how to wave and will do it to everyone, everywhere, including you when you're just randomly sitting on the bus together.
I think this also showcases what people mean when they say community is good for you? It's much easier to manage your mental health (or any problem) when you've got multiple types of people and their array of perspectives to help you.

Mutuals I wished some of you lived closer. So I could pick you up to go on walks together. I think we all need a nice walk in the woods or park with a friend.

When somebody shares a quote by a famous author like it's something the author personally said and believed, but you know it was actually spoken by a character you're not supposed to like... 😐

adults, while forcing all children above the age of 5 to sit still, be silent, and obey orders for 7-8 hours a day with minimal breaks, reducing their exposure to fresh air and sunlight to almost nothing, forcing them to alter their natural sleeping patterns to increase productivity, and repeatedly telling them their self worth depends on their being able to follow these instructions perfectly for 13 or more years: kids these days are so lazy! they never go outside! they never want to do anything! clearly it’s not because of us!
