I lie about my teaching
I lie about my teaching
Sometimes, I lie about my teaching. When I write about the beautiful and flawless learning that occurs within my classroom on a daily basis, I am not telling the whole story. Facts have been glossed. You, the audience, do not know the whole story. What you do not see is the daily grind. The mistakes. The average classroom management. The time-sucking transitions. The lack of differentiation. The

Transitions
280 days. 9 months and 5 days. 200 weekdays and 80 weekend days. 6,720 hours. 403,200 minutes. Where has the time gone? Sitting down to reflect upon the previous part of my life feels like an impossible task, but I must. Life goes on and memories are made. Where do I begin? One chapter of my life came to an end and another has started. Doors have opened and closed. Time has passed. Malaysia was…

A natural wonderland created by stone and erosion, Arches National Park offers unforgettable experiences. When visiting the park this summer, photographer Derek Cronk looked up and saw a shimmering rainbow framed in the massive window of Delicate Arch. “I felt lucky to be in such an incredible location as it was, but it took my breath away to be presented with such an amazing opportunity.” Lucky and good is a great combination. Isolated Buildings of Chicago
In the words of the artist David Schalliol:
The Isolated Building Studies are the visual confluence of my interests in urban dynamism, socioeconomic inequality and photography. By using uniform composition in photographs of Chicago buildings with no neighboring structures, I hope to draw attention to new ways of seeing the common impact of divergent investment processes on urban communities.
Isolated buildings are particularly useful for the exploration of neighborhood transformation and its social correlates because they are immediately recognized as unusual. As urban buildings, their form illustrates their connection with adjacent structures: vertical, boxy, an architecture confined by palpably limited parcels. When their neighboring buildings are missing, a tension emerges: the urban form clashes with the seemingly suburban, even rural setting. Thoughtfully engaging the landscape requires further investigation to resolve this tension: Why is this building isolated? It is from this fundamental friction that the Isolated Building Studies launches.

This #quipu absolutely blew my mind today! The Incas were some incredible mathematicians/accountants/civic engineers. Incredible that we still haven't figured out what each of the knots symbolize. #LivingTheGoodLifeInLima #🏡 #🗺 (at MALI - Museo de Arte de Lima)

90 Days in Peru Jan De Roos
Check out this tumblr!
After traveling more then 12 months through Chile, Argentina and Bolivia, I finally made into Peru. During these 3 months I discovered a country that has many faces. The desert-like coastline, the highlands in the north and the breathtaking Andes Cordillera and the dense jungle full of spectacular wildlife. Curious, welcoming and warm people, we met them every day. Traveling here was like a dream, one moment you walked right in to the past when exploring old ruins where civilizations once where thriving or entering little and isolated villages where few foreign people came. The landscapes and culture that this beautiful country has are immensely diverse.

From Mount Everest to the Scottish Highlands
I am always at home in mountainous regions of the world. The isolation is like no peace you can possibly find anywhere else.

Every Thing We Touch: A 24-Hour Inventory of Our Lives Paula Zuccotti
Can objects tell the story of our lives?
Driven by this idea, I travelled around the world to find people from an incredible array of ages, cultures, professions and backgrounds. I asked them to document every object they touched in 24 hours. Then I gathered those objects together and photographed them in a single shot.
From a toddler in Tokyo to a cowboy in Arizona, from a cleaner in London to a cloister nun in Madrid, Every Thing We Touch is their story told through the objects they own, consume, need, choose, treasure and can’t let go. Each image is mystery, a story, a work of art. Each is a moment in time: a life and a world reflected back at us.
