Hel couldn't help but laugh at Arwyn's playful banter, his lighthearted teasing bringing a warmth to her heart that she cherished more than anything. As he leaned in for a kiss, she playfully dodged his attempt, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she leaned back just out of reach.
"Nice try," she teased, her laughter echoing in the crisp air around them. "But you'll have to earn that kiss, my love."
His words of unwavering support and willingness to follow her wherever she may lead filled her with a sense of gratitude that she struggled to put into words. It was moments like these, with Arwyn by her side, that reminded her of the depth of their connection and the strength of their bond.
"I wouldn't have it any other way," she replied softly, her gaze meeting his with a tenderness that spoke volumes of her love for him. "You're not a stinky bug, you're my shining star."
With a gentle squeeze of his hand, Hel leaned in to press a loving kiss against his lips, savoring the sweetness of the moment before pulling away with a smile.
"Come on," she said, excitement bubbling in her chest as she intertwined her fingers with his. With gentility that was not always present, she cradled his cheek. "Close your eyes, and hold on to me." Her voice was soft yet reassuring and with a sound like a drifting breeze, the air around them seemed to pulsate briefly before the world righted itself.
"Here we are," There was a reverence as well as a beat of hesitation before she coaxed him to open his eyes. There were miles away from the island, as the foliage showed. Judging from the view they were also miles away from the ground. A mountaintop with a shaded ledge, overlooking a quaint town, twinkling with soft lights, the moon shining brightly below.
Hel couldn't help but smile at Arwyn's teasing, his playful nature always managing to lighten her mood. She leaned into his touch, savoring the warmth of his affection as she considered his question.
"It's not that Snaer and I don't get along," she replied with a small chuckle, "It's just... complicated." Her expression softened as she met his gaze, grateful for his understanding.
As Arwyn wrapped his arms around her, Hel's heart swelled with love for him, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her despite the looming plans ahead.
"Niko's plans are a surprise," she admitted, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "But I promise it'll be worth the wait."
At his request to know their destination before shadow-traveling, Hel couldn't help but laugh softly at his persistence. She placed a gentle kiss on his cheek before pulling away slightly to look into his eyes.
"Very well," she relented, a playful smirk dancing on her lips. "Our destination is... one of my favorite places here in Midgard. I wanted to share it with you if you would like?."
With a wink, Hel extended her hand to Arwyn, her excitement for their Valentine's Day adventure growing with each passing moment.
"Shall we?" she asked, a hint of anticipation lacing her voice as she prepared to embark on their journey together.

"ah, so you're not heartless after all."
Hel's lips quirked into a faint smirk as she regarded the demigod with an inscrutable gaze, the flicker of amusement dancing in her eyes.
"Indeed," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of mystery. "Even death has its moments of compassion."
Though her demeanor remained stoic, a subtle warmth emanated from Hel's presence, hinting at depths of emotion beneath her icy exterior. In the realm of the Norse death god, where darkness and light intertwined in an eternal dance, even the most hardened hearts could find solace in the embrace of understanding.
"How can I help you today?"

Hel smiled, this time more brightly and it definitely transformed her usually austere face. Nuzzling into his touch, she relaxes, almost completely forgetting her initial plan of starting her Valentine's Day with him.
"Yes, my Valentine," She clarified kissing his cheek once more. At the mention of Snaer, she initially considered showing her disdain for the cat, but Snaer had given her assistance, so it was ceasefire for now.
"No backups," Her expression darkened but it smoothed itself as she slid into his lap, stroking his hair gently. "Perhaps we can just stay here for the night?" She suggested softly breathing in his scent.
A soft meow from Snaer and a yip from Niko reminded Hel of her plans and she gives a sigh. "Maybe later, I really shouldn't mess the plans Niko had for us." This time, she sneaks a kiss on his lips, lingering gently before pulling away and standing out.
"Do you want to try shadow-traveling with me?" It was just step one of her Valentine's Day plans.

❛ how can you be so smart yet so dumb at the same time? ❜
"I should say the same thing about you," Hel wasn't at all bothered by the insult. In fact the goddess seemed more amused than anything. "You didn't know it was not microwavable either." Her eyes drifted towards the burning charred mess of what was supposed to be a dessert of some sort.
"Haven't you been in Midgard far longer than I am? How can you not know about these things?" She gives a shake of her head and with a wave of her hand the burned thing disappear.
"Perhaps we should order take out. There is a favorite spot Arwyn and I go to." She stood up and fished her phone up. "Why did you call for me Susanoo? I'm afraid I am not one for hell-raising, as associated it is with my name."

a vday celebration with @mparwyn
While Lunar New Year Celebrations were easy for the Nilfheim goddess to understand, Valentine's Day was yet another feat entirely. Hel was curious about the whole thing--previously only favoring the holiday due to the excess of sweets. This year however she was curious on how to do the whole thing because she had Arwyn.
It was a holiday for lovers. Hel had a lover, with that logic, she had to celebrate him. In all honesty, she would celebrate him everyday. But she knew this day had to be special for him.
She thought of things for several days, even imploring the aid of his demon cat Snaer to distract Arwyn as she got ready for the surprise. She had done her research:
A favorite place
A favorite food
Favorite music
Among a list of others. Hel wanted to give a boatload of romance and she was going to all out. At the eve of Valentine's day, she shoos Snaer to pad over to Arwyn, a little envelope strapped around her neck. Niko had huffed his disapproval--always wanting to walk with the cat, but Hel needed the hellhound's assistance for things on her end.
The card was merely a time and place to meet. Hel fluffed her hair as she looked over her preparations for another time. It was going to be a success.

She knew Snaer had actually done something right and had given the invitation. Smiling to herself that that part of the plan was successful, she peeked at the doorway of their now shared bedroom towards Arwyn.
"Well, it's a surprise." The corners of her lips tweaked up for a brief smile. "I figured that it is the holiday, it would do us right for me to try and experience it." Her body soon followed her peeking body, dressed in something more casual today.
"Will you let me try?" Her voice was soft with affection as she stepped towards him on the couch. After a brief glare between her and Snaer, she leaned towards Arwyn, her arms trapping him on the couch and she rests her forehead against his.
Her fingers rested on his cheek, before leaning to place a soft kiss on his other cheek. She was still getting used to displaying acts of affection. But with Arwyn, it was easier.
"Will you be...as they say..my heart today?" She asked softly, completely missing the saying.

❛ oh great, it's you again. ❜ He chuckles.
"Well yes," Hel replied nonplussed, her brow slightly furrowed. "It was bound to happen---this is a small island." She added with a shrug, not before trying to hide the huge bouquet of flowers in her arms.
"I would ask why you are here, but I suppose my presence is the strange one." She added, refusing to acknowledge the blossoms in her hand, despite a few petals brushing against her face.
"What's the occasion?" Her grey eyes drifted towards his own arms.

"Thank you, you are quite kind and I apologize for this delay in your day." Hel's usual stoic face flickered into something close to worry. "I am sure you must understand that when a soul does not rest it causes quite a stir in the land of the living."
She follows the other, nodding to her words. Broken hearts..."There are many a soul in Nilfheim that walked in her realm with the grief of a broken heart as their death.
Her eyes drift towards the hospital bed. Before her lay a demigod on the cusp of life and death, their fragile form connected to the machines that sustained them. Hovering above was the restless spirit of their sibling, bound by love and fear, unable to transcend the threshold.
"Do you see it?" Hel asked gently, grey eyes flitting towards at the ethereal form tethered to the land of the living by threads of unresolved emotions. She was not speaking of the form but rather the almost ribbon of light that extended from the spirit to the patient on the bed.
Hel sighs, being on the side of the realms made it more difficult for her to send spirits to the Underworld, despite knowing that it was for their eternal rest.
"The living must learn to let go," she murmured, her voice carrying the chill of the underworld. "And the departed must find their path beyond. And I am their guide." She offers a hand to the spirit, even as their the spirit seemed to hover over the patient's heart.
"Would you assist me please? I would be grateful the help.." Hel murmured softly towards Xiwangmu.
Hel surveyed the newest medical director of Asclepius with contemplative grey eyes. She had had encounters with her predecessors in the past and they usually stayed out of each other's way. This one seemed to place a great deal of importance to protocols and Hel supposed she could sympathize. The Pits were also run on rigid protocols for all its propensity for chaos and violence.
And so Hel accepts the sticker and places the bright thing atop her outfit. Her face was still austere, not softened at all by the cheery sticker. Xiwangmu introduces herself and Hel gives a deep nod of acknowledgement.
"Greetings, My name is Hel." She introduced herself simply. Hel assessed that it would it would be in her best interest to not antagonize the medical director. Especially since things might proceed more smoothly with her assistance.
And so she explains the situation. That the soul Hel was tracking was not a patient of the hospital but rather died before reaching it. Hel had arrived to escort the soul home but it refused until his business was resolved. In this case, it was to see their sister who was admitted at the hospital and he had been rushing to see her.
"Would you be able to point me the whereabouts of this patient? The soul might be lingering close."

❛ well, someone's cranky today. ❜
"Apologies," Hel says with an incline of her head though the dark look remained on her face. It had not been a good morning, given that Arwyn had to rush from their bed early. Both of them were heavy sleepers and the fact that her boyfriend had to leave the comfort of their bed was something. Hel had hoped that she would meet him at the Pits by now, but it seemed the Norse demigod was still off somewhere. Hel was not controlling by any means, and she didn't have a habit of calling and finding out his whereabouts every five minutes. It was just that she missed him already, and their cat was also cranky when her favorite human denied her affection.
"Let's have a meal." Hel spoke abruptly to the goddess, having just bumped into her down the street. The tone she gave was rather curt, but anybody who knew Hel long enough would know that was how her tone normally was.

Hel smirked, not at all offended by the way Tsukuyomi spoke. She didn't spend as much time with mortals as he did, so the nuances of polite talk was not something she liked to do. So she was hardly offended if she was treated the same.
"I am above-world to study after all," She shrugs with a knowing look at him. She gives a mock-sigh before leaning towards him. "Has anybody told you you get too dependent on people?" She comments lightly before straightening up.
"You should practice a bit of hedonism every once in a while. Makes for a more interesting life. Look at your brother. Or that fox person you call your ward."
❛ if i didn't know any better, i'd say you were jealous. ❜
Tsukuyomi was back from his long trek in Fukushima, and although many daunting things waited for him, oddly, he was least looking forward to getting to be in Hel’s presence again. Like he’d aged even further in just a month’s time, he was too tired to get witty with this bratty goddess, and his back slumped in defeat, a sigh of woe leaving his lips.
“Yes, Hel, jealous of you and your lover,” he tossed out quietly but with exasperation, the sarcasm spilling from his words. Hel’s tendency to get smart with him was getting worse and worse, and this only person with the nerve to tease him about Psyche’s departure now stood, smug and amused, and if he told the truth, it always got to him; perhaps not the actual jab, but the way she always knew how to get on his nerves. “Don’t fool me - that on your ring finger is my work.”

Hel to her credit didn't seem at all offended by Tsukuyomi's tone. In fact she gives an almost friendly nod at him. "You should try it," She intoned again, as if quite believing that sex solved everything.
Psyche had been a friend to Hel, one of the first she had made when she had arrived on the island. But it would be foolish for her to search for the goddess if she did not want to be found at the moment. Hel had enough dealings with human conversation to know it would be ill advised to say as much to her boss.
"Would you prefer to come let out your feelings elsewhere? A fight or two? I do own a fighting arena as well you know. Or you can go find your sister and pick another fight with her. Whatever helps you and your foul mood."
❛ if i didn't know any better, i'd say you were jealous. ❜

Hel relaxed somewhat as the other goddess offered her assistance, and she follows her towards the ward in general. Hel was still not used to mortal terms but she interpret Xi Wangmu's words as the patient was not long for this world. She gives a nod as she understood the situation. It seemed pointless for her to comment that perhaps she would be leaving Asclepius with two souls to rest instead of one.
"May I?" She asks, indicating the patient and if she could step closer. She had sensed the soul she was initially tracking hovering close and sure enough her eyes rested on an empty bed, but to Hel it was not empty. The soul sat there, looking anguished as he stared at the patient on the bed, looking morose at the wires everywhere.
"Hello little one," Hel's voice was soft and gentle and her eyes met the other goddess, a silent request for her to perform the rites of passing if possible.

Hel arched an eyebrow at Tsukuyomi's expression, eyes drifting towards her recently manicured nails. "Why so curious?" She paused before the faint smirk flashed across her face. "I suppose when one has been deprived of intimate relations for so long, one gets curious about every story related to it. Hel gives another shrug. "I perfectly understand,"
She gave a dismissive gesture of her hand at his ribbing of her expertise. The gems in the rings of her hand (in-house collection) glinted across the light. "Oh I highly recommend it." She nodded and surveyed the moon god. "I believe you would benefit greatly after a night of carnal pleasures. You'd be less stiff for one."
❛ if i didn't know any better, i'd say you were jealous. ❜

A continuation from here for the queen of Niflheim @mpxhel
The woman standing near her certainly had the aura of a death goddess, yet also a child. How interesting...a death goddess in the hospital. She could not help but wonder why--or more importantly, just who this goddess was--but it was not in her best interests, nor the best interests of the patients and staff of Asclepius, to cause a scene in the midst of this hall. Besides, she had hoped to get along well with the other pantheons; meeting Athena and Susanoo had been quite pleasant. She hoped this interaction would be the same.
Neither patient...nor visitor? And not an employee (certainly not, she wasn't aware of any other gods or goddesses on the roster in any case)? Then what in all the realms was this deity doing there? Ah, but when the woman pointed and explained that a wandering soul nearby was 'one of hers', Xiwangmu's demeanor changed and a warm smile spread upon her features, a sparkle to kind chestnut eyes. "Visitor, then," she countered as she took a few steps forward and dipped her hand into the pocket of her white coat to produce a simple visitor's sticker. "I like to carry a few of these around, just in case," she insisted, offering it to the goddess with a soft wink.
"I am Xiwangmu, medical director here at Asclepius. How can I help?" Couldn't have the poor souls wandering lost, now, could they? Being the queen of paradise within her own pantheon, she understood the worry that came with one wandering outside their realm.

"Disruptors shall be punished." Hel's tone brooked no argument even as she held the offender by the scruff of the neck, lifting him several inches off the ground. There was a hush as several patrons scrambled away from Hel's periphery, but otherwise went about their business. It seemed a regular occurrence for The Pits' owner to come down from her office to punish miscreants.
In truth the ruffian was suspected to be cheating with the bets for several weeks now. Hel had noticed the irregularities but hadn't collected enough evidence to throw the offender out. Until now that is.
She squeezes just a bit, enough for the squirming man to thrash even further. Ignoring the flailing man, she turns to her employee, eyes quickly assessing for any damage.
"Shall I take care of this one or would you like to do the honors?"
