So this is an embarrassing post but I’m fairly new to tuning and might need some help😅 Getting my restricted 35kw mt07 -23 today and have been looking at a mivv gp pro or delta race full exhaust system, and have been planning to unrestrict the throttle plate and maybe the airbox snorkel later on as well.
My question is how important would a tune really be? Will I not gain as much HP without a tune as I would with one or would I loose HP in general if I don’t tune? Would want to avoid the tune as it’d void the warranty of the bike instantly.
Again, embarrassing question but I’d really like some answers!
Hey Bro, thx for reminding me this blog exists. Why would you want to ‘tune’ the restricted version of the bike in the first place? Any performance gains would be dwarfed by eventually unrestricting it. Get the exaust for the looks and sound and hold off on the other mods until you can ride the unrestricted version of the bike. When the time comes, I recommend you get a re-tune so your engine runs neither lean nor rich. Have fun!

Is the screen in your feature image the fabbri? it looks different to the one suggested.
That’s the original Yamaha sport screen (old model). I don’t recommend the Fabbri (or any other big screen) anymore. Well..it depends.
The Fabbri did a great job of giving me protection from the wind and making riding more enjoyable. It also gave me turbulence induced speed wobbles limiting me to going 120mph. Remember: Screens are mounted directly to the handlebars, not the frame. MT07s have super-sensitive steering with no damper. That doesn’t go well with big screens, seeing as the lightest (hand-) steering input upsets the bike.
On a side note, I can wholeheartedly recommend raising the forks by 5mm. The front wheel is way to light/neutral from the factory. Makes the bike much more stable and steerable.

Did you get 5d__14 malfunction code after replacing the airbox?
No I didn’t, this error code means an error with the intake air pressure sensor/hose system. Perhaps you forgot to stuff the hose leading to the solenoid valve? Carefully re-read my blog post and have a look at the answer below you:

Hey. Thanks for the post. Following it and super easy. Just wanted to ask a question about the Thin and Large hoses. I can see the large hose for the cylinder. Can you provide another link for the mini K&N filter. The link you have is no longer available on K&N. I can't seem to see the Thin hose? I don't recall having to remove one. I have a 2016 model. Maybe there isn't one? Cheers
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback. I went back to said post and fixed all the links. Regarding the hoses.. have a look at the intake section of the parts catalogue. #29 is the thin hose, #31 the thick one.

Hello there! First off, thank you so much for this blog, it’s packed with awesome infos and have helped me a lot deciding what to do with my bike! Now, I do have a few questions that remain unanswered regarding the remap of my AFR. I just got my FTECU flashing kit, installed it and removed the restriction: great upgrade!! However, I cannot seem to find what I’m looking for as far as adapted map for my setup. I’m running on a full Akrapovic Carbon and DNA air filter with snorkel removed. thanks!!
Sorry mate, but I have 0 experience with FTECU. If their map database doesn’t contain a map that fits your setup try probing [their forum](https://forum.ftecu.com/categories/ecu-maps). Perhaps a more experienced user already created the map you’re looking for. Let me know how things go!

AIR FILTER INSIDE DIA = 46mm !!!
K&N Clamp-on Pod Filters

Note
What is the OD of the Throttle Body? Or ID of the Clamp On Air filter? I see the runner in the air-box, did you feel significant low end torque loss? Gas mileage change? I'm trying to do the same thing but don't know how to manipulate the Power Commander to compensate for the leaner environment...
46mm
Significant torque gain throughout the rev range. I was able to drive one gear higher after the mod. Much smoother idle, now pulls from ~2k rpm as opposed to 4k. Throttle response remains “binary” (either “on” or “off”) thoug---this can only be alleviated completely by de-cating the exhaust. No way around tuning your bike properly on a dyno ;)

Hello my friend ive been reading your blog for some time. And even asked you some questions wich in the end you replied and gave me a good help. Since that time and by reading you blog i got an akrapovic ti dna air lid and filter and power commander loaded with the akra map. Anyway ive been cobsidering the air box mod or the hordpower (wich will be hard to get since i live in Portugal. So do you think kn pod filters would give me better results than dna?
Nope, there won’t be any difference. You already de-lided the airbox and installed a more permissive air filter which is the most important upgrade. I chose pod filters mostly for the look.

Can anyone help me? I want to upgrade my air intake on my MT07 with 2 pod filters, What are the dimensions of the manifold so I can get the correct filters. Or if anyone has a link to the correct filters. Thankyou

Hey I have done a bit to my mt07 2016 learner model and I'm in a bit off a pickle and could use some advice I have done upgraded my snorkels air box and filter full exhaust power commander and had a dyno done and all that and other bits and pieces the problem is as won't start it's reading error code "SD__33and 34" flicking back and forth I have looked and think it is saying that the problem it's my ignition coils 1 and 2 I was just wondering where to start I changed my plugs ??5
Sry man first time I hear this and it does sound kinda serious. When did this happen?, right after the tuning? What does your tuner say? An official mechanic is not an option for you?

Hello first of all congratulations on your work simply amazing ive read read all your post religiously! Now my two questions got a mt 07 with an akrapovic ti baffle in fitted, i was reading about the intake mods and that it really improves power in comparison with the exhaust, do you think with a simple snorkle removal or a dna filter could cope with my MT 07 without remap?
My friend, thank you for the warm words. Congratulations on your MT, have fun!Installing a DNA filter and removing the snorkel (simply cut a big hole in the lid and stuff the solonoid valve — much cheaper than the DNA lid) will give you by far the biggest bang for the buck performance wise. After my air filter mod I felt a huge difference in low end torque, the engine was running smoother, and I could drive one gear higher than before.I do highly recommend a remap though, considering how drastically the AFR changes. I live in Crete myself and we have the same problem of a lack of professional mechanics/tuners. That’s why I fix everything myself — can’t trust anybody here. For all my tuning work I send my ECU to 2WheelDynoWorks in the US. One tune is 250$ + infinite updates. The postage shouldn’t be too high either for such a small item. It takes a few weeks for the round trip but it’s winter anyway, isn’t it?^^The reservoir fits perfectly into one of the peg screw holes ;) merry christmas

hey guys!!..i will be getting my yamaha mt-07 soon and i was wondering if any retune / flash are required if i change the stock exhause pipe?...wont be anytime soon before i get a new pipe so i am just asking around. It would be a full exhaust akra. i have been reading around but i cant seem to get any answer that is informative.
Hey Mate, for a full system I would definitely recommend a reflash. A full system does change your air fuel ratio significantly. A reflash will protect your engine from running lean/rich, increase your power and improve your throttle response. I would also recommend you cut a hole in your air filter lid and remove the snorkel for cheap, extra power ;)

Hey, what diameter should I get for the cone filter? It would be amazing if you could share the link to the right filter if possible. Thank you so much! Patrick
Hey Mate, you need a [pod filter with a flange inside diameter of 46mm]( https://www.knfilters.com/mobile/mProduct.aspx?prod=RC-2320). But beware!, I know that some variants of the MT (such as the Australian restricted version) need an inside diameter of 43mm. Best to measure first! Simply unclamp the rubber flanges from the airbox and measure the outside diameter of the throttle bodies which will give you the inside diameter of the pod filters. And don’t forget to adjust your air fuel ratio! Cheers.

How did you get the pipes for your Akrapovic Carbon Race Exhaust a goldish color? The ones i find online look more titanium or something. Thanks!
That’s how burnt pipes look! It will happen naturally over time.. but don’t worry, you can restore the original condition with a metal polish, such as “Autosol Anti-Blau”:![exhaust pipe before/after polish](https://i.imgur.com/qBvyVAul.jpg)

How would I remove the air box assembly if I did not want to cut it apart?
User catfish from fz07.org [has done it](https://fz07.org/thread/5214/fz07-tuning-adventures-hordpower-airbox/). And it seems that he only removed the decorative parts, side covers, and throttle bodies (, and possibly slightly pushed the fuel tank and battery box out of the way, judging by the photos).Personally, fumbling with the throttle bodies (and thus throttle cable, power and fuel suppies) wasn't worth the hassle to me considering a new airbox costs $40 (part no. 1Ws-14401-00). To quote catfish:> The throttle bodies must be completely disconnected, airbox slid back as far as possible, and then learn new Japanese curse words to get throttle bodies out. Then the airbox can finally be removed with great difficulty & more new Japanese curse words.

Hi! I read your blog about the pod air filters, I got an XSR 700 that I want to put pod filters on... Also when I do this I'm going to flash the ECU and put an auto tune on it... Is this worth it, what is your experience on it, what is the pros and cons? Regards, Micael
Hi Micael, nice bike! I’m sure the pod filters will look even better on yours than on mine ;)Your ECU needs be flashed no matter what, since you can’t tune your fuel ratio with an after-market controller below 6k rpm otherwise (“closed loop range”). And since you will already be flashing your ECU you might as well load the new fuel map directly into the ECU without the need for a controller alltogether. So consider twice whether you want to spend the money on an auto-tune kit.Generally I recommend auto-tune to people who 1. don’t have access to a tuner 2. frequently change their bike’s setup (such as track riders who will swap parts (mufflers/db killers) in-between sessions and need to update their fuel map accordingly).Number 1 is easily solved nowadays with all the ECU mail-in services such as 2 wheel dynoworks. Also, a good tuner with a dyno will create a much better map than that produced by auto-tune.So my recommendation to you is flash your ECU and load the new fuel map directly into it. If you can, find a local tuner to do this for you. If not, use one of the many mail-in services. I personally like 2 wheel dyno works although they got a bit expensive recently. If you can’t find a service that has a fuel map for the pod filters, just tell them to load one for the DNA stage1+2 (filter+lid) air filter. The two are close enough and they will certainly have a map for the latter one due to its popularity.Oh and the air filter upgrade was definitely worth it!
