like I think it is good and important to be able to criticise porn and erotica for the relationship to the political environment/context of creation etc, but I think thatโs not too different from criticising any other art on these grounds. how is the erotica speaking to conventions of the genre? what is the author trying to tell you in what they hold up as attractive? what might the author be saying that theyโre not necessarily aware that theyโre saying? how does the narrative relate to other dominant cultural narratives? these are all valuable questions to ask and can be answered in nuanced ways that do not involve kink-shaming & do not involve calling people degenerate perverts. yknow.

yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldnโt have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandmaโs house. donโt worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.

notice how when a transfeminine person is subjected to a callout post or "cancellation", she is usually accused of holding some point of privledge (ex. "male socialization") which she's accused of utilizing to oppress other, "more marginalized" groups, generally cis women and children.
because she is labelled as being in a place of privledge like this, any criticisms or resitance she has to the act of being dehumanized, stalked, harrassed, threatened, and attacked is also, automatically, seen as an act of privledge that can immediately be dismissed as "anti cancel culture reactionism" a la joe rogan and other right wing manosphere influencers (regardless of the actual similarities or lack thereof between the different arguments being made). this then further "proves the point" of whoever initiated the harrassment campaign. if she wasn't acting out toxic male socialization, why would she be "aligning" herself with toxic men?
through this it becomes a losing game. the more you resist, the more rightous and vindicated the stalkers feel.
the threat at the heart of all this is that the only thing the transfeminine person is "allowed" to do is shut up and take the abuse. no matter what anyone does to her, in what ways she is materially harmed or threatened or hit, she can't stand up for herself; she can't even question the validity of this as "justice". and the justice doesn't rest until she is out of a job and home and community and money. it doesn't stop until she's dead or as close to it as possible.
this is obviously transmisogyny.
the fact that this is normalized is horrific. the fact that questioning this is seen as suspect is horrific. why is it that "believe victims" applies unquestionably to TME people who identify as victims, but never ever applies to TMA people who call themselves victims?

Yesterday I was with my friends near the place where the displaced people are. We were playing football. Night came, so I greeted them one by one, as if I was saying goodbye to them.
I went home, sat on Tumblr for a while, then suddenly fell asleep at 1:30 a.m. A house next to us, not 50 meters away, was bombed. It was my friendsโ house, so I ran quickly, my tears falling, drop by drop. They took one out, so I looked at him and found that he was my new friend, whom I had only met two weeks ago. Then they took out his little sister, who was no more than 10 years old. My heart was beating so fast that it almost stopped. Then they took out the rest. There were about 10-12 dead people, and my mind has not stopped thinking until now Please I want to live

One of those insidious little things I notice sometimes is how much the window of 'appropriate for children' content has shrunk within the past 20 years. The range of things it is socially acceptable to show a 10-year-old has never been more limited, and it's happened incredibly quickly.
Take, for instance, Star Trek: TNG. I grew up watching TNG. I was a little young for it as it was airing, but it got syndicated almost immediately and they would show an episode most weekday evenings on the Space Channel, and I'd watch it with my lifelong Trekkie mom. This was a very common thing. I was by no means unusual for watching Star Trek as a child.
Star Trek: TNG has lots of sex in it! It's never explicit (unless you have a particularly niche interpretation of some of the borg stuff) but on many an occasion you'll have a few characters doing a bit of making out followed by a closing door or fade to black, and then they wake up in bed together. If you know what sex is, you know that is what is being implied here. Even my 8-year-old self, whose understanding of the subject mostly came from books of ancient mythology that used words like 'ravish' and 'the pleasures of the couch' a whole bunch, could tell that what was happening was sex.
And I am not bringing this up as a 'see, I watched all this inappropriate stuff and I turned out just fine!'. I'm bringing it up to argue that TNG's level of sexual content is not inappropriate for children (I'm not using the legalese 'minors', because I think that lumping children and teenagers together in this conversation would make it nonsense. Star Trek is obviously appropriate for teenagers. Don't use 'minors' when you mean either children or teens, it just muddies the waters).
The point is that Star Trek: TNG was very obviously designed to be watched by children and teenagers. There's a whole character in the main cast whose role in the show is to be an audience insert for children and teenagers. The moral tone of TNG, its occasional dips into 'don't do drugs, kids' type messaging, and its general avoidance of graphic violence all scream 'we are designing this with an audience of children - but not just children - in mind'. It's a family show. It's supposed to be watched by the whole family.
Which means that, until at least the end of the 90s, this amount of sexual content was generally considered appropriate for kids to see. It's not pornographic - it's not even graphic. Maybe the very most conservative parents wouldn't let their kids watch TNG, but that might have had more to do with all the socialism and atheism.
So, why did that change? Why do we now have such a strong bullwark between 'things kids are allowed to know about' and 'things for GROWN UPS ONLY 18+ Minors DNI', and why have we relegated even the most discreet references to sex to the second category only?
And the next time you find yourself experiencing that knee-jerk 'think of the children' reaction, consider: would what you're looking at have been ok on Star Trek: TNG in the 90s?
