wplace is so interesting bc it was like a playground free-for-all. a strict economy that both encouraged making representations of things you cared about, and to constantly draw stuff to not miss out on your refills. it was furtive ground to spawn phenomena of simple repeating patterns like those gray guys or void--or pride flags for that matter. the question is how to negotiate a limited creative space, what kind of project takes precedence? how much do you respect the work of others? it seems like what ended up on top was the simple but productive, the creatively bankrupt able to organise mass drives to take over space for no other reason than to lay claim to it. a fascinating mirror to real world capitalism and colonialism.

People are so much more sad, and desparate, and lonely than you think. I have had three incidents in the last four months were a technician I was working with was being either dangerously unfocused (we work with high voltage), or just flat out angry with their coworkers, and every time when I just pulled them aside to say hey, this isn't you, you're nice, and you're competent, so something must be up - what can I do to help - they have responded by bursting into tears. One guy was struggling to get his wife moved into a care home, one guy just got served divorce papers, and the other hadn't slept a wink the night before because his daughter had the pukes.

I haven't spent my whole life responding to people being rude, or stupid, or dangerous with knee jerk compassion. It's a new habit. The first time I did that as the lead for my lab, it was because the guy genuinely was so good natured that I knew something had to be off. But the other two times were just me going, alright, lets see if it always goes this well, and so far, it has. I'm almost 30, and I just figured out that the #1 reason people are shitty are because they are going through shit.

I don't think you have, like, a moral obligation to respond to people being jerks with knee jerk compassion. But it has made my life so much easier the last four months that I would recommend trying. For your own sake. Please.

Most fantasy magicians are functionally engineers. You go to school, learn a trade, and apply that trade for money. I assume many of them would have government good state jobs zapping trash into other dimensions and charging by the ton per hour. Economically similar to designing and maintaining roads.

This might be a hot take but I think vivziepop is the perfect company to make a Homestuck show. Anyone else would be too worried about “respecting the legacy of this beloved institution” they’d make it too palatable. Homestuck should be giving unsuspecting civilians major psychic damage, as it has been doing since its impetus, centuries ago.

Is there a lot of excellent writing in there? Of course! Is it also a touchstone for many people’s most embarrassing moments and personal humiliations? Also yes!

The cringe gives Homestuck a certain something….a how do you say….je ne sais quoi….I predict Vivziepop will elevate this cringe to heretofore unreached new heights, and even those Homestuck fans long desensitized to cringe will hear themselves saying “uh-I-I promise it’s good! If you just - give it….a chance…” in a way they haven’t since middle school.

Balance will be restored. Spencer’s Gifts will see a brief but bright renaissance. Thousands will die at cons because ChatGPT told them to cover themselves in gray lead paint for an accurate cosplay.
