Mundungus Fletcher is, in a few words, a bit of a dick. He’s not overtly rude, nor is he particularly aggressive, but he knows what he wants and he’ll do whatever he needs to get it. A lot of times, this requires lying and bluffing and general deceit. This is what Mundungus is best at. Sometimes, this means he needs to be charming as all get out. He’s not quite as great at this. Mundungus is many things, but ‘charming’ is rarely one of them. He certainly has a number of jokes and quips up his sleeve, but they’re rarely flattering. They are, mostly, the types of things you’d say in a seedy and darkly lit bar (which, coincidentally, is usually where he learns them).

And, with the territory of complete and utter selfishness, comes a certain level of cowardice (a Gryffindor Mundungus was not). He knows how to talk a big game, but he’ll allow his lackeys to do most of the dirty work for him. The less danger he’s in, the better. If he does find himself in some sort of fight, he aims not to kill, but to find his way out as soon as possible. Mundungus might be a crime lord, but this does not always make a killer. If given the choice between fight or flight, Mundungus will always choose to fly. 

His line of work also introduces him to people from all corners of the Wizarding World. If there’s a person with a name and a face, then Mundungus has likely had at least one run-in with them. This, of course, doesn’t mean the situation went well. It doesn’t mean the people always like him. It, really, just means he’s well-connected. He would have never made it this far if he wasn’t.

But none of this means that Mundungus is closed off, not in the slightest. With his position of power, he certainly must take measures to protect himself, but he’s not about to allow this all to cut into his personal life. Mundungus always comes first, remember? He has a number of close friends and a longer list of former lovers. He’s a man who doesn’t take much seriously - except for his money and his relationships. It’s not the easiest to get close to him, but it makes all the difference once people do. He’s a coward and a cheat and a wildly selfish man, but he can also be fiercely loyal. If he cares about someone, in some shape or form, he will always be there for them - until they give him a reason not to be.
