I love HTTYD, and have for a while. I've been writing fanfiction for about 7-8 years, which I post on FF.net, AO3, and Wattpad. Pen name: Daystid Hofferson

Proposal for new fandom etiquette:
If you read a fic because it was linked/recced somewhere, you leave a comment saying "came from XXX" and that comment doesn't need to include anything else.
Because when all of a sudden there's a lot of activity on one particular fic I WANNA KNOW WHY!!!!!

Words cannot describe how much I would love this!!!
I want epic x httyd crossover content
I want Odysseus to meet and befriend a dragon
Maybe there can be art of Hiccup and Odysseus meeting and Hiccup introducing Toothless to him
Odysseus in Hiccup's place, Penelope in Astrid's place
I just want my two hyperfixations to crossover and combine 💔💔💔💔

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

If you are so inclined, I think it would also be interesting if you put your answer and age in the tags. My habits have definitely changed--but I would say I give kudos to any fic/chapter I finish; a.k.a if I see the kudos button, its getting kudos, and I am in my early 30s

ik they have "alvin the treacherous" in both books and tv httyd but lets be real they were NOT the same character. imo it goes like this:
alvin the treacherous (tv) = madguts the murderous (savage = gumboil ofc)
dagur the deranged = norbert the nutjob. complete with iconic axe.
and finally:
viggo grimborn = alvin the treacherous (book). he's got the cold calculating vibe, the obsession with hiccup & even the miraculous escape from death!
& that concludes my presentation ty.

Thoughts on the LA HTTYD
A little late on this post, but I've had some time to actually put my thoughts into words now.
I've put a cut in for a couple reasons: The movie is fairly new yet and I know some people that might get this on their dash may have not seen it yet, and it's a really long post otherwise and I'm trying to be nice to those on mobile if they don't want to read it. 😁😁😁
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Gerard Butler was incredible! He is the only person fit to play Stoick in my opinion. His first line and I was nearly in tears; my siblings probably thought I was nuts.
Nico was great as Astrid. I was one of the doubtful ones when the casting originally came out, but I think she really nailed Astrid's character.
The soundtrack. Oh. My. Gods. It kept me in tears throughout the movie and has put me in tears the few times I've listen to it since. Powell did an incredible job of pulling the themes from the original soundtrack and applying them to the new movie in a way that fit it perfectly.
I love that they had the diversity and they explained an in-universe reason for it. Multiple tribes from all over the world coming together on the Isle of Berk to fight the dragons because it's the closest island. I loved that explanation and it expanded the universe more.
The "Trial of Flame" being dragon training. It seems more of a rite of passage now. It always seemed like a small rite of passage for the teens to complete the dragon training, with the extra honor attached to being able to kill the Nightmare, but it feels more real now that it has a name.
The terror scene. Where did it go?!?! The very scene that showed the audience and Hiccup that dragons weren't fireproof on the inside. Without it, the plan of blowing up the Red Death from the inside out at the end kinda comes out of nowhere. Like, where did Hiccup get that idea? Even my younger brother, who hasn't seen the animated movie in several years, understood that the terror scene was vital to the storytelling and making it all make sense.
The designs for the dragons were pretty great...except the gronckle. Like, what did they do to Meatlug? Otherwise they were all pretty solid combos between realism and their animated designs.
Hiccup lost his sass and some of his sarcasm. There were lines that were pulled straight from the animated movie that were meant to be sassy/sarcastic, and they weren't. No hate to Hiccup's actor (I can't remember his name), he did great portraying the character otherwise; but a lot of the way he was delivering lines made it almost seem like Hiccup was either trying to get everyone to feel sorry for him or that he really didn't care what people thought.
I didn’t know the Red Death could get scarier. Her design was pretty freaky/scary in the original animated movie, but goddamn…I felt genuine terror when she burst out of the mountain in the LA.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and am excited for the second one in a couple years. They did a really good job in not making it a full line-for-line, scene-for-scene remake, but also keeping the main story for the most part, unlike some remakes.
