It took Winnie physically biting her lip to resist taking the coffee on the table and promptly pouring it in his lap. “That grating quality is called personality.” She said, the smile on her face bloom, not faltering in the smugness of his attitude, though her eyes were pointed and venomous. “We can’t all have it unfortunately.” It was a rare individual who could mange to rile up anger in Winnie so quickly. Then again, her temper was usually as unpredictable as her schemes. Her eyes narrowed slightly. “You’ve never managed to lose anything? At all? During your entire life? Seriously? I doubt it.”
The appearance of a third party set Winnie even more on edge. She did not care for being out-numbered in any given situation. Even if she was relatively certain the snot-nosed brat and his secretary wouldn’t be a problem to dispose of, it would be a large pain in her ass. “Yeah that’s mine.” She said, anxiety building as he flipped through the pages. Any artist will tell you, never look through someone’s sketchbook without express permission. Winnie held an expectant hand out for it. “May I have it back now please?”

Min-jae had about as much personality as a brown paper bag with the general public. If he wasn’t working he wasn’t going to go out of his way to be charismatic. He had been conditioned to smile when it was required of him then to be seen not heard. Maybe he wasn’t hugged enough as a child. “When it’s important. I figure something out, I wouldn't worry.” Surely something was there, deep, deep down. But one in a million people got to see that.
Her question forced the quirk of an eyebrow, musing over it, “Nothing physical.” ah, what a joy it was to be cryptic, “Not since I was a child at least. I’m meticulous with my things.” Like a functioning sociopath.
“Mm.” He hesitated briefly only to pull a business card out of his breast pocket, tucking it between the cover and first page, then placed the book in her waiting palm. A preface (more like acknowledgment): “You don’t like me.” But Min-jae liked art, and this girl was good. Before continuing, “How big do you work?”

“You…” the mans name wasn’t popping into his head at the moment. The green tea fiasco had taken over his senses. “I know but I don’t have time to go back home to do it the way I like it.” August leaned against the counter. “I’ve been bogged down with work. How’ve you been?”
Tumblr media
That was fine. Min-jae would rather stay anonymous on most days. “Me...” He hummed, tapping his fingers on the tabletop. Pinky, ring, middle, pointer, repeat... “Work keeps me busy. As you know.” He paused, “I saw your double the other day. Does he shoplift often?”

He took a moment to consider this, “I can’t say that I think you know much of anything. Considering I know little about you other than your last name.” He hadn’t known August had a twin. To be fair he and August were colleagues at best. Min-jae didn’t go out of his way to learn about the man’s personal life (nor did he go out of his way to learn about most people’s lives in any capacity that wouldn’t directly benefit him later).
The quest amused him, “Yes.” He took the bills, “I’m assuming you want me to break this unless you’re in too much of a rush to get back to…” He waved an ambiguous hand towards the stranger, “Whatever trouble you were getting into.”
Tumblr media
“Listen, it was the closest one to me. Do you really think I know that you’re the guy who owns this store? Clearly i’m not a mind reader.” He groaned digging out his wallet from his back pocket. “Way to burst my bubble man, are you usually this eagle-eyed?” he asked fishing out 200 bucks from his wallet. “Don’t care how much it costs here’s this.” he said extending the money out to the man in front of him.

Well this guy looked like a prick. Winnie immediately regretted asking him anything. A familiar bubble of anger began to brew in her stomach and she had to bite her tongue to resist going off on his incredibly rude attitude. All she was doing was looking for a book. It wasn’t as if her simple question was about to ruin his afternoon.
The Faust in her was burning.
“Well, aren’t you just a pleasant person.” Winnie crooned. “Do you offer to pay everyone that walks your way or is this a special instance of kindness?” Her eyes continued to search the area for the book. “It costs about ten to twenty dollars depending on which store you go to. However, I am perfectly capable of buying my own. In fact, I believe I could buy a mountain of sketchbooks and not blink. That’s not the point. The point is that I put a lot of work into the sketchbook that I have. I don’t want to lose that. Get it?”
Tumblr media
He didn’t just look like a prick, Winnie, he was one. Min-jae Tsoy: attorney at prick. He could be about as pleasant as a sea urchin, he knew that.
“Well, I definitely wasn’t trying to be.” Min’s eyes flickered into the distance where he clocked his assistant walking their way. “It all depends. Your voice has an especially,” He motioned towards his ear, “Grating quality --” He had only been half-listening when his assistant arrived at the table depositing her items. Min-jae waved her off to get her coffee before they could exchange words right about when this woman, Winnie, was it? Explained that money wasn’t the point which had never been Min-jae’s experience but what did he know? His response was plain, “You should take better care of your things, then.”
It wasn’t until that moment that he paid any attention to the new items placed on the table, hand reaching for an unidentifiable black book his assistant had set down. He opened it, flipped through the pages. Portraits. “Mm.” Not bad. Then, flipped the sketchbook to its front cover. What do you know? Wunnel. “Your cursive penmanship needs serious work, you’re right.” He turned the book to face her, “This doesn’t happen to be what you’re looking for, is it?”

Oh, god there were two of them.
“Mm. I have a question. If I may,” He didn’t wait for an answer, “Why choose the most expensive store on this city block from which to steal?” He picked up the discarded tag, thoughtful, “I really couldn’t care less what you take from other stores. But considering my last name is on the sign...” turning the scrap paper over in his palm, “You can either leave the shirt or pay full price. Whichever.”

adrian always found himself getting into predicaments like the little argument between him and a stranger who wasn’t too fond of his shit-eating grin. it ended with a few punches being exchanged and adrian’s shirt getting ripped. now he was in a store in the men’s clothing section ripping a tag off of a shirt and putting it on with no intention on paying for it. “one, it’s rude to stare. two, if you’re here to give me a lesson on why this is bad…i promise i don’t give a fuck.”

Sat at a table not far from the counter Min-jae jotted notes into a little planner. All Min wanted was a chill day without being bothered but you can’t always get what you want. He recognized the man when he walked in but didn’t go out of his way to greet him until now.
“Brooks.” he returned his gaze to his notes, “There are no demons, just stupid people.” taking a sip from his coffee, “Anyway does it really make a difference? They use teabags here. The quality is already lacking.”

the audacity of these people to even think about putting whipped cream onto his simple green tea. it was nowhere in the realm of okay. there’s a special place in hell for people that fuck up this bad. he set his drink down and looked at the barista with a simple headshake and the words ‘you know what you did’ all he wanted was to have a chill day without any mistakes. however, people were fucking stupid. as he stared off into the distance with a slight scowl on his face, he realized that he probably looked like he was holding in a shit. with a sigh, he looked at the person next to him “excuse me? can you tell me what type of demon would put whipped cream in green tea?”

Min-jae did not often lounge at outdoor cafe seating. There was never time to leisurely people watch. No, people watching was work and his work hardly ever got done in quaint little coffee shops that play jazz and housed college students and sad wanna-be novelists.
But he was waiting on his personal assistant who he (most likely in an effort to get her to go away) let choose their meeting place to look over next week's schedule. Unfortunate.
So. Min sipped his espresso shot and thumbed through the newspaper, eyes slowly closing in something akin to dismay or maybe sheer annoyance at the sudden ‘Hey.’
He barely lowered his paper, parting his lips to respond before the words kept tumbling out of this woman’s mouth. Fuck me. He cut her off at the second ‘please,’ “No. I have not seen your sketchbook. And I will pay you in cash, right now, to go away and buy a new one. What does one cost? $50?”

Guinevere had been retracing her steps all morning. The instant that she’d opened her bag and realized that her sketchbook wasn’t among the rest of her belongings, it became of paramount importance that she find it. Most of her other sketchbooks (and yearbooks and clothes and textbooks) had been lost in the manor. She was not about to lose anything else thanks to her own absent-mindedness. “Hey. Have you seen my sketchbook around here? It’s like this big and black with a lot of stickers on it. There’s a huge donut on the front with sprinkles that says Winnie in cursive but it almost looks like it says wunnel…” She was starting to get desperate. There were only about two more places left on her list to check. If she didn’t find it soon, she may never seen the little book again. “Please, please, please, please tell me you’ve seen it!”

Hi again fam! Biv here brigning you another one of my horrible children: Min-jae Tsoy! Yurist for the Vasile, rolling in cash and let’s not forget a bad attitdue! (Honestly far worse than Dove, please love her and toss your drink at him, I give you permission).
Tumblr media
↳tw: murder reference
(Important bits bolded and italicized. ~)
( lee soo hyuk, 32, male, he/him ) Was that MIN-JAE TSOY ? I heard a rumor they work for the VASILE family, but who knows for sure ? They can be a bit APATHETIC & CALLOUS, but I also heard they can be ASTUTE & TRANSPARENT. You’ll usually find them at VASILE MEDIA in their spare time, when they’re not being a YURIST. You may want to keep an eye on that one ! ( biv, she/her, 23, est, n/a )
His past
Ok, right off the bat: This man was definitely not hugged enough as a child. One of those “brilliant kid but it was never enough” stereotypes.
The son of one of the head honchos of the oil industry in Russia and a prolific fashion and perfume designer with her stamp on Moscow, London, New York City, Paris, Tokyo, L.A. etc... Min always seemed to have his face plastered on the front of some magazine. Forbes, Business Reviews, Vogue... They’re that power family. You probably have heard of them if you keep up with that kind of stuff.
His parents were Korean immigrants first to Volgograd before moving to Moscow where Min and his sister were born after making their fortunes.
It should come as no surprise that they lived lavishly.
He and his father never got along, they barely speak, really. When they do it’s about business. He speaks with his mother more but she isn’t exactly maternal.
He has one younger sister, who is undoubtedly the favorite. He’s gotten over this fact years ago and adores his sister more than anyone else on the planet. If his parents and his sister were hanging off of the side of a cliff he would save his sister without a second thought and feel no remorse.
He and his sister were mainly raised by nannies or shipped off to the best boarding schools money can buy.
There’s really not much to say about his childhood... Other than that he didn’t really have a normal one. If he had one at all.
Min was one of those prodigy children who graduated from secondary school at 16. By 25 he was a Moscow law school graduate. By 30 he could practice Illinoian, U.S. federal, English and, of course, Russian law.
His work
Neither of his parents are involved with crime and are... as “innocent” as any multi-million dollar business owner can be. Min-jae heard of the Vasile when he first went to law school. It was all very hush-hush, spoken in whispers through the woodwork which intrigued him. Basically, he saw an opportunity to be set for life and get out of Moscow and took it.
Really, the application is slightly incorrect as Min doesn’t ever stop being a yurist. He’s always working. Always.
Along with the Vasiles, he is both his parents’ lawyer and maybe does some dark P.R. for some (classified) big-ticket clients. Politicians mainly, some celebrities, but he’s not the one in the spotlight. Part of his job is keeping in the shadows, making sure people don’t know he’s there.
His reputation is spotless, his parents and their family name is spotless, his clients can count on him to not only get them out of but coverup the worst offenses and he keeps it that way.
While Min knows his way around a courtroom (and is damn good at what he does) when the situation arises and it’s necessary for him to... make a more lasting impact his methods aren’t always the most sound.
He’s killed before. To be affiliated with the Vasiles it’s pretty much expected (if not required) of you. And none of that shot in the leg shit either. No. If he’s going to shoot you he’s shooting straight between the eyes to kill you. Usually, this is all dependant on how quick to temper he is on any certain day. And Min-jae is a very patient man. You’d have to really get on his nerves, consistently, and for it to be a situation where Min knows he can get away without any consequence for Min to violently come for you. Again, he does not engage if he doesn’t intend to kill you.
That said he really, really does not like getting his hands dirty. He tends to leave the bloody stuff to the professionals but knows his way around a pistol and carries one on him in case he’s in a pinch.
His father has no intention of stepping down from his position any time soon. In fact, Mr. Tsoy’s Sr. is planning on expanding his business endeavors. All this said, whenever his father is ready to retire Min-jae is expected to take his place. His father would really rather Min-jae be working directly for the family business right now instead of “parading” around in Chicago.
He’s been traveling since he was a child so the constant back and forth between and around the U.S. and Russia, the U.K. and back again is nothing new. He can be extremely difficult to track down in person because of this. You will literally need to be penciled into his schedule to speak with him. More often than not you’ll talk with his personal assistant.
His work comes before all.
Misc. Facts
Min-Jae wears a straight face and professional persona, with a gaze as sharp as his style of dress. Speaking of, as his mother is a fashion designer, he definitely doesn’t own a pair of sweatpants.
Prefers to judge quietly from behind a glass of Chateau Margaux before speaking.
His tolerance level for bull shit is nonexistent.
His dry sense of humor relies almost entirely on irony.
And his encyclopedic knowledge about anyone who’s anyone (and everyone in general) is filed away in the extensive filing system that is his mind.
It’s a little frightening how charming and personable he can be when he needs to be. He’s excellent at telling people what they think they want to hear and luring them into a false sense of security (this is almost always in a courtroom or business setting, mind).
He owns koi fish and keeps a beautifully kept garden, mainly of red geraniums :)
He likes cats but doesn’t have one. Too much work. Growing up they did have birds and two purebred poodles, his parents’ favorite breed.
His father has a healthy gun collection and is a known hunter. It was one of the few activities he and his sister did with their father. So he’s comfortable around a variety of firearms.
Min-jae would make Jesus Christ wait for him outside of his office if he’s in the middle of something.
Connections
Of course, any of the Vasiles!
Any other lawyers in the house?
People in the fashion / oil / any other rich people industries.
Enemies (I am SURE he has many, he’s not exactly the easiest to get along with and is pretty cutthroat in his profession)
He’s pretty damn Aromantic (homoflexible) so romantic relationships are super doubtful but hey we can try
We could also try for friends/relationships where they don’t hate each other lol
His sister!
His personal assistant!
A client of his!
TL;DR Min-jae is a 32-year-old attorney for the Vasile as well as some political and celebrity clientele. His appointment book is always full and when you finally get in touch with him he’s actually the worst to talk to. Kind of dangerous. But also doesn’t like getting his Verrocchio Dress Shoes scuffed.
